Adani Invitational Golf: Saptak Talwar Bags Maiden Title With Thrilling Win

Saptak Talwar of Greater Noida ended a long wait for his maiden title after he outshined his nearest rivals at his home course with a flawless final round of five-under 67 at the Rs 1.5 crore Adani Invitational Golf Championship 2025 played at the Jaypee Greens Golf & Spa Resort in Greater Noida. The 26-year-old Saptak's (67-72-69-67) superb last round effort lifted him two spots from his overnight third position. Talwar, who had previously posted two runner-up finishes on the PGTI since turning pro in 2021, ended the week with a winning total of 13-under 275 and a one-stroke victory margin.

"I remember the last PGTI tournament here in 2013, I was giving my exams and I came here to watch the final round and those memories are still fresh in my mind. To have my first win at Jaypee Greens, in the Adani Invitational feels fantastic," Talwar told IANS.

Talwar, who studied at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, USA, prior to turning professional, picked up the winning cheque worth INR 22,50,000 that propelled him from seventh to fourth position in the PGTI Order of Merit.

Overnight joint leaders Arjun Prasad (68-69-69-70) of Delhi and Chandigarh's Yuvraj Sandhu (70-67-69-71) finished second and third at 12-under 276 and 11-under 277 respectively.

Saptak Talwar, who was two off the lead at the start of round four, enjoyed a hot start on Friday as he capitalized with birdies on the first two par-5s, the second and fourth holes. Saptak then added two more birdies on the fifth and 10th using his wedges to great effect. He narrowly missed a five-feet eagle putt on the par-5 12th where he picked up his fifth birdie of the day.

Talwar, who had made three three-putts for bogeys earlier in the week, then saw it home with pars on the last six holes. He made a crucial par save from eight feet on the 16th that helped keep his card bogey-free and gave him the momentum towards the end.

Arjun, also searching for his first title, produced five birdies and three bogeys during his fourth round of 70. Arjun had the opportunity to take the match into a playoff before he bogeyed the final hole.

"The tournament was fantastic, the way it was organized was amazing. Having Adani as one our sponsors for the event is fantastic. As far as my game goes, I think I played pretty well and just fell short towards the end but I am very happy with the way I have been playing throughout this season," Arjun told IANS.

Yuvraj Sandhu, a two-time winner on the PGTI this season, sank five birdies on the last day but an early double-bogey and two bogeys on the back-nine put him out of contention as he signed for a 71.

There was a hole-in-one by Sri Lankan N Thangaraja on the 14th during his fourth round of 71. He secured tied 17th place at two-under 286.

Nineteen-year-old Sukhman Singh of Greater Noida, the lone amateur to make the cut, won the prize for the best performance by an amateur. Sukhman totaled six-over 294 for the week to finish tied 46th.

Adani Enterprises Director Pranav Adani, present at the event, lauded the proceedings and congratulated the winners after the conclusion of the tournament.

"I'm sure all the winners and players had a good game today. It is truly our privilege, as the Adani Group, to be associated with and have a partnership with PGTI for the Adani Invitational Championship Cup. Sport has always been close to our hearts as a group. I believe that a growing India - a growing country - needs sportsmen who can make the nation proud," said Adani during the prize ceremony.

SRH Star Bowls With Left, Right Arm In Same Over vs KKR. Internet Confused

Kamindu Mendis is a rarity in cricket. The Sri Lankan can bowl with both arms and his talent was on display at the IPL 2025 in the match between SunRisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday. He only bowled one over in the match and picked the wicket of KKR half-centurion Angkrish Raghuvanshi. Though it was the ambidextrous bowler's debut match in IPL, Mendis has been a consistent performer for Sri Lanka. He has played 12 Tests, 19 ODIs and 23 T20Is.

The IPL in its official x handle wrote: "Confused?"

Defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) posted a competitive total against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 15 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Eden Gardens, thanks to a remarkable late-innings acceleration spearheaded by Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh.

KKR finished their innings at 200/6 in 20 overs, recovering from early setbacks with a dynamic middle-order partnership.

The KKR opening partnership, which had failed to find momentum in previous games, endured another underwhelming outing. Sunil Narine and Quinton de Kock could not provide the explosive start the team desired.

After a quiet first over, de Kock miscued a pull shot off Pat Cummins and was caught in the deep for just one (6 balls). Narine followed soon after, edging an over-pitched delivery from Mohammed Shami to the keeper for seven (7 balls). KKR were left struggling at 17/2 in three overs, bringing captain Ajinkya Rahane and young Angkrish Raghuvanshi to the crease.

With KKR in trouble, Rahane and Raghuvanshi stabilized the innings with calculated aggression. The duo took advantage of short deliveries, keeping the scoreboard ticking with well-timed boundaries and excellent running between the wickets. Rahane hit three sixes and played fluently before falling for 38 (27 balls) while attempting a reverse sweep against Zeeshan Ansari.

Raghuvanshi, displaying maturity beyond his years, brought up his second IPL fifty off just 30 balls. However, his impressive innings of 50 (32 balls, five fours, two sixes) came to an end when he sliced Kamindu Mendis' off-spin to deep backward point. At 109/4 in 13.2 overs, KKR had lost both set batters, shifting the responsibility to their middle-order.

With the innings at a critical juncture, Venkatesh Iyer (60 off 29 balls) and Rinku Singh (unbeaten 32 off 17) took charge. Initially cautious, the duo unleashed a flurry of attacking strokes in the death overs. Venkatesh found his rhythm with powerful shots off Simarjeet and Shami, while Rinku ignited KKR's charge with three consecutive fours off Harshal Patel in the 17th over.

The 19th over bowled by Cummins proved to be the turning point, as Rinku smashed 4,6,4,4,2,1, reaching his fifty in just 25 balls. The final partnership yielded 91 off just 41 balls, at a stunning run rate of 11.25.

KKR's late surge saw them add 91 runs in the last seven overs, propelling their total to 200 in 20 overs. The innings was defined by Venkatesh Iyer's anchoring role and Rinku Singh's fearless hitting, putting the pressure back on SRH's bowling attack.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Breaks Silence On Quitting Mumbai In Domestic Cricket

Yashasvi Jaiswal has taken a sudden decision that sent shockwaves in domestic cricket around the country. Jaiswal wrote to the Mumbai Cricket Association on Tuesday, expressing his wish to leave Mumbai for Goa, and the governing body swiftly accepted his request. Jaiswal's shock move will see the left-handed 23-year-old play for Goa from the 2025-26 season where he could be appointed captain, though it remains to be seen how much time he would be able to give to the state side given the packed international calendar.

Now, Yashasvi Jaiswal has opened up on his decision. "It was a very tough decision for me. Whatever I am today is because of Mumbai. The city has made me who I am, and all my life, I will be indebted to the MCA," Jaiswal told The Indian Express.

"Goa has thrown me a new opportunity and it has offered me a leadership role. My first goal will be to do well for India and whenever I'm not on national duty, I will be playing for Goa and try to make them go deep into the tournament. This was an (important) opportunity which came my way and I just took it."

Jaiswal last played for Mumbai against Jammu and Kashmir in their Ranji Trophy Group A league round match from January 23-25 following the strict implementation of the BCCI directives that all India players should play domestic cricket if not on national duty.

"Yes, it is surprising. He must have thought of something to make such a move. He has requested us to relieve him and we have accepted his request,” a senior MCA official told PTI on Wednesday.

“He wants to play for us and we welcome him. He will be playing for us from the next season,” Goa Cricket Association's secretary Shamba Desai told PTI talking about Jaiswal's move.

Jaiswal could well captain Goa when he is not on national duty.

"Yes, that can happen,” he replied when asked if Jaiswal could be a captaincy candidate for the state.

"He plays for the Indian cricket team so he can be the captain and we will work in the direction to appoint him. Regarding his availability (for the domestic competitions), we are yet to speak,” he added.

Jaiswal is the third cricketer from Mumbai in recent times to have moved to Goa after Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad.

Lad and Tendulkar had moved to Goa ahead of the 2022-23 season.

The right-handed batter Lad served his cooling-off period before making a successful return to Mumbai last season in the Ranji Trophy.

Jaiswal has been India's first-choice opener since making his Test debut against the West Indies in July 2023 and since then he has played 19 games, cementing himself with stellar performances on the biggest stage.

He averages more than 52 in Tests including four hundreds and 10 fifties.

LSG Spinner Gives Fiery Send-Off After Dismissal, Faces Gavaskar's Criticism

Lucknow Super Giants spinner Digvesh Rathi gave a fiery send-off to Punjab Kings opener Priyansh Arya during their IPL 2025 encounter on Tuesday. During the third over of the PBKS innings, Priyansh ended up miscuing a shot off Digvesh's bowling and the ball went high up in the air. Shardul Thakur moved across from mid-on and completed an easy catch to give LSG their first breakthrough. Rathi immediately ran towards the batter and made a gesture that signified that his name was added to his notebook of dismissals. The spinner was instantly called by the on-field umpire who had a brief chat with him.

The entire incident left legendary Indian cricket team captain Sunil Gavaskar unhappy as he criticised Digvesh's antics. Gavaskar was not in favour of such a send-off and said that batters do not make such gestures every time they hit a boundary against the bowlers.

Punjab Kings enjoyed the fruits of a fantastic bowling effort in the Powerplay as Lucknow Super Giants posted a par-score of 171 for 7 on a tricky Ekana Stadium surface in an IPL match on Monday.

On a track that seemed two-paced with variable bounce, Punjab Kings bowlers led by the ever-dependable Arshdeep Singh knocked off the top order within first six overs and contributions from in-form Nicholas Pooran (44 off 30) and Ayush Badoni (41 off 33 balls) wasn't enough to put a challenging score on board.

Punjab's bowling performance on Monday was the perfect definition of doing it in unison as spinners Glenn Maxwell (1/22 in 3 overs) and Yuzvendra Chahal (1/36 in 4 overs) complemented the pacers Lockie Ferguson (1/26 in 3 overs), Arshdeep (3/43 in 4 overs) and Marco Jansen (1/28 in 4 overs).

Credit should also be given to skipper Shreyas Iyer, whose intelligent field placements also ensured that LSG were never in control of the situation.

On a track, where certain deliveries were gripping and odd ball bounced a tad extra, only Pooran looked comfortable against both pacers and spinners.
