IPL 2024 Points Table: What Huge Win Over DC Means For KKR's Playoff Hopes

Kolkata Knight Riders took a massive step towards booking their spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs with a seven-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals on Monday. Phil Salt played a blinder to make short work of the run chase after brilliant bowling performances from Varun Chakaravarthy and Vaibhav Arora. The win means that KKR have 12 points from 9 matches with a Net Run Rate of 1.096 - the best in the competition till now. They are second in the IPL 2024 points table and on the other hand, Delhi Capitals are sixth with 10 points from 11 matches with a NRR of -0.442.

Kolkata Knight Riders notched up a comfortable seven-wicket win over Delhi Capitals.

Opting to bat first, Delhi Capitals were stopped at 153/9 by KKR's disciplined bowlers. The home team completed the chase of 154 with 21 balls to spare.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

While batting, KKR raced to 79 for no loss in the power play with Phil Salt (68 off 33 balls) taking the DC bowling attack to the cleaners.

Earlier, Delhi Capitals scored 67 runs in the power play while losing three wickets. However, the visitors simply caved in after the dismissal of their skipper Rishabh Pant (27 off 20 balls).

Batting at number nine, spinner Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with an unbeaten 35 off 26 balls. Among KKR bowlers, spinner Varun Chakaravarthy finished with excellent figures of 3/16 in four overs, while the returning Vaibhav Arora too impressed, an unplayable delivery getting him the wicket of Shai Hope.

"Considering the last few matches, 200 was a par score. After the powerplay the pitch started helping the spinners, was tacky. We got a fair idea as to how it played and to tackle the tackiness. Narine still does not attend those meetings but Salt is always there, gives us his inputs and it's pure bliss to see him coming up and doing all this," KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer said at the post-match presentation.

IPL 2024 Points Table: RCB Keep Playoff Hopes Alive, CSK Take Huge Step

Royal Challengers Bengaluru keep their IPL 2024 playoff dreams alive with a massive nine-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans while Chennai Super Kings moved up to third in the points table with a win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday. RCB rode brilliant knocks from Virat Kohli and Will Jacks to register their second victory on the trot. They remain at the bottom of the IPL 2024 points table even after the win but they can still qualify for the playoffs if they win all of their remaining matches. On the other hand, CSK moved up to the third spot with 10 points from 9 matches while Sunrisers Hyderabad fell to fourth with 10 points from 9 matches as well but an inferior Net Run Rate (NRR).

Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad missed his second successive IPL century by a whisker, while pacers Tushar Deshpande and Matheesha Pathirana decimated the Sunrisers Hyderabad batting as Chennai Super Kings won their IPL 2024 home game by 78 runs.

After Gaikwad scored a 54-ball 98 and shared a 107-run partnership with Daryl Mitchell (52) to give CSK a healthy 212/3, Deshpande (4/27) and Sri Lankan Pathirana (2/17) came up with match-winning bowling figures to dismiss SRH for 134 in 18.5 overs.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

Deshpande took the wickets of opener Travis Head (13) and Anmolpreet Singh (0) in his first over before getting rid of Abhishek Sharma (15) and captain Pat Cummins (5), while Pathirana got the dangerous Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen to demolish SRH.

Earlier,  Will Jacks slammed a sensational hundred while Virat Kohli upped his game in the middle overs as Royal Challengers Bengaluru outplayed Gujarat Titans by nine wickets.

Kohli (70 not out of 44), whose approach in the middle overs was questioned in the previous game, employed the sweep shot against the spinners to make a statement before Jacks (100 not out off 41) cut loose to gun down the 201-run target with as many 24 balls to spare.

Jacks went berserk in what turned out be the final over of the game, hammering as many as four sixes and four off Rashid Khan to close out the game much sooner than expected. The Englishman plundered as many as 10 sixes in his breathtaking effort.

Champion Carlos Alcaraz Passes 'Test Of Fire' To Reach Madrid Open Last 16

Carlos Alcaraz passed a "test of fire" to breeze into the Madrid Open last 16 with a straight sets victory over Thiago Seyboth Wild on Sunday, demonstrating he is over his injury worries before the French Open. The double defending champion came through 6-3, 6-3 and will face last year's runner-up Jan-Lennard Struff in the next round after another impressive showing before adoring fans on home soil. World number three Alcaraz, 20, missed a month prior to Madrid with a forearm issue but returned to crush Alexander Shevchenko in the second round. Still wearing a protective sleeve on his right arm, he had far too much for Seyboth Wild, who had ousted 28th seed Lorenzo Musetti.

"Maybe today I was a bit nervous about how it would be, Thiago hits the ball so hard, I didn't know how the forearm would hold up," said Alcaraz on court.

"Today was the test of fire, no discomfort, feeling spectacular... from here, we'll be getting better."

Indian Wells champion Alcaraz broke for a 4-3 lead in the first set when Seyboth Wild blinked first and sent a forehand into the net.

The second seed sealed the set with another break when his Brazilian opponent double faulted.

Alcaraz stepped up a gear in the second set, winning 10 of the first 11 points and breaking in the second and fourth games as he raced into a 5-0 lead.

Seyboth Wild battled to a hold and a break to salvage some pride but Alcaraz triumphed on serve when the Brazilian went long.

"I was very comfortable on the court, moving, hitting the ball, as I always say finishing the game isn't easy, it's nerves," added Alcaraz.

Germany's Struff defeated Frenchman Ugo Humbert 7-5, 6-4.

Andrey Rublev came back from 5-0 down in a first set tie-break to beat home favourite Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 7-6 (12/10), 6-4 in a nervy affair.

The world number eight saved five set points to stun his opponent, before a similarly hard-fought second set.

Rublev broke for a 5-4 lead with a shot which the Spaniard chose to leave as he thought it was long, but Hawk-Eye showed it was in by a whisker.

The Russian wrapped up his win with a forehand winner, his second win of the week after four straight defeats prior.

Women's world number four Elena Rybakina eased to a 6-1, 6-4 win over Egypt's Mayar Sherif to reach the last 16.

The Kazakh, who has a tour-leading three titles this season after triumphing in Stuttgart last week, broke twice in the first set to move 5-0 ahead on the Spanish clay.

Although Sherif battled harder in the second set, surviving four match points to hold for 5-4 down, Rybakina clinched the victory on serve at the Caja Magica.

"Despite the score, it was a very tough match," said Rybakina, who also leads the tour with 28 wins.

"It was a lot of deuces and we both fought a lot -- I'm really happy with the performance today."

Rybakina will face teenager Sara Bejlek in the next round after the Czech defeated American Ashlyn Krueger 6-3, 6-1.

"I've never played against a player like this," said the 18-year-old. "I will try my best and we'll see how it will go tomorrow."

Mirra Andreeva defeated Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova 7-5, 6-1 to return to the last 16 for the second year running.

The 16-year-old Russian won 25 points to nine in the second set against the world number seven from the Czech Republic.

"Jewel For Indian Cricket": Ravi Shastri's Stamp For Rajasthan Royals Star

Rajasthan Royals cemented their spot at the top of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 points table, thanks to an unbeaten 121-run partnership between Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Saturday. While skipper Samson led the charge, scoring a 33-ball 71 against Lucknow, Jurel proved why he is also a capable T20 batter, with a fine half-century. While Samson drew most plaudits, Jurel earned the tag of 'Jewel' by former India each coach Ravi Shastri.

"This Jurel is a Jewel for Indian cricket. Right now and going ahead into the future. Serious Dude," Jurel wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

RR captain Samson scored the highest for RR with an unbeaten 71 off 33 while Jurel played a blistering knock of 52 runs in 34 deliveries. LSG bowlers missed their mark and were further broken apart due to multiple dropped catches.

Chasing a target of 197, openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler got Rajasthan Royals off to a flying start in the powerplay.

LSG captain KL Rahul opted to stick to pace, as he brought Yash Thakur for the last over of powerplay and the bowler provided his team with a big breakthrough, dismissing the in-form Jos Buttler in his very first over.

In the seventh over, RR lost both their openers as Marcus Stoinis dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal on his very first ball of the night. KL Rahul finally opted to make a shift to spin, as he brought Krunal Pandya into the attack and the bowler delivered an economical over, conceding 7 runs.

The 41-year-old Amit Mishra announced his arrival in style, as he dismissed Ryan Parag and added further pressure on RR's run-chase. Dhruv Jurel showed some much-needed explosiveness at the crease, running an onslaught against Mohsin Khan, slamming three boundaries and one six.

Samson slammed a half-century in 28 balls while Jurel continued his impressive form as he bagged his maiden IPL fifty in 31 balls. In the 19th over of the game, Samson and Jurel slammed a four and six to guide their team home with a 7-wicket victory against the home team.

IPL 2024: Sanju Samson, Dhruv Jurel Shine As RR Beat LSG By 7 Wickets

Sanju Samson scored five runs less than his opposite number KL Rahul but his unbeaten 71 off 33 balls had five times more impact compared to Rahul's relatively sedate 48-ball-76 as Rajasthan Royals took a giant leap towards IPL play-offs by comfortably beating Lucknow Super Giants by seven wickets at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Saturday. While Rahul still is favourite to become Rishabh Pant's understudy as the second glovesman at the T20 World Cup, Samson did hit four classy sixes, including the winning one in a chase of 197, to keep himself in the discussion for that US bound flight. Samson and Jurel came together after the Royals had stumbled from a brisk start to hand the advantage to the home side, putting on a robust stand of 121 runs in just 62 balls stand for the unconquered fourth wicket to take their side over the line.

Chasing a tricky 197 with LSG deploying seven bowlers including two leg-spinners, Rajasthan finished at 199 for three to win with an over to spare.

On his part, the young Jurel finally discovered his to put behind a barren run, smacking five fours and two sixes to make a sturdy 52 not out off 34 balls.

The win took top-placed Rajasthan to 16 points - six clear from the second-best Kolkata Knight Riders - and a step closer to become the first team to reach the playoffs in the 17th edition. The play-offs cut-off this yearis likely to be 18 points if one goes by the current mid-table muddle.

LSG remained on fourth spot with 10 points in bag.

Rajasthan openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (24) and Jos Buttler (34) knocked off 60 runs from the target unscathed, but their side went through a slump in the following overs while also losing three wickets in quick succession.

It began with Buttler walking across his stumps to miss an angled full toss from Thakur, who knocked down the leg-stump for the first breakthrough.

Marcus Stoinis bowled an innocuous delivery outside off to invite a free-flowing Jaiswal to go for it. The left-hander obliged but did not connect well, finding Bishnoi at deep point.

LSG's plans to tie the Royals down with leg-spin became evident when the 41-year-old Amit Mishra came on as impact substitute and got the priced scalp of Riyan Parag (11) in his first over.

Rajasthan slipped from 60 for no loss to 78/3 after nine, and this was when Jurel and Samson began their recovery work to put Rajasthan back on track again.

Jurel and Samson began with a six and a four respectively off Mishra to push the leg-spinner on the backfoot and took 17 runs off Thakur's second over.

Krunal Pandya (0/24) did well on his part to send down a few measly overs in between but RR were back on charge again when Mohsin Khan came on in the 14th over.

Jurel hit the left-armer for 20 runs including three fours and a six in Mohsin's third of the game and also enjoyed a reprieve when Thakur, placed at short third man, dropped a crucial catch when the RR batter was on 32.

Bishnoi's introduction as late as in the 16th over had no impact whatsoever, with RR having grasped full control of the proceedings. The leg-spinner leaked another 16 runs as RR inched closer to the finish line.

Earlier in the first half, Rahul (76 off 48 balls) dug deep with Deepak Hooda (50 off 31 balls) as Lucknow Super Giants managed a competitive 196/5 against Rajasthan Royals.

Rahul and Hooda gave LSG a solid footing with a 62-ball 115-run stand for the third wicket after early blows, but the failure of others meant the hosts could not capitalise on the hard work by the two.

Rahul's 48-ball 76 with eight fours and two sixes was his fourth fifty of the season while Hooda banished his poor string of scores to make his first big score this IPL.

MI Haven't Been Effective Enough In...: Tim David

Mumbai Indians have struggled to effectively halt opposing teams' momentum once they start building it, which is something the five-time IPL champions must address going forward, feels batter Tim David. MI find themselves in the eighth spot with only three wins from eight outings. They suffered a nine-wicket loss to table-toppers Rajasthan Royals in their previous outing. Barring Jasprit Bumrah, their bowling has been disappointing. "Someone like Booms (Jasprit Bumrah) has been winning games for us but we haven't been effective enough in shutting teams down when they get going.

"That is a challenge going forward," David said on the eve of MI's match against Delhi Capitals here.

"It was pretty obvious against RR that wasn't the standard that we set ourselves to. That is the challenge for the playing group, we set the tone," the Australian added.

Known to be perennial slow starters, MI find themselves in a precarious situation and cannot afford to lose another game if they are serious about making the play-offs.

"Obviously we had a slow start to the season, then we played some better cricket. If we had won our last game it would have been our fourth win in five matches so far.

"We need to play our best cricket it is coming to that point in the season," David said.

MI are scheduled to play Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders twice each besides Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last five fixtures, which are must-win fixtures for them. All three teams are in the top four currently, making MI's task that much harder.

"If we want to win the competition we need to beat the best in the competition. We haven't played all those sides but if we beat them, we are in the playoffs where all the teams considered the best will be." Bumrah has been Mumbai's knight in shining armour, winning matches for them single-handedly and David is glad he doesn't have to face "the best in the world".

"He is incredibly consistent, he believes in his own skillset and has a history of good performance. He has a unique action that makes him difficult to pick up, he bowls fast, nails yorkers and also has hard-to-pick slower balls."

'Like Peak Bumrah, Chahal': Star Gets Approval As 2nd Spinner For T20 WC

Former Indian cricket team batter Sanjay Manjrekar believes that Kuldeep Yadav should partner Ravindra Jadeja in the spin department for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Following Kuldeep's superb bowling in Delhi Capitals' thrilling win over Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024 on Wednesday, Manjrekar said that Kuldeep looks like a "Jasprit Bumrah or Yuzvendra Chahal at his peak" and the confidence can be a major asset for India in the upcoming tournament. He further added that Kuldeep looks comfortable while handling responsibilities and he can form a formidable partnership with Ravindra Jadeja.

"Yes. And this is perhaps Kuldeep Yadav at his peak with regards to his skills, his confidence. You can see now he's out there like a Bumrah or Chahal at his peak. He is commanding that kind of respect. He looks comfortable with the responsibility and champions, you know, those breaks and those moments that you are seeking at the right time," Manjrekar said on Star Sports.

"Last over today, DC wanted a wicket. They got the wicket of Tewatia there and just seized the game. So this is where Kuldeep has now become a champion bowler and he is somebody I mean that we should pencil down. Ravindra Jadeja will come in as a left-arm spinner batter and Kuldeep the second spinner," he added.

Kuldeep has impressed in IPL 2024 with 12 wickets from 6 matches.

"Happy to get the win. These two points are very important. Amazing game. When we went into the last over, knew it was going to be very tight. We had a plan, coach and captain wanted one over when Tewatia came into bat. Luckily it worked out. You have to read the batsmen and see what they are trying to do. We batted well, 225 is a good total. I didn't want to try too much when I came into bowl."

"Just focused on my lines and lengths and saw what the batters were trying to do. (On Tewatia's wicket) I bowled a few balls into the wicket to him, thought he might slog-sweep, it was a good plan from the keeper and we got the wicket," Kuldeep said after the match.

"Justice For Sanju": Tharoor Bats For "Best IPL Keeper" For T20 World Cup

Ahead of the T20 World Cup in the Americas, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has thrown his weight behind Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson. India are expected to announce their 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup later this week and Tharoor has re-iterated his support for Samson, who according to him should be picked by the selectors. This isn't the first time that Tharoor has openly came out in support of Samson over the lack of opportunities given to him by the Indian selectors.

Tharoor once again re-iterated that Samson doesn't get enough backing of the selectors, expressing his displeasure regarding the lack of attention regarding the wicketkeeper.

"Delighted to agree with my fellow MP Harbhajan Singh on both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson. Have been arguing for years that Sanju has not had the selectoral breaks he deserved. Now he is the leading Keeper-batsman in the IPL but is still not discussed when the team is debated. Justice for Sanju!," Tharoor wrote while resharing a tweet from former India spinner Harbhajan, who also batted for Samson's selection.

There has been a lot of discussion regarding India's wicketkeeper for the tournament with the likes of Rishabh Pant, Samson, KL Rahul and Dinesh Karthik in the mix.

However, judging by his recent form, Samson fits the bill. He has scored 314 runs at 62.80 in just eight matches so far in IPL 2024. His scores read 82*, 15, 12, 69, 68, 18, 12 and an unbeaten 38.

He only needs 48 runs to equal his tally from last season (362) with six games left to play in the group phase. RR are currently top in the standing with 12 points from a possible 16 and could seal their spot in the playoffs if they win their next two matches.

India's probable squad and travelling reserves:

Rohit Sharma (C), Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Sanju Samson, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Jasprit Bumrah, Md. Siraj, Arshdeep Singh & Avesh Khan

Why RCB Couldn't Retain Chahal In 2022? Mike Hesson Reveals Real Reason

Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Director of Cricket Mike Hesson revealed why they did not retain the Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season auction. Hesson, who served as the franchise's DoC from 2019-2023, made these comments as Chahal became the first-ever bowler in the history of IPL to reach the landmark of 200 wickets. Speaking on JioCinema, Hesson revealed that he did not retain Chahal because retaining just three players gave the team an extra four crore rupees to spend, through which they aimed to buy back both Chahal and pacer Harshal Patel.

However, during the auction, Yuzvendra's name popped up very late. They were interested in another option, Sri Lankan spin all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga to boost their attack. When Hasaranga popped up earlier in the auction, RCB went for him and they missed on Chahal whose name came much later.

"Yuzi (Chahal) is one I will be frustrated with until I have finished my career and probably beyond. He is an outstanding bowler. I guess when it comes to every cycle, you have got to decide who you are going to retain. It was one of those things where if you only retain three players, you give yourself an extra 4 crore in the auction. That potentially gave us the chance to get both Harshal (Patel) and Yuzi," Hesson told former India batter Robin Uthappa on Jio Cinema.

"Then the order of the auction came up and Yuzvendra Chahal was at no. 65. Because we had retained that many players we were going to get bullied. After Yuzi there was no other spinner we were interested in. We were obviously interested in Hasaranga as another option if we did not get Yuzi. So we bid for him upfront and then once we hot Hasaranga that meant we could not go for Yuzi," he added.

In 153 matches, Chahal has taken 200 wickets at an average of 21.60, with the best figures of 5/40. He has taken six four-wicket hauls and a five-wicket haul during his IPL career.

The veteran Indian spinner reached this milestone during the IPL match against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Sawai Man Singh Stadium.

This incredible moment in Chahal's cricketing career came during the eighth over of the game. Chahal caught and bowled Afghanistan and MI all-rounder Mohammed Nabi for 23 runs to bring up his double century of wickets.

Chahal played for Mumbai Indians (2011-13), and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) (2014-21) before joining Rajasthan Royals in 2022. While he had no wickets for MI in the only match he played, he took 139 wickets for RCB in 113 matches. Now for RR, he has taken 61 wickets in 39 matches.

Coming to the match, Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first. MI was 20/3 at one point. Then it was Tilak, who had a 32-run partnership with Mohammed Nabi (23 in 17 balls, with two fours and a six) and a 99-run stand with Nehal Wadhera (49 in 24 balls, with three fours and a six). It took MI to 179/9 in their 20 overs.

Sandeep Sharma (5/18) was the top bowler for Rajasthan and got a memorable five-wicket haul. Trent Boult also took 2/32 in his four overs. Avesh Khan got one wicket. Spinner Yuzvendra Chahal also got a wicket and became the first player to get to 200 IPL wickets.

In the run-chase, Jaiswal struck his second IPL century, scoring 104* in 60 balls, with nine fours and seven sixes. Knocks from Jos Buttler (35 in 25 balls, with six fours) and skipper Sanju (38 in 28 balls, with two fours and two sixes) guided RR to a nine-wicket win.

Jaiswal took home the 'Player of the Match' award.

RR is at the top of the points table with seven wins and a loss, giving them 14 points. MI is at the seventh spot with three wins, five losses and six points.

Jaiswal Pays Special Tribute To Virat , Rohit , Samson After 2nd IPL Ton

Following his side's nine-wicket win, India and Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has thanked all the seniors for helping through his tough phase during the first half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Yashasvi's return-to-form century and Sandeep Sharma's five-wicket haul were the key highlights as RR defeated MI by nine wickets at Jaipur's Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday.

Following the win, in a video posted by the IPL, Jaiswal said, "I am enjoying it (The IPL). It is incredible (the century). Initially, it was tough for me. But that is what cricket is, you have to go through ups and downs and all the learning. I would like to thank all my seniors, Rohit bhaiya (Rohit Sharma), Virat bhaiya (Virat Kohli), Sanju bhaiya (Sanju Samson) and Sanga sir (Kumar Sangakkara, RR Director of Cricket) for the way they have been talking to me during these past few days."

Sandeep Sharma, who was in the video along with Jaiswal, said that the team knew that such a knock from Jaiswal was coming after some low scores.

"I trust he will play more such innings during the coming games," he added.

Jaiswal lauded Sandeep, saying that he is calm under pressure and loves bowling with the new ball.

The pacer said that when he was injured, the franchise's management assured him that he will be in the playing eleven once he was fit.

"Management gave me that positive vibe and assurance. That is really important and it helped me," added Sandeep.

On his plan against MI's Suryakumar Yadav, the number one ranked T20I batter, Sandeep said that he lured the batter into playing his favourite flick shot by delivering him a leg-cutter at the middle-leg stump area and it worked as he was caught by Rovman Powell.

"I was lucky today. The ball with which I dismissed Tim David today, he usually hits them for sixes. This was a lucky five-wicket haul for me," Sandeep concluded.

Coming to the match, Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first. MI were 20/3 at one point.

Sandeep took home the 'Player of the Match' award.

RR are at the top of the points table with seven wins and a loss, giving them 14 points. MI are in the seventh spot with three wins, five losses and six points.

Not Jaiswal Or Gill, Ganguly Backs Star Duo To Open For India At T20 WC

Delhi Capitals (DC) Director of Cricket and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly opened up on the need to adopt a fearless approach in T20I cricket by Team India and praised star batter Virat Kohli, saying that he has the ability to get a 40-ball century. Delhi Capitals is currently at eighth place in the points table with six points after three wins and five losses. They lost their last game to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Speaking during a media event in Delhi, Ganguly said, "The most important thing for India is to play without fear. There is no hard and fast rule about age and playing youngsters in T20Is, James Anderson still plays Tests and bowls 30 overs in Tests, MS Dhoni still hits sixes and both are in their 40s. Six-hitting is important. Virat has got the capability to hit a 40-ball century. It is about playing fearlessly and freely in T20Is."

"India needs to go out and hit. Rohit, Virat, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya etc. All of them are exceptional talents and their six-hitting abilities are tremendous, he added.

While Ganguly would like the selection committee, coach Rahul Dravid and Rohit to take decisions in the best interest of the team during the T20 World Cup, he would ideally like to see the Kohli-Rohit opening combination.

"If you ask me and it's just my personal opinion and I'm not saying that the selectors should do it, because at the end of the day, it's their call, Rohit and Virat should open," he said

After a magnificent home Test series against England, has Yashasvi Jaiswal fallen off the radar in terms of T20 World Cup selection, taking his recent IPL form into account? "I don't think Yashasvi's name has dropped too far down the ladder. He's a special player," Ganguly replied.

For him, selection for T20 World Cup shouldn't be based on one IPL season.

Expanding on the Team India he wants for the T20 WC starting from June 1 this year in West Indies/USA, Ganguly said that there needs to be a balance of youth and experience.

"There needs to be a balance of experience and youth. This is the case with great teams. You have to look at all the performances (in IPL and international both). The experienced players of India are tremendous because of the performances they have put up over the years."

Speaking on the Impact Player rule, which allows teams to use substitutes in the matches, Ganguly said that it has not really diminished the role of all-rounder, but rather given the team a way to play better batter instead of an average all-rounder.

"Good all-rounders always play and contribute. Look at Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell," he added.

On KL Rahul's approach in T20 cricket, Ganguly said that it all depends on what his captain and coaches tell him.

"His innings against Chennai Super Kings, was exceptional (82 in 53 balls on last Friday)," added Ganguly.

Ganguly said that IPL will indeed affect how selectors choose the squad for T20 WC, but hoped that selectors will look at performances in the past three-four seasons.

DC's next game is against Gujarat Titans (GT) at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 24.

"Would Never See Rohit Say Something Like That": Raina Rips Into Du Plessis

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) haven't been up to their best in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, winning just one game in 7 matches so far. Be it the performances of some youngsters in the team or their veterans, RCB have barely found things they could be proud of. In fact, the franchise's captain Faf du Plessis has often singled out players who cost the team the match. But, such comments weren't welcomed by his former Chennai Super Kings teammate Suresh Raina. (IPL 2024 Points Table)

After RCB's loss in the match against the Rajasthan Royals, Du Plessis highlighted the 20-run over by Mayank Dagar as the game-changer. "The pitch definitely got better; you could feel it; the ball was skidding along nicely. We were excellent in the first four overs. I think that 20 runs over (from Dagar) took the momentum away and shifted the pressure back on us."

Raina, in an interview with Lallantop, slammed Du Plessis for throwing his teammate under the bus. He even asserted that someone like Rohit Sharma would never make such a comment about his teammate.

"If you speak something like this about a junior in front of the press, it's not right. The captain himself hasn't been scoring runs. I've played with Faf for many years and he's a dear friend, but he should support the youngsters. You'd never see Rohit Sharma say something like this."

During the chat, Raina also opened up about his plans to open an academy in J&K.

"I wanted to open my first academy in Jammu and Kashmir because I know that there are many talented kids there. A lot of talent has come from there in domestic cricket, international cricket, and in the IPL. They are very passionate. The kids have bat and ball on the right side and AK47 on the left side. The easy option for them was the left one; there have been stone-throwing incidents as well. However, I wanted them to choose bat and ball," said Raina.

Pant's Sweet Video With Kids Reminds Internet Of 'Babysitter' Sledge

Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant lived up to the 'babysitter' tag once given to him by former Australia skipper Tim Paine during a recent event. In a video posted by DC on their official Instagram handle, Pant can be seen sharing a heartwarming moment with the kids of the team's overseas players in the ongoing IPL 2024. The video went viral on social media with a lot of cricket fans getting reminded of the incident that led to Paine coming up with the 'babysitter' sledge. It happened during India's tour of Australia in 2019 when Paine asked Pant whether he could babysit for him and his wife after the series has ended.

Paine later revealed that it was a strategy agreed on by the team that they felt can lead to a lapse of concentration. After the match was over, Paine's wife posted a picture on social media which showed Pant along with their children and the whole incident ended on a positive note for the cricketers.

Coming to the competition, Delhi Capitals registered a brilliant six-wicket win over Gujarat Titans in their last match with Pant producing a match-winning performance both as a batter and a wicket-keeper.

"Lots of things to be pleased about. We talked about the champion thought process and our team showed today that we can play like that and really happy to see that. [on the bowling] Definitely one of the best, it's early on in the tournament, can't say much as we can improve individually."

"The only thought process before coming on to the field was coming in a better way, that's the only thought when I was going through my rehab. The only conversation we had before the chase was - let's get it as early as possible, we lost a few run-rate points earlier and we covered it up. We just love being in Ahmedabad, we love the stadium, the vibe here and looking forward to play more matches here. We just want to enjoy our win, one at a time and move forward learning from it," Pant said after the game," Pant said after the game.

"Bahut Hi...": Dhoni's Reaction On IPL Bhojpuri Commentary Is Intriguing

IPL is not just the celebration of the greatest cricketers on the planet but it is a melting pot of cultures too. Not just players from different countries, but a varied group of commentators can be seen and heard during the IPL. Nowadays, IPL is being broadcast is several languages including Gujarati, Bengali, Bhojpuri. The Bhojpuri commentary has popular actor Ravi Kishan donning a new hat. His commentary has gone viral on several occasions especially when MS Dhoni is playing.

Recently, MS Dhoni's long-time teammate Suresh Raina revealed the CSK star's reaction upon hearing Bhojpuri commentary. Dhoni hails from Jharkhand.

"MS Dhoni was discussing Bhojpuri commentary. He said, 'Bahut hi gajabe commentary kar rahe Bhojpuriya me.' (they are doing a great jop in Bhojpuri) I told him Haryanvi is also nice," Raina revealed while speaking on Jio Cinema.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the "batting template" for Chennai Super Kings' death bowling, their bowling consultant Eric Simmons has revealed, saying that strategies that succeed against him in training sessions tend to work out fine in match situations as well.

Recently, MS Dhoni slammed a four-ball 20 in IPL's El Clasico against Mumbai Indians on Sunday. MI captain Hardik Pandy was at the receiving end of his fury. Ultimately, the 20 runs scored by CSK was crucial as the side won by 20 runs

Dhoni is the "batting template" for Chennai Super Kings' death bowling, their bowling consultant Eric Simmons has revealed.

"They're looking at restricting us to under 200 and then they're suddenly facing 206 with an over like that. Every time — we live close to him — he continues to amaze us. To go out there and hit the first ball like that for six and then continue the way he does," he said.

"But he has been batting exceptionally well in the nets...just another unbelievable MS Dhoni moment," added the South African.

Simmons, a former India bowling coach, said Dhoni's calmness is worth following.

"His calmness at the wicket… we use him as a batting template when we're bowling at the death, the pre-season because he's so good at it. If we can test out our theories against him, then we know we're going to do well," he said.

‘Rust’ Armorer Is Sentenced to 18 Months for Involuntary Manslaughter

Not Dhoni, Hardik Names 'Difference Maker' Who Won CSK The Game vs MI

Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya feels Matheesha Pathirana turned out to be the "difference" in the IPL's 'El Clasico,' which ended with the Chennai Super Kings emerging triumphant. In the clash of heavyweights, which turned out to be a high-scoring run-fest, CSK turned it up a notch to clinch a 20-run victory at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday in the ongoing IPL. After the opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan bashed CSK in the powerplay, it was Pathirana who made the difference in the 8th over.

He brought an end to the 70-run stand by dismissing Kishan and then sending Suryakumar Yadav for a two-ball duck following a moment of brilliance in the field by Mustafizur Rahman.

"Definitely it was gettable. But I think they bowled pretty well, Pathirana was the difference. He came and got the wickets, at the same time they were also quite smart with their approach. They used the longer boundary well," Haridk said after the game.

"It was about batting well and keeping our intent, which we did till Pathirana came in. We were on course to get the total, those couple of wickets [in his first over] we lost set us back. From there we were chasing the game," he added.

CSK had a number of players using variation to exploit conditions and bag wickets. Shardul Thakur was among those, but he got smacked all over the park. He ended up conceding 33 runs in his first three overs.

Even Mustafizur Rahman struggled to find his rhythm and conceded 55 runs in his four-over spell. However, Shardul came back to concede just two runs in his final over and make the equation 77 off 36.

Tushar Deshpande followed it up by removing skipper Pandya, which turned the equation to 72 off 24.

"They were smart with the plans and their approach. They got the hang of it, there's a man behind the stumps (Dhoni) who tells them what's working, that helps. It (pitch) was holding up a bit and getting difficult," Pandya added.

Coming to the match, MI put CSK to bat after winning the toss. CSK soared high with valiant knocks from Shivam Dube (66*) and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (69). MS Dhoni added the finishing touches with his short cameo, powering CSK to 206/4.

In reply, Rohit Sharma stuck a rollicking 105* but failed to get MI across the finishing line.

Leverkusen End Bayern's Bundesliga Dominance, Claim Maiden Title

Bayer Leverkusen lifted the Bundesliga title for the first time in their 120-year history on Sunday, a 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen breaking Bayern Munich's 11-year stranglehold on the German top flight. Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen knew victory would secure the title with five games to spare, but there were no signs of nerves in a dominant performance. A hat-trick from Florian Wirtz and goals from Victor Boniface and Granit Xhaka extended their unbeaten run to a stunning 43 games in all competitions. Leverkusen's maiden title, coming after five second-place finishes in their history, keeps their dream of a remarkable treble alive while shedding their unwanted 'Neverkusen' nickname for good.

With 10 minutes to go, the long-suffering fans began making their way to the sidelines and a few jumped the gun, storming the pitch with the match still ongoing.

Leverkusen's players ushered the fans back and some obliged, albeit briefly, with the stands swiftly emptying on the 90-minute mark as tearful fans made their way onto the grass to celebrate with the players.

Leverkusen are now on 79 points -- the best tally after 29 games in German league history -- and are 16 clear of second-placed Bayern and third-placed Stuttgart.

The Leverkusen bus arrived at the stadium 90 minutes before kick-off, wading through a sea of fans clad in black and red on the way to the 30,000-capacity BayArena.

Normally known as Bismarck Street, fans had stuck temporary signs saying 'Xabi Alonso Street' along the main road in honour of the club's coach.

Alonso looked ahead to Thursday's Europa League trip to London to face West Ham, making seven changes to his starting XI and benching stars Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Alex Grimaldo, the latter for the first time in the league this season.

Piero Hincapie, Grimaldo's replacement, had an early effort at goal saved but it would be the fit-again Boniface, making his first start since mid-December, who put the home side in front.

With 22 minutes gone, Jonas Hofmann was felled in the box by Bremen's Julian Malatini, with the referee pointing to the spot after VAR urged him to view the contact again on the monitor.

Boniface stepped up and nervelessly slotted the penalty past a helpless Michael Zetterer to send the home fans into raptures.

Hofmann was almost the provider again shortly before half-time, his pass finding Amine Adli who fired against the crossbar.

Bremen started the second-half strongly but their hopes of spoiling the party were snuffed out on the 60-minute mark, Boniface finding Xhaka who unleashed a long-range rocket before slapping his badge in front of the ecstatic home fans.

Wirtz, who came on at half-time for Adli, replicated Xhaka's effort eight minutes later from almost the same spot on the pitch.

Wirtz added another with seven minutes remaining before sealing his hat-trick in the 90th minute as Leverkusen rid themselves of their nearly men tag in style.

Earlier on Sunday, a 36th-minute goal from Ritsu Doan took Freiburg to a 1-0 win at Darmstadt, pushing the last-placed hosts closer to immediate relegation.

Winless since October and with only two victories all year, the loss leaves Darmstadt dead last, eight points from second-last and 13 points from safety with five games remaining.

No Ishan Kishan In Mohammad Kaif's India Playing XI For T20 World Cup

With less than two months left for the T20 World Cup 2024, the discussion about India's squad for the tournament has picked up a lot of pace. While the core team is almost certain, there are some spots that are there for the grabing in the team. Experts and former cricketers have already stated putting forward their opinions regarding the players they think should be chosen for the mega event. Ex-India batter Mohammad Kaif too has picked his India XI and interestingly, omitted swashbuckling opener Ishan Kishan. Rising pace sensational Mayank Yadav also failed to find a spot in the playing XI.

Kaif instead went with Yashasvi Jaiswal as an opener with India captain Rohit Sharma for the upcoming tournament. He picked the team on Star Sports' show 'Follow The Blues' as quoted by Sportskeeda.

"Yashasvi Jaiswal will open alongside Rohit Sharma. Then Virat Kohli at No. 3, Suryakumar Yadav at No. 4, Hardik Pandya at No. 5, and Rishabh Pant at No. 6," said Kaif.

To make sure there is enough batting firepower in the team, Kaif opted to pick more and more all-rounders.

"I will keep a lot of all-rounders because you need batting depth. So I will say Axar Patel at No. 7 and Ravindra Jadeja at No. 8. After that, Kuldeep Yadav, who is a skillful bowler, at No. 9. Then two fast bowlers - Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh. That makes it your XI," Kaif explained.

The T20 World Cup 2024 will kick off on June 1 with a match between United States and Canada in Texas. Meanwhile, the high-octane encounter between India and Pakistan will be played in New York on June 9.

A total of 20 teams will be participating in the tournament with four groups of five-team each. The semi-finals of the tournament will be played on June 25 and 27 while the summit clash will be played on June 29.

IPL 2024: RR Brave Accurate PBKS Bowlers, Slow Pitch To Register Win

Rajasthan Royals struggled against Punjab Kings bowlers who took the pace off the ball cleverly on a sticky pitch but found enough steam to eke out a hardworking three-wicket win in their IPL 2024 match at Mullanpur on Saturday. The target was a rather easy-looking 148 but a set of spot-on Punjab bowlers and a tacky surface made the task of Royals tough before they made 152 for seven. The Rajasthan outfit required 49 runs off the last five overs, but they had to wait till the penultimate ball of the match to get over the line despite having power-hitters like Rovman Powell (11, 5b) and Shimron Hetmyer (27 not out, 10b, 1x4, 3x6) in their ranks.

That equation came down to 10 off the final six balls after Hetmyer moussed Harshal Patel for a six and four, which the West Indian left-hander realised through a couple of sixes off pacer Arshdeep Singh in the last over.

The Royals began their chase sedately through Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tanush Kotian without any real scoreboard pressure behind them.

However, Kotian, who was batting so up in the order in T20s for the first time, did not find his flow but still assisted Jaiswal to add 56 in 8.2 overs.

But his effort to hammer Liam Livingstone out of the ground ended up in him losing his leg-stump.

Jaiswal, who played a delectable flick off Kagiso Rabada, looked on course to end a string of low scores in this IPL.

But a rather needless uppercut off Rabada was grabbed by Harshal Patel near third man as Rajasthan looked a tad wobbly.

Their woes deepened when skipper Sanju Samson, who had earlier broken the manacles with a six and four off Livingstone, was trapped leg-before by Rabada in his last over.

Samson could not connect with a slightly low, incoming delivery from Rabada, and the ball pinged his backfoot and even the DRS could not save him.

Earlier, Rajasthan bowlers under Avesh (2/34) and Maharaj (2/23) exploited a sticky pitch to the hilt to restrict Punjab Kings to an underwhelming total.

Ashutosh Sharma (31, 16b), Jitesh Sharma (29, 24b) and Livingstone (21, 14b) tried to force the pace but Punjab needed more than those pretty little cameos.

But the Kings had a rather quick start to their innings with 26 runs coming in the first three overs as Atharva Taide, who came in for injured skipper Shikhar Dhawan, hammered a couple of fours off pacer Kuldeep Sen.

But the brakes were soon applied as Taide's mistimed pull off Avesh ended in the hands of Sen inside the circle.

Thereafter the Punjab batters struggled to muster any sort of momentum on a pitch that gripped a bit, especially for left-arm spinner Maharaj and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.

However, a slice of credit should also go to veteran pacer Trent Boult who conceded just 15 runs in his three power play overs.

The last three power play overs fetched only 10 runs for Kings as they ended that passage on a modest 38 for one.

In the next five overs, the hosts struggled to hit even one boundary as they laboured to 53 for four in 10 overs, losing Jonny Bairstow, stand-in-skipper Sam Curran and Prabhsimran Singh, all consumed by the combination of a slow deck and accurate spinners.

Their biggest hope could have been the range-hitting ability of in-form Shahshank Singh but a feeble pull off Sen could not progress beyond Jurel at mid-wicket.

With the cream of top-order failing to contribute anything significant, PBKS required some hefty hand from Livingstone and Jitesh to get to even a par score.

Sharma showed some intent too, clobbering Chahal for a gorgeously timed six over extra over, and later sent Sen for a six to the straight fence before getting out to Avesh.

Livingstone, who creamed Sen for a six and four off successive balls through mid-wicket, and Ashutosh, who smoked Avesh for two sixes in the 19th over, helped PBKS add 61 runs in the last five overs, but their effort came a wee bit late.

Rajasthan Royals defeated Punjab Kings by three wickets in their IPL match on Saturday.

Asked to bat first, Punjab Kings, who played without their injured skipper Shikhar Dhawan, didn't get any momentum in their innings with lower-order batter Ashutosh Sharma (31), Jitesh Sharma (29) and Liam Livingstone (21) managing to take the team close to the 150-mark.

In reply, RR huffed and puffed their way to the victory target of 148 with a ball to spare, thanks to Shimron Hetmyer's 10-ball 27 after Yashasvi Jaiswal (39), Tanush Kotian (24), Riyan Parag (23) frittered away starts.

Kagiso Rabada (2/18) was the best bowler for Punjab with his two wickets.

For RR, Keshav Maharaj (2/23) and Avesh Khan (2/34) picked up two wickets each, while Trent Boult (1/22), Kuldeep Sen (1/35) and Yuzvendra Chahal (1/31) bagged one each.

Ex-SRH Coach's Epic Reply When Asked About Ishan Kishan IPL Auction Regret

Ishan Kishan boosted his T20 World Cup selection hopes with a brisk 69 off just 34 balls for Mumbai Indians (MI) in their IPL 2024 match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Prior to this encounter, Kishan had scored just 92 runs in four matches and his knock against RCB will certainly boost his confident for the rest of the season. A fan, however, had an interesting auction related question for former SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Tom Moody that involved the name of Kishan.

The fan asked Moody whether he regrets for not bidding more than 15 crore for Kishan during the IPL 2022 mega auction.

For the unversed, Kishan was released by MI ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction. However, the five-time champions bought him once again at the auction table, this time for a whopping Rs 15.25 crore sum.

MI were involved in a bidding war with SRH for Kishan, but the 2016 champions pulled out of race after the bidding crossed the Rs 15 crore mark.

"Does Tom regret not going for Ishan Kishan for more than 15 crore in the auction for SRH," the fan asked him during a discussion on ESPNcricinfo.

Moody, who was at the table for SRH that day, came up with a hilarious response to tackle the fans query.

"Gentleman, I wasn't holding the paddle," Moody replied.

Meanwhile, Kishan needs a strong performance in this season's IPL to regain the faith of the selectors.

He was recently let go off his BCCI central contract over his reluctance to play in the Ranji Trophy.

This came after Kishan had pulled out of the South Africa Tests last year, citing fatigue.

The 25-year-old was not considered for any of the subsequent national assignments, and India head coach Rahul Dravid had urged Kishan to play domestic cricket to make his comeback.

Speaking on his T20 World Cup selection chances, Kishan recently said: "It is not in my hands and I am taking things very easy right now. You have to take one match at a time. One needs to understand that a lot is not in the hands of the players."

IPL 2024: Marcus Stoinis, Yash Thakur Shine As LSG Beat GT By 33 Runs

All-rounder Marcus Stoinis' fine half-century was complimented brilliantly by pacer Yash Thakur's fifer as they guided Lucknow Super Giants to a comfortable 33-run win over Gujarat Titans in their IPL 2024 match on Sunday. Opting to bat, LSG rode on Stoinis' 58 off 43 balls and his 73-run stand off 62 balls with skipper KL Rahul (33 off 31) for the third wicket to score 163 for 5. Nicholas Pooran made 32 off 22 balls to give the LSG innings the final flourish. It was a torrid chase for GT with Thakur (5/30) and Krunal Pandya (3/11) sharing eight wickets between them, and they were bowled out for 130 in 18.5 overs.

Opener B Sai Sudharsan (31 off 23) opened up his arms in the second over and struck Naveen-ul-Haq for two boundaries in the second over.

Sudharsan was at his attacking best as he caressed pace sensation Mayank Yadav past mid-off off his first delivery.

He followed that up with another four through midwicket. If that was not enough GT skipper Shubman Gill (19) struck another four to end Mayank's over that yielded 13 runs.

Mayank, who impressed all with bowling 150 kmph thunderbolts consistently in the last two games, couldn't even reach 140 kmph tonight and left the field with a side strain after his first over.

He did not return to the field thereafter. Gill, however, didn't last long as he was cleaned up by Thakur in the sixth over.

While Sudharsan held one end, wickets kept tumbling at the other end in the form of Kane Williamson, who hit a tossed up delivery from Ravi Bishnot straight back to the spinner.

Krunal struck twin blows in the ninth over to peg back LSG's chase.

He first ended Sudharsan's entertaining knock as the batter top-edged one to Bishnoi at deep mid-wicket and then three balls later accounted for BR Sharath as LSG slumped to 61 for 4.

Krunal continued to trouble LSG as Darshan Nalkande became his next victim, caught by Thakur at short-fine leg as he went for a big shot.

Vijay Shankar made a run-ball 17 but it was not enough as GT simply couldn't forge substantial partnerships to win the match.

Tewatia (30 off 25) also played a good hand but it came too late. Earlier, it was an eventful first over from Umesh Yadav (2/22) as, after being dispatched over deep backward square leg boundary by in-form Quinton de Kock in the second ball of the innings, he got his man a ball later.

De Kock went for a similar shot to get an outside edge and Noor Ahmad took a smart catch at the third man.

In the first ball of his next over, Umesh was pulled by Devdutt Padikkal to square leg fence but the pacer got his revenge inducing an outside edge from the left-hander and Shankar made no mistake at slip as GT slid to 18 for 2 after three overs.

Rahul, however, went about his business in a quiet fashion, plucking three boundaries off Spencer Johnson with delightful strokes through the square and straight down the ground to pick up 13 runs off the fourth over.

Rahul found an able ally in Stoinis as they played cautiously, dispatching bad deliveries to the fence and stabilised LSG's innings.

Rahul was in good touch but just when he looked to spice up the run-rate, the right-hander perished.

The right-hander went for a huge heave down the ground off Nalkande, but mistimed the hit and Tewatia took a fine catch at long-on in the 13th over.

Stoinis got a reprieve on 43 and the Australian cashed in on the chance with both hands, clobbering Nalkande over his head for a maximum and in the process brought up his fifty in 40 balls.

Stoinis then cleared Nalkande over wide long on for another six but the young bowler had the last laugh as he got his man in the next ball, caught by wicket-keeper Sharath as the batter went for another maximum.

Pooran's cameo took LSG to a par total.

Rohit's Three-Word Post Goes Viral After MI's First Victory In IPL 2024

Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma took to social media to post a three-word message following Mumbai Indians' first victory in the ongoing IPL 2024. MI completely outplayed Delhi Capitals to beat the Rishabh Pant-led side by 29 runs and register their first points in the tournament. There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the franchise's decision to appoint Hardik Pandya as the skipper in place of Rohit and the three-match losing run did not help matters. However, after the win, Rohit posted some pictures from the match on X (formerly Twitter) along with the caption - "Off the mark".

There was some reprieve for Hardik Pandya at last as the Mumbai Indians' captain did not face crowd hostility at the Wankhede Stadium  during their IPL clash against Delhi Capitals on Sunday.

With the stands mostly filled with around 18,000 children from various NGOs as the match was being played on the ESA (Education and Sports for All) day for the Reliance Foundation, the noise was all about cheering for the home team.

Pandya had hitherto been booed and subjected to fans' anger in the first three matches played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad as well as the Wankhede.

The 29-year-old Pandya became the target of fans inside the stadiums as well as off it on social media ever since he left his former franchise Gujarat Titans to rejoin Mumbai Indians, replacing Rohit Sharma as the skipper of the five-time IPL winning side.

Before Sunday's game, former India captain and ex BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had urged the fans to stop booing Pandya, saying that it was not the player's fault that he was brought back into the side as captain.

"I don't think they should boo Hardik Pandya. It's not correct," Ganguly told the media on Saturday during Delhi Capitals' training session.

"The franchisee has appointed him as captain. It's not Hardik's fault that he's been appointed as captain. All of us need to understand that.

"Obviously, with Rohit Sharma he's a different class. His performance for this franchise, his performance for India has been at a different level as captain and as a player," added Ganguly, who is also the director of cricket for Delhi Capitals.

Pandya was booed throughout Mumbai Indians' first home game against Rajasthan Royals here on April 1, when former India and Mumbai cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar had urged the fans to 'behave' when he was conducting the toss.

IPL 2024: Virat Kohli Ton In Vain As RR Beat RCB By 6 Wickets

Jos Buttler roared back to form with a masterful century that overshadowed Virat Kohli's record-extending 113 as Rajasthan Royals defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six wickets for a fourth win in as many matches in the IPL on Saturday. Royals now have four wins out of four and sit on top of 10 team table while RCB slipped to eighth spot with fourth defeat and three on trot. While Kohli enhanced his status as RCB's lone ranger by notching up his eighth IPL century but RCB could only manage a below-par 183/3 after the home side opted to bowl.

Then, the England white-ball skipper in his 100th IPL appearance chose to ruin Kohli's evening by playing a knock that was way better compared to former India skipper's effort both in intent and quality.

Buttler, who ended IPL 2023 with three successive ducks and scored a highest of 13 in his last three innings, anchored the chase with five balls to spare.

Buttler finished the chase with a six off Cameron Green over deep square leg in the last over that also notched up his sixth IPL century.

His effort came off just 58 balls, laced with nine fours and four sixes.

Skipper Sanju Samson gave a fine support to Buttler in a record 148-run partnership -- the highest of the season -- that virtually killed the contest.

Samson ended up with 69 runs from 42 balls with eight fours and two sixes. Rajasthan Royals now are on the top of the table with eight points, ahead of Kolkata Knight Riders on net run-rate.

On a day, Rajasthan Royals spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal (2/34) and Ravichandran Ashwin (0/28) turned it around for the home side, by choking RCB in the middle overs, RCB bowling looked woefully short.

The likes of Mayank Dagar and Himanshu Sharma failed to make any dent to the Royals' chase.

As it turned out, Chahal, who was released by RCB before the IPL 2022 auction, came to prove the difference against his former side.

Following a watchful start, Buttler made his intention clear in the last over of the power play when he picked rookie left-arm spinner Dagar to unleash his fury.

He punched him firmly for a boundary with his silken timing, and then smashed him for four, six and another four in a 20-run over.

From being 10 from 10 balls at the start, Buttler raced to his fifty from just 30 balls -- which was nine balls lesser than what Kohli took for his milestone.

For Buttler the 20th IPL fifty came after a long wait of eight innings.

The Englishman read the length well, dished out his silken cover drives, and lofted over the bowlers' head by playing late to boss the RCB bowling that looked ordinary.

Samson also stepped it up in Dagar's second over, the 11th of the innings, spanking him for two fours and one six with an inside out loft shot to notch his second fifty this season.

The fifty came in just 33 balls for the Royals skipper as the duo bossed the chase in their century-plus partnership.

Siraj finally gave the much-needed breakthrough dismissing Sanju in the 15th over but by then the chase was just a formality, reducing the equation to 32 needed from last five overs.

Earlier, Kohli smashed 12 fours and four sixes and barring the assistance received from his skipper Faf Du Plessis (44 from 33 balls; 2x4, 2x6), he did not get any support from the other batters.

After reaching his fifty in 39 balls, Kohli stepped up well and took just 28 balls for his next fifty as he reached the milestone with a single off Nandre Burger in the penultimate over.

Glenn Maxwell (1) and debutant left-hander Saurav Chauhan (9), who failed to replicate his Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 form, fell cheaply.

Credit should go to RR spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin (0/28) and Chahal (2/34) who stifled the proceedings in the middle overs.

Chahal was exceptional as he cleverly deceived the batters with his pace and variations by bowling googlies and sliders to fox the RCB batters. While Kohli did score a hundred, he could never really dominate the bowling and in the end the hundred mattered very little.
