"Five Fingers, One Fist": Hardik's Poetic Words After Being Retained By MI

After being retained by five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2025 season, skipper Hardik Pandya expressed his gratitude by saying everything he's achieved in life so far has been made possible due to being a part of the franchise. On IPL 2025 retention day, MI said they have chosen to retain their five core players in Jasprit Bumrah (INR 18 crore), Hardik (INR 16.35 crore), Suryakumar Yadav (INR 16.35 crore), Rohit Sharma (INR 16.30 crore) and Tilak Varma (INR 8 crore).

"I think I have received a lot of love back, means the world to me. My journey started here and you know everything what I have achieved in my life has been part of Mumbai Indians. We are five fingers but one fist, that's how I look at it," said Pandya in a statement issued by the franchise.

India's fast-bowling spearhead Bumrah leading the retentions order doesn't come as a surprise, as IANS understands Rohit backed this approach and infact volunteered to come in at fourth in the order because he wished for the spotlight to shine on other players in the franchise.

"I'm thrilled to be part of Mumbai Indians again. I played so much cricket here. This is the place where I have started my cricket career. So, this city is very, very special and I am happy to be here," said Rohit.

The right-handed opener also backed MI's decision to retain their core of five capped India players. "You know the players that are representing the national team at the highest level should get the preference. That's what I believe in and I'm quite happy with it."

Through the retentions, MI have spent INR 75 crore and have an available salary cap of INR 45 crore to build the rest of their team in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

PHF Bans Five Formers Players For Trying To Make Separate Federation

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) on Wednesday imposed a life ban on five former Olympians for trying to form a parallel body. PHF President Tariq Bugti said that former Olympian and internationals Nasir Ali, Khalid Bashir, Saleem Nazim, Abbas Ali and Haider Ali had been banned for life. "The PHF found them guilty of trying to run a parallel federation, stealing PHF records and using funds from a PHF account without approval," Bugti said. Since last year after Brigadier (retd) Sajjad Khokar was forced to resign as PHF chief after being in power for more than two terms, a power-struggle is going on between two groups to take control of the PHF.

One group was headed by Bugti, an influential politician from Balochistan and the other by Sehla Reza, an influential politician from Karachi.

Haider Ali who was secretary general with Khokar joined the PHF headed by Shehla Reza as secretary.

The Pakistan Sports Board and FIH later said they would recognise the PHF headed by Bugti and former Olympian, Rana Mujahid after Shehla Reza on the instructions of her party bigwigs, stepped away from her claim to be President and the conflict.

"These group of people tried to sabotage the PHF affairs and stole important documents and also illegally blocked a bank account which collected rents from our shops, offices and warehouses at the Hockey Club of Pakistan in Karachi," Bugti said.

He said as a result the PHF had imposed a life ban on all the former players who could no longer associate with the sport in any capacity.

Of the five banned Khalid Bashir and Nasir Ali were celebrated defenders who won Olympic medals while Saleem Nazim was also a high profile mid-fielder.

CSK Name All Retentions 2 Days Before Deadline? Post Sets Internet Ablaze

Only two days remain for the IPL 2024 retention deadline, and rumours are flying thick and strong. One team which will be under focus is five-time champions Chennai Super Kings. There has been a lot of deliberations on who will be their No. 1 pick. The most intriguing part of their retention is whether MS Dhoni will be playing the next IPL or not. While he can be retained as an uncapped player, since he retired from international cricket over five years ago, some have said that he should be retained as a capped players.

In the midst of this, a post by CSK on X on Tuesday evening created flutter. The caption of the post read: "The Ones You Seek is Seeking You!" Along with the post, there were several emojis of helicopter, sword, star, rocket etc. It went viral within minutes. The social media users predicted that that these were actually hints on the retained.

Several users predicted that the retained players would be Ravindra Jadeja, Ritiraj Gaikwad, Matheesha Pathiarana, MS Dhoni, Rachin Ravindra.

One user, however, said that it was actually an old post re-published yet again.

The legendary MS Dhoni all but confirmed his intention to continue playing cricket in the Indian Premier League (IPL), as he dropped a subtle hint over his participation in the T20 league. When Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were approached for a reaction, the franchise's CEO Kasi Viswanathan also said that they are happy to see Dhoni being ready for another season of the IPL. What follows next is a call from Dhoni to the franchise owner N Srinivasan to finalise the retention list ahead of the IPL 2025 season.

However, what has also been reported that skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad isn't the No. 1 retention choice for CSK, but rather all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who quit T20 internationals after India's T20 World Cup triumph this year.

"When he is ready, what else (do) we want. We are happy," franchise CEO Kasi Viswanathan told Cricbuzz on Saturday.

During an event, Dhoni had said that he wants to enjoy the last few years of cricket that he has left in him.

"I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I am able to play," Dhoni was quoted as saying. "When you play cricket like a professional sport, it becomes difficult to enjoy it just like a game. That's what I want to do. It's not easy.

"The emotions keep coming, the commitments are there. I want to enjoy the game for the next few years. I have to keep myself fit for nine months, so that I can play two and a half months of IPL. You need to plan it out, but at the same time chill a bit."

After Kirsten, PCB Selector To Become Pak White-Ball Coach? Report Says...

Current senior selector Aaqib Javed and former spinner Saqlain Mushtaq are in fray to replace Gary Kirsten as Pakistan's new white ball coach after the former Proteas batter stepped down due to his differences with country's cricket board. The PCB, on Monday, officially confirmed that Kirsten had resigned and as an interim arrangement it has asked the red ball coach, Jason Gillespie to manage the team for the white ball series in Australia from November 4. But Gillespie has intimated that he would look at it as a one-off arrangement.

"The problem is both Kirsten and Gillespie were not happy with their sudden demotion in powers with the selectors given powers to call all the shots," one source said.

He said since Gillespie was in the middle of the England series he reluctantly accepted the changes but has publicly made it clear he is no happy at not being involved in the selection process.

"The situation now is that the PCB has to appoint a new white ball coach given the number of white ball commitments of the national team coming up and leading up to the Champions Trophy early next year," the source said.

"One option is to let assistant coach Azhar Mahmood continue as interim head coach but Aaqib or Saqlain could also land the job." Saqlain has remained head coach of the Pakistan team before but was replaced by Mickey Arthur early last year when Najam Sethi was in power in the board.

The source did say they are some other candidates under consideration and the board chairman, Mohsin Naqvi would soon have talks with shortlisted candidates.

The PCB has made no official comment on why Kirsten resigned nor has the former South African player said anything but board insiders say the dispute arose over several issues between Kirsten and the PCB.

"Look we had high hopes from Kirsten when we entered into a two-year contract with him. The idea was he could help the PCB to revolutionize the white ball team," one source aware of the happenings said.

He said the PCB got the feeling that Kirsten never seemed fully committed to his job.

"He did not have a single camp in Pakistan for any of the white ball teams. He was not present at the white ball camps of the Shaheens throughout the summer. And it all culminated with him missing the majority of the Champions Cup." Another complaint against Kirsten is that although his contract stated clearly he would just take 30 days vacation in a year, he didn't even spend 30 days in Pakistan after joining.

The PCB was also put off with Kirsten's insistence on having more foreign coaches on his team and the dispute between them blew up once the board decided to strip the coaches of selection powers.

The PCB had also sidelined and pushed foreign coaches, Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn etc to resign after last year's WC.

India "Made Things Harder": Kumble On India's WTC Final Qualification

Former cricketer Anil Kumble reacted to India's disappointing defeat to New Zealand in the second Test of the series in Pune, stating that India's batting has let the hosts down. Tom Latham's New Zealand side made history by defeating Rohit Sharma's team by 113 runs at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Saturday, securing their first-ever series win in India. This loss marks India's first home Test series defeat since 2012, ending an 18-series unbeaten streak--the longest home winning sequence for any team.

New Zealand now leads the three-match series 2-0, with the final game set for November 1 at Mumbai's iconic Wankhede Stadium.

Speaking to Jio Cinema, Kumble highlighted the significance of each Test match for India's journey to the World Test Championship (WTC) final.

"I think that's the beauty of the WTC. Although the series is over for India, each Test match remains crucial. They've made things harder for themselves. At the start of the series, we talked about needing five wins to comfortably reach the championship final. But now, with four wins required from the next six matches, it's even tougher, especially with one game against this confident New Zealand side at Wankhede and five more in Australia," Kumble said.

He praised India's bowling attack and noted that they still top the WTC points table due to the bowlers' ability to claim 20 wickets in the series. However, he emphasised the need for India's batters to start scoring.

"India have done exceptionally well in their last two series in Australia, but qualifying now is even more challenging. They need to get their act together. The batting has been disappointing, and though the bowling will continue to face challenges, India are at the top because their bowlers have consistently taken those 20 wickets. The batting needs to step up and deliver runs," he added.

In the match, New Zealand won the toss and chose to bat. Half-centuries from Devon Conway (76 off 141 balls, with 11 fours) and Rachin Ravindra (65 off 105 balls, with five fours and a six) placed New Zealand in a commanding position at 197/3, with Ravichandran Ashwin (3/41) being the only bowler to make an early impact. After Conway's dismissal, Washington Sundar (7/59) exploited the momentum, cleaning up the tail to bowl New Zealand out for 259.

India faced the task of surpassing this modest total to secure a lead. However, after Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a duck, youngsters Shubman Gill (30 off 72 balls, with two fours and a six) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (30 off 60 balls, with four boundaries) only managed a 49-run partnership. Gill's dismissal allowed Mitchell Santner to dominate the Indian lineup, taking 7/53, with Glenn Phillips (2/26) assisting, to bowl India out for just 156, Ravindra Jadeja top-scoring with 38 off 46 balls (three fours, two sixes).

In their second innings, New Zealand capitalised on their 103-run lead. An impressive 86 from skipper Tom Latham (133 balls, 10 fours), supported by contributions from Phillips (48 off 82 balls, four boundaries, two sixes) and Tom Blundell (41 off 83 balls, three fours), set India a daunting target of 359 runs after being bowled out for 255 in the first session of day three.

Sundar (4/56) led the Indian bowling attack, while Jadeja (3/72) and Ashwin (2/97) took charge of the lower-middle order and tail.

Chasing 359, India began strongly with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who shared a 62-run partnership with Shubman Gill (23 off 31 balls, four boundaries). However, following Jaiswal's dismissal for 77 off 65 balls (nine fours, three sixes), India struggled against the Kiwi spinners and were bowled out for 245, resulting in a 113-run defeat. This series loss marks India's first home series defeat in 12 years.

Santner, with a remarkable 13 wickets in the match (6/104 in the second innings), emerged as the standout performer, while Phillips and Ajaz Patel contributed to finish the Test two days early.

"After 2 Tough Months, It Feels...": India Stand-In Captain Pours Heart Out

Stand-in captain Smriti Mandhana hailed India's bowling and fielding efforts as they bounced back from a "tough" phase to secure a win against New Zealand in the first ODI of the three-match series. India's Women's T20 World Cup campaign earlier this month had ended in a disaster as they failed to reach the semifinals following a 58-run defeat to Sophie Devine's New Zealand, who went on to win the tournament.

However, this time, Devine's side fell short of chasing a modest 228, losing to India by 59 runs in the ODI series opener.

"It's been a tough 1.5 to 2 months, so it feels good to start with a win. If you don't believe in cricket, you won't succeed," said Mandhana, who captained in place of Harmanpreet Kaur, during the post-match presentation.

Harmanpreet was rested for this game because of an unspecified niggle.

Indian batters also could not convert their starts and kept losing wickets at regular intervals to be bowled out for an under-par 227 in 44.3 overs.

"We had a talk that we were under-par but if we field well, we could add 20-30 runs. Saima set the tone for us with Suzie's wicket," Smriti said of the debutant seamer who bagged 2 for 26.

"She (Saima) has been around with us (for the past couple of months). She has been brilliant throughout and we have seen her work really hard. Really happy for her and hope this is just the start for her," she added.

Saima said: "I have been very patient, the team is amazing. That is the secret. It was a flat wicket honestly. It was a batter's paradise. But we did really well as a bowling group and luckily, it (the result) came into our favour." T20 World Cup-winning NZ captain Devine was run out for two in a bizarre fashion after stepping down the track and tapping the ball back to the bowler.

Bowler Deepti Sharma quickly threw it to wicketkeeper Yastika Bhatia, who removed the bails with Devine's foot just outside the crease as the TV umpire confirmed the dismissal, giving India a key breakthrough and leaving New Zealand at 46/3.

"I thought she was outside her crease, so I felt throwing it (to Yastika) was a good option," said player-of-the-match Deepti who hit a 51-ball 41 and returned with 1/35 from nine overs.

PT Usha Breaks Silence On CWG Dropping Badminton, Hockey For 2026

Indian Olympic Association president PT Usha feels the axing of medal-yielding sports such as wrestling, hockey and badminton from the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games programme is "disappointing" for the country but the approach to reduce cost would ensure that the event continues to find hosts in future. The 23rd edition of the Games is scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 2, marking the Scottish capital's return as host after 12 years. Most of the National Sports Federations have been critical of Glasgow's decision to exclude hockey, badminton, wrestling, cricket, shooting, TT, and squash from the roster and have even questioned the relevance of the Games after this move.

But Usha said the reasons can't be completely ignored.

"The reduction in the sports programme for the 2026 Commonwealth Games is disappointing, but I am sure that you will understand that 2026 games serve as a bridge to the future of the CWG," Usha read out a written statement to PTI Videos on Wednesday.

Glasgow stepped in to save the Games after original host Victoria (Australia) backed out citing ballooning cost. It has less than two years to complete preparations and the organisers said they have tried to ensure that financial and operational risks are reduced by their conservative approach.

While India would lose out on a lot of medals, Usha backed the idea of reduced cost and lower environmental impact due to a pruned schedule of 10 events to be conducted at four venues within an eight-mile radius.

"The approach aims to reduce costs, lower environmental impact, and increase social benefits, such progressive and sustainable model is very exciting as it will enable more countries to host the Games in future," she explained.

"Given the limited time-frame and financial constraints, focus of CGF has been to deliver a high-quality Games in a financially responsible way, with emphasis on minimising risks and prioritising athletes and sports," said one of India's greatest athlete.

Usha said CWG grew from being a 10-sport event up until 1998 and can go back to expanding itself in future once a stable model of hosting the event is figured going forward.

"Historically, CWG featured around 10 sports and since 1998, programme has expanded to include 15 to 20 sports, and flexibility in future will be crucial for hosts," she added.

"I have had discussion with CGF president and he has assured me that exclusion of certain sports from the 2026 programme doesn't set a precedent for future games, and all CWG sports remain important to CGF, with opportunity to return in future editions," she said.

The sports programme will include Athletics and Para Athletics (Track & Field), Swimming and Para Swimming, Artistic Gymnastics, Track Cycling and Para Track Cycling, Netball, Weightlifting and Para Powerlifting, Boxing, Judo, Bowls and Para Bowls, and 3x3 Basketball and 3x3 Wheelchair Basketball.

Sultan Of Johor Cup: Unbeaten India Outclass Hosts Malaysia 4-2

Three-time champions India defeated hosts Malaysia 4-2 to continue their unbeaten run at the Sultan of Johor Cup junior men's hockey tournament Johor Bahru, Malaysia on Tuesday. After this win, India are on top spot in the standings with nine points while New Zealand are placed second with five points and Australia third with four points. Sharda Nand Tiwari (11th minute), Arshdeep Singh (13th), Talem Priyobarta (39th) and Rohit (40th) scored for India while Muhammad Danish Aiman (8th) and Harris Osman (9th) found the net for Malaysia.

It was, in fact, Malaysia who made a roaring start by putting India on the backfoot early on.

A quick-fire goal was set up by the home team captain Muhammad Addy Jazmi Jamlus, who assisted Muhammad Danish Aiman to score a fine field goal in the eighth minute.

Malaysia doubled their lead a minute later when Osman Harris scored from a penalty corner.

But the Indian forwards shook off the early nerves and created scoring opportunities.

In-form drag-flicker Sharda Nand helped India pull one goal back in the 11th minute from a penalty corner.

India restored parity in the 13th minute when Arshdeep, assisted by Manmeet Singh, scored a fine field goal.

While the second quarter remained goal-less, there was plenty of action in the third quarter with India returning from the half-time break with renewed vigour. For the first time in the match, India took 3-2 lead in the 39th minute when Priyobarta took a successful shot on goal from the edge of the circle.

Rohit then extended India's lead with a fine penalty corner strike.

The fourth quarter began with Malaysia earning a penalty corner, but were off the mark.

In the following minutes, a flurry of penalty corners came in both India and Malaysia's way but neither could come up with successful conversions.

However, India did well to hold on to the 4-2 lead till the final hooter.

New Zealand Beat South Africa In Final To Win Maiden Women's T20 World Cup

New Zealand produced a clinical performance in a high-stakes final to beat South Africa by 32 runs and win their maiden Women's T20 World Cup title in Dubai on Sunday. It turned out to be a historic Sunday for New Zealand cricket as the White Ferns got their hands on the ICC trophy hours after the men recorded their first Test win in India after 36 years. South Africa, playing their second successive final, sent New Zealand in to bat and the Sophie Devine-led side thrived under pressure to post an above par 158 for five at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Amelia Kerr collected 43 off 38 balls while Brooke Halliday made an impactful 38 off 28 balls to push New Zealand beyond 150 in what has been a low scoring tournament. South Africa skipper Laura Wolvaardt (33 off 27) took her team to 47 for no loss in the powerplay before New Zealand bowlers were able to stifle the opposition.

South Africa could not keep with the scoring rate and ended with 126 for nine in 20 overs. Kerr starred with her leg-spin as well, ending with three wickets for 24 runs in four overs.

It was a remarkable change of fortunes for New Zealand, who had come into the tournament with the baggage of 10 losses in a row. They were the best bowling unit in the competition by a fair distance and on Sunday, improved their batting by a few notches. There was no coming back from South Africa after they lost their gutsy leader Wolvaardt in the 10th over. Kerr got the prized wicket as Wolvaardt, in her attempt to accelerate the scoring rate, found Suzie Bates at cover.

When the hero of the semifinal, Anneke Bosch, perished five balls later, the writing was on the wall. South Africa's untested middle-order could not respond to the pressure put by the New Zealand bowlers.

Jordan Cox Set For England Test Debut During New Zealand Tour

Jordan Cox is poised to make his Test debut as England's wicketkeeper during their upcoming tour of New Zealand. This opportunity arises as Jamie Smith is set to miss part of the series due to paternity leave. Cox, who will turn 24 on Monday as per ESPNcricinfo, has been England's reserve batter for the last five Tests and now has the chance to make his mark in December. Smith and his partner are expecting their first child in mid-December, coinciding with either the second or third Test against New Zealand.

"Being at the birth of my son is not something I want to miss," he told the Daily Mail recently, as per quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

"It will be a memory that I cherish more than any in cricket anyway, so if I lost my place because of it, so be it," he added.

Cox made his international debut in England's T20I series against Australia last month and will soon join the squads for their upcoming white-ball tour to the Caribbean. Although he was unable to keep wicket for Essex this summer due to a severe finger injury sustained in the Hundred last year, he has been refining his wicketkeeping skills with Brendon McCullum in Pakistan.

"It's life, right?" McCullum, who is the head coach of the England Cricket team said of Smith's absence.

"People have kids and we wish them all the best, to be there and support their partners. At this stage, it looks like Jamie will probably play the first [Test in New Zealand] and may miss the next two. We're not totally sure - it's up to Mother Nature a little - but we know we've got Jordan Cox in the squad here," McCullum said, as per quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

England is confident in Cox's abilities, despite his limited recent experience behind the stumps, a belief reinforced by Smith's own selection earlier this summer while being second-choice at Surrey. McCullum, drawing from his own experience, considers New Zealand to be a comfortable place for wicketkeeping and is eager to evaluate Cox's performance at the Test level. McCullum describes Cox's glovework as "solid."

Cox, known for his self-assured nature, admitted that he would get "bored" after reaching 40 runs while playing for a struggling Kent side last year. Seeking a change to reignite his passion for four-day cricket, he moved to Essex, where he scored four centuries and averaged 65.57 in his first County Championship season.

He took over the No. 4 spot at Essex, vacated by Dan Lawrence's move to Surrey. Lawrence's own recent experiences underscore the challenges of being England's spare batter. After performing well in the Caribbean in March 2022, Lawrence waited over two years for another opportunity in the middle order, only to be placed as an opener with predictable results. Consequently, Cox has now moved ahead of Lawrence in the selection order.

Unless England loses a batter to injury or illness before Thursday's third Test in Rawalpindi, Cox will be added to the white-ball squads and travel to the Caribbean, likely alongside Rehan Ahmed. Marcus Trescothick, serving as interim white-ball coach for the three ODIs and five T20Is against the West Indies, has already departed Pakistan in preparation for that tour.

Cox is expected to make his ODI debut during the Caribbean series, providing him with an opportunity to stake a late claim for a spot in England's squad for next year's Champions Trophy. However, it is the prospect of a Test debut later this year that could truly satisfy his ambitions and validate the extensive travel he will undertake in the first half of the English winter.

"He's annoyingly good at everything he does - particularly on the golf course," McCullum said.

"He's one of those guys that you look at and say he's got a high ceiling in terms of talent, particularly with bat in hand. There's a fair chance that he'll get the opportunity in New Zealand, if Jamie does return home, to bat down the order and take the gloves," he noted.

New Zealand Edge West Indies To Reach Women's T20 World Cup Final

New Zealand saw off the danger of Deandra Dottin to book their place in the Women's T20 World Cup final with a nail-biting eight-run win over West Indies in Sharjah on Friday. After Dottin's 4-22 restricted the White Ferns to 128-9, the all-rounder clubbed a superb 33 from 22 balls with three sixes as West Indies finished just short on 120-8. New Zealand will face South Africa, who knocked out defending champions Australia on Thursday, in Sunday's final at Dubai. New Zealand, who lost in the finals at the first two tournaments in 2009 and 2010, made a solid start as Suzie Bates (26) and Georgia Plimmer (33) added 48 for the first wicket. But the innings faltered as Dottin stepped in to remove Amelia Kerr, Brooke Halliday, who made a rapid 18, Maddy Green and Rosemary Mair.

Some late slugging from Isabella Gaze with 20 from 14 balls gave the Kiwi bowlers a target to defend.

West Indies struggled at the top of their innings against some accurate bowling and the game looked up when captain Hayley Matthews was dismissed for 15.

Dottin, however, clubbed three sixes as she hammered 33 from 22 balls to bring West Indies back into the game.

When she fell, Afy Fletcher (17 not out) and Zaida James (14) took up the fight with New Zealand only sealing victory in the last over of the match.

New Zealand off-spinner Eden Carson was named Player of the Match for her return of 3-29 from four overs.

On Pakistan's Next White-Ball Captain, Report Reveals "Experienced" Option

Seasoned wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has emerged as a front runner to become Pakistan team's captain in the white-ball formats when the PCB announces the touring squad for series in Australia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. The Pakistani selectors have held meetings with the PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and also consulted white-ball head coach, Gary Kirsten in the last two days.

"The third Test against England finishes on 28th October and the squad has to leave for Australia the next day so the selectors would be announcing the white ball squad by Sunday," a reliable source in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said.

"Rizwan because of his seniority, his reliability as a player and because of his experience of leading teams well in domestic cricket and PSL is a front runner to become white ball captain,” the source said.

Babar Azam had quit as Pakistan captain early this month, saying he wants to focus on his batting.

Pakistan are due to play nine ODIs and as many T20 internationals in Australia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Before returning home, they are also scheduled to play two Tests against South African.

The source said since the Board has now given the selectors the power to pick the captain. Aaqib, Azhar Ali and Aleem Dar have apparently already held talks with Rizwan and sought his willingness to take over this responsibility.

The source said the selectors are likely to include Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah in the white ball squad after being rested and sidelined for the last two Tests against England.

Pakistan wrapped up a 152 runs win over England in Multan to level the three-match series.

"The selectors are also keen to have some new young players in the squad so there is every likelihood they might announce different squads for the three tours to give exposure to more players and also rest to seniors," the source confirmed.

"Not Going Home": Shakib Unlikely To Travel To Bangladesh For His Final Test

Bangladesh's premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is unlikely to travel to his native country for his final Test match, against South Africa in Mirpur, Dhaka from October 21-25, due to protests against him in the city. Shakib was included in the Bangladesh squad for the first Test against the Proteas, which was going to be his final appearance in the format. "I am not sure where I am going next, but it is almost sure that I am not going home," Shakib told ESPNcricinfo.

Shakib had been apprehensive about returning to Bangladesh because of concerns about his family's safety.

Besides being a star cricketer, Shakib is an ex-lawmaker in the government ousted by a revolution in August.

The 37-year-old announced his retirement from international cricket last month but said that he wanted to play one last Test series at home, following which he was included in the squad for the two Tests against South Africa.

He was one of 147 people named in an FIR for an alleged murder during the unrest.

While announcing the squad, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selector Hannan Sarkar on Wednesday said that they selected Shakib after getting a "green signal" from the authorities.

"We haven't received any further instructions from the BCB or the cricket operations committee. It is a paused status at the moment. He is in transit in Dubai," Ashraf said.

Students started protesting his imminent arrival from Wednesday evening.

"Most Talented Cricketer": Kohli's Big Admission. Not From India, Australia

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday announced South African legend AB de Villiers, also known as 'Mr 360', England batting great Alastair Cook, and Indian bowling legend Neetu David as the newest members of the ICC Hall of Fame. Following the ICC Hall of Fame announcement, Virat Kohli wrote a beautiful letter to Ab de Villiers after his inclusion. "To AB, It is an honour to be selected to write these words as you enter the ICC Hall of Fame. You are thoroughly deserving of your place - after all, the Hall of Fame is a representation of your impact on the game, and yours has been truly unique.

"People have always spoken about your ability, and rightly so. You are the most talented cricketer I have played with, the absolute number one.

"But what truly stood out to me was your belief in that ability. You had a crazy amount of belief that you could execute whatever you wanted to on a cricket field, and you normally did. That is why you ended up being so special.

"There is no better example in my mind than when we were batting together for RCB in Kolkata in 2016.

"We were chasing 184 against an attack including Sunil Narine, Morne Morkel, Andre Russell and Shakib Al Hasan. You came in to join me with around 70 on the board and Narine was bowling.

"You played and missed a couple and told me during a timeout that you weren't picking him too well. I felt I was, so I remember telling you to give me the strike and I would try and hit boundaries off him.

"In the first over Narine bowled after the timeout, I was ready at the non-striker's end thinking you were definitely giving me a single. So, imagine my surprise when you back away to the leg side, Sunil follows you and you slog sweep him over square leg for a 94-metre six!

"I don't know what happened in the timeout to give you the belief you could do that. I just remember saying to you, "you're a freak!"

"If I have a lack of belief against someone, I'd just try and get off strike - but you hit him for a 94-metre six without picking the ball. That sums you up. You could just do things our minds were not ready to process, and then everyone thinks 'how the hell did that happen?'.

"That is just one of so many fond memories I have batting alongside you, times which provided some of the most fun I have had on a cricket field. When we ran between the wickets, for example, we never called for runs. It's a very difficult thing to explain practically but there is a feeling to it.

"There was a complete understanding of where the ball was going and nothing needed to be said. Fielders were always under pressure when we were batting. I don't ever remember missing a two with you or being in a position to be run out. It was amazing, as if we understood so perfectly that we were always on the same page.

"Through my time playing with and against you, you always had a very clear understanding of how the game should be played and you never really veered from that, regardless of whether you were doing well or not.

"It was never about someone else. It was never about competing with another player. It was always about what impact you could create for the team. In difficult situations, you were the man bailing out your team more often than not.

"Your drive to want to be the guy to win the game for your team was tremendous and something I learned a lot from. I remember taking from you that it doesn't matter what you have done in the last four games, it is about how you approach the game today. It is about always being positive, always taking the game on and finding a way to get the job done.

"You were always completely in tune with the needs of the team, which made you one of the hardest players to make plans for when we were on opposing sides in international cricket.

"Everyone remembers your attacking shots but you would adapt to the situation. Take 2015, in Delhi, when you faced 297 balls and made 43 trying to save the Test match.

"There must have been a temptation at some stage to think 'I've faced 200 balls, I need to hit a boundary'. But once you locked yourself into what the situation required, you just kept going on and on.

"It all comes back to that belief in your ability. It wasn't just about the crazy, extravagant shots. You had the ability to defend the ball and had belief in that defence. To play that way because South Africa needed you to do so is a classic example of the team player you were.

"A lot of players can have impressive numbers but very few have an impact on the psyche of those watching. For me, that is the highest value you can have as a cricketer and that is what makes you so special.

"You are in the Hall of Fame for the impact you have left on the game and I don't think there is anything more special for a cricketer than to have that honour.

"Congratulations, biscotti. You are one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

Virat"

Ab de Villiers, the former South African cricketer has played 114 Tests, scoring 8,756 runs at an average of 50.66, and two wickets. He has played 228 ODIs with 9,577 runs at an average of 53.50, and 7 wickets.

He has an average of 26.12 in the T20Is with 1,672 runs in 78 games.

Able to score around the ground with a full array of shots against all types of bowlers, De Villiers is regarded as both one of the most innovative and destructive batters in the modern game and a deserved member of the ICC Hall of Fame.

De Villiers made a lasting impact during a 14-year international career, scoring more than 20,000 international runs across all three formats, while also being revered as one of the greatest fielders to grace the game.

Boasting the fastest-ever men's ODI century, multiple ICC Men's ODI Player of the Year Awards and selected in the ICC Test Team of the Year on numerous occasions, de Villiers was also a leading player in the game's shortest format during its formative years as an international format.

Exiting from international cricket in 2018, de Villiers finished with a batting average of more than 50 in both Test and ODI cricket, with Jacques Kallis the only other South African player to boast more than de Villiers' 20,014 international runs.

"Can Still Fight Better": Mark Kom Blasts Nikhat And Co For Olympics Disaster

The six-member Indian boxing contingent, which included two World Champions and two World Championship medallists, was expected to deliver but fell short of securing any medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Mary Kom, the first Indian woman to win a medal at the Olympics, was not able to participate in this edition due the age limit rule in Boxing as no one above the age of 40 is allowed to participate. The 41-year old revealed she ‘could not digest,' the poor performance at the event. “I felt bad from the inside, there was no progress. The Paris Olympics was disappointing, all the boxers were washed out. I could not digest their performance and just kept thinking ‘agar mai jaati to' (If I was there instead). I can still fight better than these girls, performance wise, but could not participate due to the age limit."

“I am still training, still concerned about my fitness. I am confident that still no one could touch me for one or two rounds. That is the spirit. The current boxers don't have confidence and you could see it. I felt pain as I kept thinking why is there an age limit on only boxing?I still have that hunger, my dream and Olympic goal is still aching,” said Mary during a special address at the second edition of the Indian Gaming Convention (IGC).

India won their first ever medal in Boxing when Vijender Singh secured a historic bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics followed by Mary's Bronze Medal win in the Women's Flyweight at the 2012 London Olympics.

Lovlina Borgohain's bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, after the contingent did not secure a medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, is the country's third and most recent award in the sport at the Games.

India Eliminated From Women's T20 WC After NZ Beat Pakistan To Enter Semis

India were eliminated from the Women's T20 World Cup after New Zealand scripted a commanding 54-run victory over Pakistan in Dubai on Monday to reach the semifinals for the first time since the 2016 edition. India's only chance to make the semifinals was depended on a Pakistan win with an inferior Net Run-rate compared to theirs. Pakistan were very much in the game after restricting New Zealand to a meagre 110 for six in 20 overs.

However, Pakistan's batting crumbled badly as they were shot out for 56 in just 11.4 overs as White Ferns entered the semifinals with three wins from four games in Group A.

Australia topped the group with eight points while New Zealand came second with six points. The loss to New Zealand in their tournament opener effectively cost India a place in the last four.

Spinner Amelia Kerr took three wickets but it was seamers Lea Tahuhu (1/8) and Eden Carson (2/7) who opened the floodgates.

Pakistan were supposed to reach the target in less than 12 overs to qualify but they ended up being all out before that.

Earlier, Pakistan bowlers gave a good account of themselves restricting New Zealand to a modest total.

While openers Suzie Bates (28) and Georgia Plimmer (17) added 41 runs for the opening stand and just when it seemed that the duo has created a solid foundation, the Pakistani spinners suddenly applied the choke on the opposition.

The two spinners -- off-break bowler Omaima Sohail (1/14 in 4 overs) and left-arm orthodox Nashra Sandhu (3/18 in 4 overs) -- were brilliant through the middle overs with 21 dot balls and four wickets between them for only 29 runs.

Samson Ton Powers India To 133-Run Win, 3-0 T20I Series Sweep vs Bangladesh

Sanju Samson's ebullient maiden T20 International hundred dotted India's resounding 133-run victory and 3-0 series sweep over a listless Bangladesh in Hyderabad on Saturday. Once India broomed away records like rotten twigs while posting 297 for 6 after electing to bat, it was always a case of eventual margin of win and Bangladesh never really offered a meaningful fight, ending up at 164/7 in the third and final T20I. Pacer Mayank Yadav (2/32) and leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi (3/30) led the hosts' bowling effort.

Samson (111, 47 balls, 11x4, 8x6), who hammered the second fastest T20I century by an Indian after Rohit Sharma (35 balls), and skipper Suryakumar Yadav (75, 35 balls, 8x4, 5x6), biffed 173 runs during an electrifying second wicket stand, propelling the hosts past several records.

The total was second in the all-time list of the highest T20I team totals behind Nepal's 314 and ahead of Afghanistan's 278/3, and also India's highest in the shortest format.

They were purely amazing stats even taking into account a barren pitch and lighting quick outfield.

But beyond that cold realm of numbers, Samson's innings was touched by his esoteric genius, the ingredient that makes him compelling and frustrating in equal measure.

But the Kerala right-hander chose to display his captivating side on the field on a clement Hyderabad night and Bangladesh withered quickly.

Samson needed a big effort after lukewarm outings in the first two matches in Gwalior and New Delhi and, oh boy, did he make it count here! Samson's brand-new purpose found an immediate on-field expression as he pummelled pacer Taskin Ahmed for four consecutive fours -- two cover drives and as many flicks -- in the second over of the innings.

It was the perfect teaser for the blockbuster action that unfolded in the next 10.3 overs.

The rapid start also helped India move past the early dismissal of opener Abhishek Sharma (4), falling to a poorly-timed pull off slinger quick Tanzim Hasan.

Suryakumar was a mere spectator once Samson slipped into top gear with an array of mind-spinning shots. That could be the biggest tribute for the 29-year-old's knock.

It is quite tough to put Suryakumar to shade in T20Is but Samson did that with a knock of rare brilliance as India raced to 82 for 1 in Power Play and 152 for 1 after 10 overs.

No bowler was spared during the batting extravaganza that was based on the single-minded and simple philosophy of naked aggression.

It was so glaring in the 10th over when leg-spinner Rishad Hossain came to bowl. Hossain erred in line and length and Samson creamed him for five consecutive sixes, including a 105-meter monster.

But the most stunning shot in Samson's innings was a six off the backfoot off pacer Mustafizur Rahman.

Waiting deep inside the crease, Samson judged the slower ball to perfection, and whacked it over extra cover for a maximum, eliciting a dejected shrug and shake of head from the experienced bowler.

Soon, he brought up his hundred off 40 balls with a boundary off off-spinner Mahedi Hasan and celebrated with a roar and punch before getting melted into a tight embrace by his captain.

Suryakumar reminded the gallery of his presence, smashing Tanzim for three fours and a six while reaching his fifty in 23 balls.

But both the batters fell in the space of adding 10 runs. Samson was jettisoned by Mustafizur's well-directed bouncer and Suryakumar became Mahmudullah's last T20I victim, giving a simple catch to Rishad in deep.

But by then India had reached 206 for three in the 15th over.

That itself was a daunting total but Hardik Pandya (47, 18 balls, 4x4, 4x6) and Riyan Parag (34, 13 balls, 1x4, 4x6) flogged the dead horse to milk a further 70 runs for the fourth wicket as India raced to a massive total.

Once Mayank ousted Pervez Hossain in the first ball of Bangladesh innings, they struggled for momentum in the always futile chase of 298.

The tourists did not have the resources even to attempt a powerful chase as knocks by Towhid Hridoy (63 not out, 42 balls, 5x4, 3x6 ) and Litton Das (42, 25 balls, 8x4) remained distant specks in the match's scoresheet.

Nottingham Forest Fined Over Social Media Criticism Of VAR Official

Nottingham Forest were fined 750,000 pounds ($980,000) on Friday and warned over their future conduct after criticising VAR official Stuart Attwell on social media last season. Forest were furious not to be awarded three penalties during a 2-0 defeat at Everton in April as they battled to preserve their Premier League status. At the time, Nuno Espirito Santo's side were embroiled in a tense relegation fight with Everton, Luton and several other teams.

After the game, Forest posted on their official X account: "Three extremely poor decisions - three penalties not given - which we simply cannot accept.

"We warned the PGMOL that the VAR (Attwell) is a Luton fan before the game but they didn't change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times. NFFC will now consider its options."

Forest denied that their comments about Attwell brought the game into disrepute by "implying bias and/or questioning the integrity of match officials".

But an independent regulatory commission found the Football Association charge proven on Friday.

Forest responded by announcing they will appeal against the sanction.

"Nottingham Forest Football Club is extremely disappointed with the decision of the Regulatory Commission to impose a £750,000 fine in relation to comments posted on social media following our Premier League fixture against Everton on Sunday 21 April," a club statement said.

"We are particularly concerned that the FA, in its submissions, sought a sanction 'in excess of £1,000,000'. We believe that this request, along with the subsequent fine, is wholly disproportionate and the club will be appealing the decision."

Forest eventually finished 17th in the top-flight last term, six points above third bottom Luton, who were relegated along with Burnley and Sheffield United.

They sit 10th this season after losing only once in their first seven league games.

Juventus Readmitted To ECA After Failed Super League Revolt

Juventus have been readmitted to the European Club Association (ECA) after the Serie A club's failed bid to create a continental Super League, the organisation's chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi said on Thursday. Italy's most successful club, Juve abandoned the ECA in order to push for the so-called European Super League, which was launched in April 2021 but quickly collapsed after fan anger and threats from governing bodies UEFA and FIFA. "I am pleased to welcome Juventus back to our family. Now, all top division clubs in over 20 countries are ECA members," Al-Khelaifi, who is also president of Paris Saint-Germain, said during the ECA's General Assembly in Athens.

Juve, then chaired by Super League crusader Andrea Agnelli, intended to be one of 12 founder clubs alongside the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and a clutch of teams from England's Premier League.

Since the original Super League project failed, Agnelli has been hit with two lengthy bans from Italian football after the country's football federation found him and Juventus guilty of a series of financial offences.

The project is still technically alive and being pushed by A22 Sports Management, who are promoting a redesigned version of the breakaway continental competition with 64 teams playing in three divisions.

In December last year the European Union's Court of Justice ruled that a ban of the Super League enforced by the sport's existing governing bodies was against EU law.

Triple Centurion Harry Brook Happy To Break Dad's Club Record

England's rising batting star Harry Brook said he was delighted he had finally eclipsed his father's highest club score, when he hit a triple hundred against Pakistan in Multan on Thursday. The 25-year-old smashed a career best 317 that, coupled with Joe Root's 262, helped visitors pile 823-7 declared -- fourth highest total in all Test cricket -- England's third best. With a big 267-run lead over Pakistan in the first innings, England then caught the home team napping at 152-6. At close, Pakistan still needed 115 to avoid an innings defeat on the final day Friday.

Brook said his father's highest score was the target.

"I just wanted to get past my dad's high score 210," said Brook of his father David's score in a club match for Burnley in 2001.

Brook had missed a chance of surpassing dad's best when he scored 186 against New Zealand at Wellington last year.

"I said that to you guys before, I was pretty happy when I got past his score, to be honest."

Brook said he was satisfied to contribute in team's strong position.

"I am lost for words, to be honest, I'm just happy that the team's in a in a strong position to win the game tomorrow morning. It's an incredible thing."

Brook and Root enjoyed a run feast on a flat Multan stadium pitch, adding a big 454 for the fourth wicket, England's highest partnership in Tests.

It eclipsed the 411-run fourth-wicket partnership by Peter May and Colin Cowdrey against the West Indies at Birmingham in 1957.

"It was wonderful batting with Rooty," said Brook. "We spoke about the game moving forward and going out there after lunch to try and put the foot down and get a decent lead."

"It makes you feel so comfortable when you're watching him at the other end, he makes the game look so easy, and he's playing the ball so late and making the balls look slow."

Brook completed his triple century with a boundary off part-timer Saim Ayub, reaching the mark off 310 balls before he top-edged a sweep off the same bowler and was caught by Shan Masood.

Brook cracked 29 fours and three sixes in his 439-minute stay at the crease.

It was Brook's sixth Test century and his fourth against Pakistan following his three in as many Tests when England routed Pakistan 3-0 in 2022.

"Circle Of Life": Tennis Great Paes Gives Candid Answer On Current Struggles

The legendary Leander Paes on Wednesday lamented the decline of Indian tennis, describing it as part of the "circle of life" while emphasising the need for patience. The Indian team endured a 0-4 defeat against Sweden in its Davis Cup World Group I tie recently, which relegated them to the play-off stage for the upcoming year. "Like anything in life, when you go up, you have to come down, and then you come back up again. I am a big believer in the circle of life," the former world No 1 in doubles said.

"I think we all need to have a little bit of patience as far as tennis goes. We have all enjoyed such an upswing over the last 40 years, proving that we can be number one in both women's doubles and men's doubles." Currently, Sumit Nagal is the only Indian player in the top 100 of the ATP men's singles rankings, positioned at 83, while Ramkumar Ramanathan follows at 332.

At 44 years, Rohan Bopanna remains the flag-bearer of men's doubles in India, currently ranked sixth, with another veteran, Yuki Bhambri, at 43rd.

The WTA rankings reveal a grim situation for Indian women's tennis, with no players in the top 200; Sahaja Yamalapalli is the highest-ranked Indian at 293.

The 51-year-old further highlighted the significant growth of tennis in India over the past four decades, noting its rise to become the second most popular sport after cricket.

"Over the four decades that I played, tennis grew in popularity so much that it became the number two sport in the country after cricket," the winner of 18 Grand Slam titles said.

"At the international level, tennis was winning more Grand Slams and international events. Between Sania, Mahesh, Bopanna and me, we have collectively won close to 40 Grand Slam titles, along with Olympic medals and several Asian Games medals. Tennis saw a great period over about 40 years.

"A little bit of patience is needed; the circle of life is playing out. We will experience a slump, but we will rise again.

"The circle of life is evident in everything -- business or otherwise. The greatest key to success is patience. I have no doubt that tennis will rise again to the top in India," he added.

Watch: Riyan Parag Tries Controversial Action, Ends Up Bowling Rare No-Ball

The second T20I between India and Bangladesh saw a delivery by Riyan Parag being called a no-ball for a very rare reason. Bowling his very first over in the 11th over of the Bangladesh innings, Parag decided to switch things up on the fourth ball. Parag tried a bizarre sling action, somewhat similar to former India batter Kedar Jadhav's wide action. The trick backfired massively, as Parag ended up stepping outside the pitch tramlines, and rightly saw the ball signalled a no-ball.

Watch: Riyan Parag's bizarre no ball

Why was it a no ball?

Law 21.5 of the rules of cricket set by England's famous Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) mentions the following:

"The bowler's back foot must land within and not touch the return crease, appertaining to his/her stated mode of delivery. - behind the popping crease. If the bowler's end umpire is not satisfied that all of these three conditions have been met, he/she shall call and signal No ball."

This means that the moment Parag's back foot stepped beyond the white tramline to his left, it was going to be a no ball.

Not only did Parag's foot land outside the tramline, it landed outside the pitch altogether.

The umpire required a couple of checks, but ultimately confirmed it as a no-ball.

Riyan Parag's comeback

Parag returned to his normal action in the very next delivery, the freehit, and prevented Mahmudullah from scoring any extra runs. Just two balls later, Mehidy Hasan Miraz tried to slog Riyan Parag over long-off, and got caught in the deep by substitute fielder Ravi Bishnoi.

Parag also played a cameo at the end of the Indian batting innings. He faced just six balls, but scored 15 runs, hitting two sixes. His little knock helped India add some more runs towards the end, as India piled on 221 in 20 overs against a hapless Bangladesh bowling.

"Expect To See Him...": Jaiswal Receives Big Advice From West Indies Great

India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is equipped to "play in any conditions" but will need to make some mental adjustments for the upcoming tour of Australia, the legendary Brian Lara said on Tuesday. Jaiswal has established himself as a vital cog in the Test side with 929 runs in only eight matches this year at 66.35, his two centuries and six fifties putting him as the leading run-scorer for India in 2024. "He has got the ability to play in any conditions. I saw him in the Caribbean. Obviously, the pitches in Australia are slightly different, but if you take that sort of strength that you have, you're going to play good cricket in any conditions.

"I expect to see him do well," Lara told the media during the launch of the International Masters League.

The West Indies great said Jaiswal will need to make some mental adjustments to continue his success Down Under.

"I think the adjustment is upstairs," said Lara, pointing towards his head when asked if the Indian opener will have to make any adjustments.

"The adjustment is your ability to back your talent in whatever conditions. I say this with a pinch of salt because conditions in India have changed.

"With the IPL you've got international players coming. You are feeding your players a different level of competition, which is great, so I don't think there's much that he has to do technically," he added.

"I just think, mentally, travelling away from home, playing against Australia on their shores is a different beast. But I believe that the Indian team that I've seen going to Australia over the last couple of occasions, are very capable of winning," he said.

While the former West Indies captain praised India's aggressive approach to force a result in the rain-hit Kanpur Test against Bangladesh to try and earn World Test Championship points, Lara said such an outcome is not possible every time.

"(It was) not just (about) the points. It's a situation where India knows that they have the advantage in terms of being the better playing team against Bangladesh, and they've got to put themselves," he said.

"They've got to give themselves the opportunity. I love the way that they went about it in such a short space of time to put Bangladesh under pressure. The performance by India with the bat was always to put Bangladesh under pressure." "Test cricket is about attrition. Not every single day you're going to have 2-3 days washed out. I want to see a lot of games going into the fourth and the fifth day. I want to see batters holding on, battling if they have to battle. Bowlers being as disciplined as possible." "That Test match was a Test match where India felt that they have an opportunity to win. But it's not going to happen that way all the time," said Lara.

Sophie Ecclestone Stars As England Crush South Africa By Seven Wickets

England put up an all-round show to outplay South Africa by seven wickets for their second successive win in the Women's T20 World Cup in Sharjah on Monday. England's four-pronged spin attack led by Sophie Ecclestone (2/15) strangulated South Africa in the death overs to restrict them to 124/6 after they opted to bat on a tricky wicket. In reply, England lost two wickets inside nine overs, but thereafter opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge (43 off 43) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (48 not out from 36b; 6x4) took complete control of the chase, romping home with four balls to spare.

The duo put together a match-winning 64-run partnership that came off just 55 balls. Danni got stumped against the run of play.

But by then the equation had boiled down to 11 from 12 balls, and Sciver-Brunt sealed it in the final over smashing Ayabonga Khaka for a boundary through extra cover.

Following a sedate start, South Africa lost four wickets in the last four overs and managed just 39 runs.

South African skipper Laura Wolvaardt looked resolute but it was Ecclestone who triggered the collapse dismissing the skipper eight runs short of her fifty.

Legspinner Sarah Glenn brilliantly complemented Ecclestone, conceding just 1/18 from her four overs.

Brief Scores South Africa 124/6; 20 overs (Laura Wolvaardt 42, Annerie Dercksen 20 not out; Sophie Ecclestone 2/15, Sarah Glenn 1/18) lost to England 125/3; 19.2 overs (Danni Wyatt-Hodge 43, Nat Sciver-Brunt 48 not out) by seven wickets.

"Be Bahadur Like Rohit Sharma": Pakistan Captain Given Blunt Advice

It isn't easy being Rohit Sharma. The India captain has inspired everyone with his positive intent as a leader and counter-attacking approach with the bat. Rohit's mindset has done wonders to his reputation as a cricketer over the last year or so. As the Pakistan cricket team and its skipper Shan Masood go through a rough patch, a 'Rohit Sharma advice' has been given. Former Pakistan cricketer Basti Ali has asked Masood to be be 'bahardu' (brave) like India captain Rohit if he is to bring his career as a skipper back on track.

"Shan Masood saab, counter-attack kar dena chahiye tha aapko (you should have counter-attacked)," said Basit, suggesting he too shoul've announced playing XI after England did ahead of the first Test.

"It's still not late, do it in the morning (Sunday) after assessing the pitch," he said. "What will happen at most? A mistake, so what! Mistakes happened against Bangladesh as well. The one who counter-attacks, wins."

Basit feels Masood's inability to take bold decisions has prevented him from becoming a successful skipper. Citing Rohit's example, Basit said that Masood needs to be bolder in decision-making.

"Agar aap chahte hain ki Rohit Sharma ke jaise bahadur banein kaptaani mei, to faisle karein (if you want to be brave like Rohit in captaincy, then make decisions). If you take brave calls, then only you will win," said Basit.

Basit also asked Masood to help his teammates elevate their confidence level by cheering them up. He also rued the fact that Pakistan don't have the sort of marquee players that India have, citing examples of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, etc.

"You don't have a Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, (Ravindra Jadeja) or 'Boom Boom' Bumrah. So raise the confidence level of those you have with you. Tell them 'you are my match-winner'. Simple theory," Basit concluded.

Usha Accused Of Spreading Lies On Olympians' Felicitation By IOA Treasurer

Indian Olympic Association Treasurer Sahdev Yadav on Tuesday hit back at president PT Usha for claiming that IOA Executive Committee members were not agreeing on a proposal to felicitate Paris Olympics medal-winners, saying her assertion is a "blatant lie". Usha on Monday said that it was "deeply concerning" that the EC members failed to honour Olympic medallists and accused the Finance Committee of blocking funds intended to support Indian athletes' preparation for the Paris Games.

In a rebuttal to Usha's claims, Sahdev said, "... there has been no discussion with EC members nor any official proposal in writing for organizing a felicitation ceremony for the medallists of Paris Olympics 2024." Sahdev, who is also the president of the Indian Weightlifting Federation, accused Usha of "spreading lies" and "cooking up" things instead of taking responsibilities as per the IOA constitution.

"...we fail to understand why IOA President is spreading lies across the whole country, to put down the EC members, which does not have any proof nor hold any genuine ground," he said.

"... her repeated efforts and proposals are nothing but blatant lies which has been cooked by the President every now and then and shedding crocodile tears in front of the media." India secured six medals in the Paris Olympics, including two historic bronze finishes by young shooter Manu Bhaker, but Usha on Monday said the "EC does not want to celebrate their success" and it makes her "very sad." "These athletes have made the nation proud, and it is the responsibility of the IOA to celebrate their achievements with the respect they deserve.

"It is deeply concerning that, even after returning home in mid-August, the EC has failed to discuss or take any steps towards organizing a formal felicitation ceremony," she had said in a statement.

She had also revealed that a proposal for a preparatory grant of Rs two lakh for each Olympic-bound athlete and Rs one lakh for each coach had been blocked by the Finance Committee, notably by Sahdev.

Reacting to this, Sadev said, "This is for the information of everyone that any proposal recommended and approved by the EC members and finance committee has been paid without any delay by Mr Sahdev Yadav, Treasurer of IOA." The internal feud within the IOA has been on since the appointment of Raghuram Iyer as its CEO on January 5. Iyer has Usha's backing while the EC members are unanimous in demanding his removal.

The bone of contention has been his salary of Rs 20 lakh per month, along with perks.

On September 26, an EC meeting was called to resolve the issue on the insistence of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) but the deadlock remained.

On Saturday, the 12 EC members sent a letter to senior International Olympic Committee (IOC) official Jerome Poivey, accusing Usha of running the organisation in an "autocratic" manner after she rejected their demand to remove Iyer as IOA CEO during the contentious meeting.

Usha had called the accusations "malicious and false," asserting that they were aimed at undermining her leadership and the efforts to improve Indian sports.
