Ex-RCB Star Alleges Match-Fixing In Kolkata League Cricket. CAB Responds
Wicketkeeper-batter Shreevats Goswami, who was a member of the 2008 Under-19 World Cup-winning team, on Thursday alleged that a match in the Cricket Association of Bengal's (CAB) first division league seemed fixed from the manner in which some dismissals took place during the game. Goswami shared videos of a game between Mohammedan Sporting and Town Club on his Facebook page. He alleged that Mohammedan Sporting batters seemed to be intentionally getting out to concede seven points to Town Club which is associated with former Team India manager Debabrata Das, who is the current CAB secretary. Das was the Indian tam's administrative manager during the tour of England in 2022.
"This is a Super Division match in Kolkata Club Cricket, two big teams doing this, any idea what's going on here??" Goswami posted.
In the first video, a right-handed batter is seen leaving the ball coming straight to his stumps as he then walked off the field.
In the second video, a left-hander came out of the crease to an wide delivery to be stumped.
While Debabrata Das was not available for a reaction, CAB president Snehasish Ganguly said they have sought the umpires' and observer's report.
"We have called a tournament committee meeting on March 2 to take up the matter," Snehasish Ganguly said.
The 34-year-old Goswami called the match a case of 'got up' cricket, an informal description for rigged proceedings.
"I am ashamed to see this having played the game which is so close to my heart. I love cricket and I love playing in Bengal but looking at this breaks my heart.
"Club cricket is heart and soul of Bengal cricket please don't ruin it. I think this is called 'got up' cricket. Where is the media now?" Goswami, who also played for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, added.
The three-day match got over at the 22 Yards Academy in Salt Lake with Town Club securing seven points on Wednesday.
Shakib Habib Gandhi's 223 steered Town Club to 446.
In reply, Mohammaden Sporting made 281/9 with Joyjit Basu top-scoring with a 100. Sporting collapsed after Basu's departure.

Not Only Iyer And Kishan, These 4 Veterans Axed Too From BCCI Contracts
The out-of-favour duo of Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were excluded after ignoring the directive to play Ranji Trophy, while skipper Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli expectedly retained their place in the top bracket as the BCCI unveiled its centrally-contracted players for this year on Wednesday. The 25-year-old Kishan did not turn up for Jharkhand throughout the team's campaign in Ranji Trophy despite not being on national duty since leaving from the tour of South Africa in December citing personal reasons. He has instead focussed on preparing for the IPL next month.
Iyer, on the other hand, did not make himself available for Mumbai's Ranji quarterfinal against Baroda after being excluded from the Indian team after the second Test against England. He, however, has been picked for the Ranji semifinals starting March 2.
While announcing the central contracts for 2023-24, the BCCI once again advised all India cricketers to play domestic games when not on national duty.
"Please note that Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were not considered for the annual contracts in this round of recommendations," said the BCCI in a statement.
"The BCCI has recommended that all athletes give precedence to participating in domestic cricket during periods when they are not representing the national team," the board added.
Their exclusion can be seen as a stern message to young players unwilling to put in the hard yards in first-class cricket, while chasing white-ball glory and lucrative IPL contracts.
Rohit, Kohli, pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja were retained in the A plus category, the highest bracket of the BCCI's central contracts list.
Six cricketers feature in the A category including senior off-spinner R Ashwin, who will be playing his 100th Test next week, when India takes on England in the fifth and final game. Ashwin recently became only second Indian bowler after formr captain Anil Kumble to take cross 500 wickets in Tests.
Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya are the others to feature in the A category.
Siraj, who was in the B category previously, has been promoted while Axar Patel has moved down from A to B.
Others in the B category are Suryakumar Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has had a stellar start to his international career.
Pant was in the A category last year but finds himself in B in the latest contracts having not played any cricket since his horrific accident in December 2022.
As many as 15 were handed C category contracts including Rinku Singh, Tilak Verma, Ruturaj Gaekwad, Shardul Thakur, Shivam Dube, Ravi Bishnoi, Jitesh Sharma, Washington Sundar, Mukesh Kumar, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, KS Bharat, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan and Rajat Patidar.
Cricketers who end up playing a minimum of three Tests or eight ODIs or 10 T20Is within the specified period are automatically included in Grade C on a pro-rata basis.
For instance, Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan, having played two Test matches so far, will be inducted in Grade C after they take part in the fifth and final game against England in Dharamsala beginning March 7.
Pujara, Chahal, Dhawan dropped
The big names who have lost their contracts include Cheteshwar Pujara, Shikhar Dhawan, Umesh Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, who all have fallen out of favour with the selectors.
It signals the end of the road for the likes of Pujara but the 33-year-old Chahal can still make a case for himself if he plays more games.
The selection committee has also recommended fast bowling contracts for Akash Deep, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal and Vidwath Kaverappa. This system has been place since 2021-22 but it is for the first time that the BCCI has officially released names of the selected players.
Akash Deep had impressed on debut in the recent fourth Test against England, which India won to seal the series.
In a departure from the norms, the BCCI this time has not mentioned the remuneration of the players across the four categories.
Cricketers are normally paid Rs 7 crore per annum in A plus bracket, Rs 5 crore in A, Rs 3 crore in B and Rs one crore in C category, over and above their match fees.
Central contracts for 2023-24: Grade A+: Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja.
Grade A: R Ashwin, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya.
Grade B: Surya Kumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Grade C: Rinku Singh, Tilak Verma, Ruturaj Gaekwad, Shardul Thakur, Shivam Dube, Ravi Bishnoi, Jitesh Sharma, Washington Sundar, Mukesh Kumar, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, KS Bharat, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan and Rajat Patidar.
Fast bowling contracts: Akash Deep, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal and Vidwath Kaverappa.

CSK Pacer Makes History, Breaks 78-Year-Old Record With Ranji Trophy Ton
Mumbai fast bowler Tushar Deshpande, who plays for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL), made history on Tuesday as he slammed a brilliant century at No. 11 during the Ranji Trophy match against Baroda. Deshpande ended up scoring 123 off 129 balls - the highest score by an Indian No. 11 batter in first-class cricket. The record previously belonged to Shute Banerjee who scored 121 while batting at No. 11 for India during a tour match against Surrey during the tour of England in 1946.
Multiple records tumbled on Tuesday as Tanush Kotian and Deshpande became the first No. 10 and No. 11 batters to score centuries in the history of Ranji Trophy. Both batters looked in fine touch as they ended up adding a massive 232 runs for the final wicket in the Ranji Trophy quarter-final.
The partnership ended when Deshpande was dismissed while Kotian remained unbeaten on 120 off 129 deliveries. From 337/9, the pair was able to take Mumbai to a mammoth total of 569.
While this was a first in Ranji Trophy, Kotian and Deshpande were the second pair to achieve this feat in first-class cricket. Back in 1946, Chandu Sarwate and Shute Banerjee were the first No.10 and No. 11 pairs to score centuries during a tour-match for India against English county side Surrey.
Overall, this was also the third time that an Indian batting pair was able to add 200 runs or more for the final wicket. Sarwate and Banerjee added 249 runs while the duo of Ajay Sharma and Maninder Singh added 233 runs for the final wicket against Bombay in the 1991-92 Ranji Trophy semifinal.

ACA Initiates Inquiry Against Vihari After Revelations About Mistreatment
The bitter spat between Hanuma Vihari and Andhra Cricket Association took a fresh turn as the state body on Monday announced an inquiry against the senior batter, who had accused the ACA of forcing him to resign from captaincy at the start of the ongoing season. Drama unfolded after Andhra's campaign in the Ranji Trophy ended in a defeat on Monday as Vihari announced that he will never play for the side due to "mistreatment" by the state association.
“Complaints were received from teammates, support staff and ACA administrators about Vihari's use of foul language and abusive behaviour. ACA will conduct a thorough inquiry into all complaints and the due course of action will be communicated,” said the ACA in a media release.
Vihari had also hit out at a reserve team-mate (son of a politician) who he alleged had asked his father to take action against him after the veteran player shouted at him during a match.
ACA stated that it had received a complaint from the junior player about Vihari at that time.
“It has come to our attention that Mr Vihari personally verbally abuse a specific player during the Bengal Ranji game in front of everyone. The affected player filed an official compliant with the ACA,” the release said.
Vihari had shared the copy of his statement on his X account signed by other players in the Andhra team with a one-line comment -- "the whole team knows (what had happened on that day)." "Sad part is the association thinks that players have to listen to whatever they say and players are there because of them (association). I've decided that I'll never play for Andhra where I lost my self-respect.
"I love the team. I love the way we're growing every season but the association doesn't want us to grow," Vihari wrote on Instagram.
The middle-order batter, who has played 16 Tests for India, started the season as Andhra captain but stepped down after the first match against last year's runners-up Bengal.
Ricky Bhui led the team for the rest of the season.
At the time, Vihari attributed his decision to move away from leadership role due to "personal reasons" but now the right-handed batter said the association had asked him to resign.
"I was the captain in the first game against Bengal, during that game I shouted at the 17th player and he complained to his dad (who is a politician), his dad in return asked the association to take action against me.
"I was asked to resign from captaincy without any fault of mine. I never said anything on a personal note to the player," said Vihari.
But the ACA said the decision to appoint a new captain was taken in view of Vihari's possible non-availability because of him being an India prospect.
Later the player in question, KN Prudhvi Raj, took to Instagram and accused Vihari of making false claims.
"Hello everyone! I'm that guy, you guys are searching in the comment box, whatever you guys heard is absolutely false, no one is higher than the game and my self-respect is much bigger than anything.
"Personal attacks and vulgar language are unacceptable in any kind of human platform. Everyone in the team knows what happened that day…Mr so called champion. Play this sympathy game however you want," wrote Prudhvi.
Vihari has also expressed grouse that the association did not value his sacrifices for the team over the years, recalling last year's Ranji Trophy quarterfinal match against Madhya Pradesh when he played through an injury.
"The association thought that player was more important than the guy who gave his body on the line last year and batted left-handed, took Andhra to knock outs 5 times in the last 7 years and played for India in 16 Tests.
"I felt embarrassed but the only reason I continued playing this season was because I respect the game and my team," he added.
Ahead of the 2023-2024 domestic season, Vihari was also linked with a switch to Madhya Pradesh but he decided to stay on with Andhra.
The ACA said it was Vihari who reversed the decision and decided to stay on with Andhra team.

House Sold, Savings Exhausted, Father's Love For Teen Rider Knows No Bounds
As the sporting fraternity in India witnesses the second season of the Women's Premier League, a revetting story involving a father-daughter duo unfolded in the Indian Supercross Racing League. In its inaugural season, the ISRL has unearthed a gem in the form of Aleena Shaikh Mansur who is making waves in the world of motorsports at the tender age of 13 as a rider for the SG Speed Racers. Seeking inspiration from her father, who has been her role model, coach, and advisor since the age of 8, Aleena has over 60 trophies at home, having emerged as one of the most promising young female racers in the country.
The expenses that motorsports demands know no bounds but so does the belief Aleena's father has in her. Having catered to the needs of her talent from an early stage, Aleena's father is hopeful to attract one or two sponsors for her daughter, as he hopes to continue laying the bricks of the castle the young rider wishes to build in motorsports.
In a chat with NDTV on the sidelines of the Indian Supercross Racing League in Bengaluru, Aleena's father shed light on his daughter's journey as a rider which started when she was just 8.
"Aleena was about 8 years old when she started riding. Initially, she was very much attracted to my superbike which is the Kawasaki Z800. She and my second daughter Zina both wanted to ride. So I got them to 50cc bikes. Those are Chinese bikes like I use and throw bikes. So in that she started learning how to ride. She was happy to ride and she learned the balance and she was very fast. And she wanted to race. Initially, I told her let's practice some more.
"Then we purchased her a Kawasaki KLX 110, on which she practiced for 3 months. Then I sent her photos and videos to MRF hoping to participate in the national championship for the junior category. But, I was informed Kawasaki is not compatible. Then we got a KTMSX50 which has a better suspension and is a two-stroke bike for kids," he said.
"Then we moved to KTMSX50 and we practiced more because we were practicing in the flat tracks initially. Slowly, we started going to the invitational races and also the MRF national championship supercross, and even the MRF national dirt track championship as well. Now, she has more than 60 trophies in the last 4 years," Aleena's father said as he highlighted the talent his daughter has.
Balancing School Life And Motorsports
For a child of the age of 13, practicing motorsports along with keeping a healthy school life is difficult. Injuries in the sport make Aleena miss school for weeks, sometimes months too. But, the father-daughter duo is happy that the school is considerate of their situation.
"Alena, at present, is carrying multiple injuries. Because of the injuries, we wasted 18 months to 24 months. To manage her injuries, we give her rest for at least six months. we had to give her a gap and rest then physiotherapy then slowly we started coming back to the races. But, we are not pushing her much so that she doesn't get injured because after 10 days we have MRF national Supercross Championship round one so we're just trying to keep it safe this season.
"As far as her studies are concerned, she goes to school at 8 AM and comes back around four. She does all that a normal school-going child does. However, she does have difficulties whenever we take leaves to go to the race or during multiple-day practices for big events. To cover up, we are giving her extra classes. The school is not objecting because it's a matter of pride for them as she's representing them," he asserted.
In a nation that loves cricket to the core, making a career in motorsports is tough, especially because of the influx of money it demands. While Aleena's father can't afford a coach to help his child hone her skills, she is learning the technical aspects of the sport himself, through YouTube and other online platforms, to ensure the child doesn't go off-track.
From A Father To A Coach
"It's a long journey for us because in India cricket is one thing where everyone runs behind, even I have been a cricketer in the past.
"This particular sport it's very risky and you need one person all the time with her to travel at the same time to be with her during the practice sessions because we don't have a dedicated coach as we can't afford to have a dedicated coach. What I do is I learned from Instagram as there are multiple academies like we have Glen Helen, we have Fox Raceway, we have MTFX, we have Moto Academy, and based on those videos I try to grasp the particular ideas of the techniques about how she has to ride, where she needs to improve then I guide her verbally and she also looks at those videos. That is one challenge we are facing," he said.
"I work as a project program management advisor in an IT firm. In this sport, since it's a very expensive sport, I have taken out almost my 20 years of Provident Fund just to buy her bikes and very expensive safety gear because she is a girl child and we don't have sponsors to get her trained properly.
No Cheat Meals For Aleena
Fitness is also at the top of her father's list, with Aleena mostly relying on an easily digestible diet during events and protein-rich food while back home.
"I have told her there is nothing like boys or girls or male or female. The man and the machine. So it's a machine either a woman or a girl or a boy or a man comes and gives a throttle the bike will go. So it's about the machine and how you handle that machine it's up to you.
"When you're 30 plus if you're very fit then definitely you can go up to 35 or 40. But if you're not fit it's not so fitness and diet and focus on the game when you're there. What we do is we give a lot of soft diet, especially during practice and races.
"We don't give any hard food much because when you take jumps you feel like vomiting sometimes if you have a lot of hard food inside if it's not digested. So she practices and also races only on a soft diet and at home, she takes non-vegetarian food. We try to give her a good amount of protein, milk, and all such stuff but no oily food. No cheat meals for her," he highlighted.
The Financial Hardships
Staring at a severe financial crunch, Aleena's father is keeping his fingers crossed as he hopes to fetch a sponsor for the young rider and help her with the push her talent deserves in a ruthless sport like motocross.
"What we are looking for is a company that can sponsor because I alone as the father of Aleena, finding very difficult within my salary to support her, to get a bike or proper training in terms of racing or in terms of fitness to send her to the gym because we also have a family to take care. I alone have to take care of my mother's medication, I'm diabetic and I need to take care of my medication and I have three daughters as well.
"I am finding it very very difficult and I also sold my six hundred square feet house as well because my debts were increasing the personal loans were increasing.
"We do not have sponsors. Yes, it is very difficult for us to continue further but we are doing our best. Any company or any person who is interested in motorsports can help this girl child get trained properly and also perform in national as well as international races and represent India," he concluded.

"Hindi Nahi Aati": Sarfaraz Mocks Bashir, England Star's Reply Is Viral
A lighthearted exchange between India batter Sarfaraz Khan and England spinner Shoaib Bashir has taken the internet by storm. The incident happened in the 103rd over of England's first innings when Bashir came out to bat, following Ollie Robinson's dismissal. As Bashir was taking his guard, Sarfaraz decided to have a go at him, questioning the England youngster about his Hindi language skills. While Sarfaraz was confident that Bashir doesn't understand Hindi, the England star caught him off guard with his response.
The hilarious interactions between Sarfaraz and Bashir has gone viral on social media.
Sarfaraz Khan - Isko Hindi bhi nahi aati hai badhiya chalo (He doesn't understand Hindi).

Jadeja ended with figures of 4/67 as India bowled England out for 353.
Meanwhile, India were 34 for one at lunch. The hosts lost skipper Rohit Sharma (2) early with James Anderson dismissing him.
Yashasvi Jaiswal (27 not out) and Shubman Gill (4 not out) were at the crease during the break with India trailing by 319 runs.
Earlier, Joe Root remained unbeaten on 122 as England folded for 353 in their first innings.
Resuming at the overnight score of 302 for seven, Root and Ollie Robinson completed their century stand for the eighth wicket to take England forward.
In the process, Robinson (58 off 96) hit his maiden Test half-century.
Apart from Jadeja, Debutant Akash Deep (3/83) impressed on the first day, while Mohammed Siraj (2/78) picked up two wickets.

Klopp Is Irreplaceable, Says Liverpool Assistant Manager Lijnders
Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders says it is impossible to replace Jurgen Klopp and that the club must find someone who can develop their own dynasty. Klopp's shock decision to step down at the end of the season means owners Fenway Sports Group must find a successor for a manager who has won every club honour, bar the Europa League, during his time at Anfield. The German has the chance to add to his tally in Sunday's League Cup final against Chelsea -- one of four trophies the club could win this season. But Lijnders, who with the rest of Klopp's backroom staff is also leaving, said there was no point in trying to find someone who would be a clone of the 56-year-old, with former Liverpool midfielder and current Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso the leading candidate.
"No one can replace Jurgen Klopp. But I think the past showed already a few difficult transitions," the Dutchman said on Friday at the club's pre-match press conference.
"What was the most difficult transition inside this club was (Bill) Shankly saying 'That's me'. (Bob) Paisley stepped up (in 1974) and was completely different from Shanks.
"It shows, as a club, we have to search for someone who wants to grow, who has the mindset to develop."
There was a concern that Klopp's announcement in January could derail a team that leads the Premier League, faces Southampton in the FA Cup next week and is favourite for the Europa League, having been drawn against Sparta Prague in the last 16.
However, they have five wins in six games since then and Lijnders said that was down to the mentality within the dressing room.
"A lot of these boys didn't win anything with Liverpool yet so of course they give everything despite the manager saying he is leaving," he added.
"We are stable enough to deal with it. That's what I thought before -- but you never know. It is in the back of your mind but I, we, trust the squad enough that they can deal with that.
"We never make it more complicated than it is and I like that. It is the next game, that's our final -- and it is a final so let's give everything on this planet to win this one and give joy and emotion to the fans."

"Reminds Me Of A Young Tendulkar": Shastri's Massive Praise For India Star
Former India head coach and ex-international player Ravi Shastri was all praise for young India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal following his terrific performance against Engalnd during the third Test in Rajkot. Jaiswal, who failed with a run-a-ball 10 in India's first innings, scored big in his next opportunity. He crafted a beautiful 104-run knock before an injury forced him to retire hurt mid-way. As soon as Jaiswal raced to his third Test century on Saturday, Shastri compared his skills to that of cricket great Sachin Tendulkar.
"Impressed with the way (Yashasvi) Jaiswal has stepped up today. Not just with the bat, but his performance on the field too. I think going forward, he could be one of Rohit's go-to part-time options. The ball would be in his hands - whether it's leg-spin, off-spin or medium-pace. Jaiswal reminds me of a young Tendulkar. Busy all the time," said Shastri during commentary after Jaiswal completed his ton as quoted by Hindustan Times.
"This is a classic example of the saying 'If you believe in yourself, there is hope'. Nothing is impossible. That's just a word. He will be constantly involved," he added.
Jaiswal retired hurt after hitting an attacking century to extend India's lead over England to 322 after the tourists' batting collapse in the third Test on Saturday.
India reached 196 or 2 in their second innings at stumps on day three in Rajkot, with Shubman Gill (65) and nightwatchman Kuldeep Yadav (three) batting at the close of play.
India have been left with 10 players to bat and bowl after Ashwin left the match late Friday due to a family emergency. Devdutt Padikkal came in as substitute fielder.

Crisis-Club Napoli Held By Genoa Ahead Of Barcelona Visit
Napoli's crisis deepened on Saturday after being held to a 1-1 home draw by Genoa, another heavy blow for the ailing Serie A champions ahead of the midweek visit of Barcelona. Cyril Ngonge saved a home point for Napoli in the final minute after Morten Frendrup had given Genoa the lead with a powerful first-time finish just after half-time. Napoli ran away with the league title last season but are now 27 points behind current leaders Inter Milan in ninth spot meaning their chances of a place in next season's revamped Champions League are increasingly slim.
Six points separate Napoli from fourth-placed Atalanta and that gap could easily be extended to nine as they host struggling Sassuolo on Saturday night.
"We play well in patches and then other times we're incapable of capitalising on the chances we create," said captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo.
"We have these great fans backing us and it's up to us to get them onside again."
Ngonge's low finish meant Napoli avoided a ninth defeat in all competitions since Walter Mazzarri took over from sacked Rudi Garcia in November, but being booed off the pitch was awful preparation for their Champions League last 16 tie with Barca.
Neither Napoli nor Barca are having stellar seasons but it would have been impossible to imagine how far Napoli would fall so soon after last season's historic third league title.
Victor Osimhen should be back for Wednesday's first leg in Naples after sitting out Saturday's defeat and he will be charged with finding goals for a team struggling to score.
But Napoli's goal problems run deeper than Osimhen being at the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria and they created very little against Genoa who are 12th.
Until Ngonge levelled it was Mateo Retegui who had the best opportunities of the game, forcing excellent saves from Alex Meret with two well directed headers in the first half.
"I'm very satisfied with how the boys played, they gave everything and were really good," said Genoa coach Alberto Gilardino.
"Even when we had the ball we created good situations like the one for our goal, and we looked to get that second one."
Later on Saturday second-placed Juventus travel to Verona trying to cut the 10-point gap separating them from Inter.

Former India batter Virender Sehwag has labelled Virat Kohli as the greatest cricketer to ever play the sport. Since making his India debut in 2008, Kohli has carried the weight of Team India's batting across formats. So far, he has payed 117 Tests, 292 ODIs and 113 T20Is, amassing more than 26,000 international runs. The 35-year-old has been often compared to Sachin Tendulkar, while many have suggested that he is the greatest all-format batter of his generation. Last year during the ODI World Cup in India, Kohli broke Tendulkar's record of most ODI centuries.
Kohli smashed 117 against New Zealand in the World Cup semi-final to register his 50th ODI century, one more than Tendulkar's.
During an interaction with Sports Tak, Sehwag was asked to describe Kohli in one word. He went to call him the "greatest cricketer".
Meanwhile, Kohli has been out of action since the T20I series against Afghanistan in January 2024.
Kohli, 35, had initially withdrawn from the India team for the first two Tests of the series, citing personal reasons but later it was announced that he will miss out on the entire five-match series.
On his absence, BCCI secretary Jay Shah backed Virat Kohli's decision to miss India's ongoing Test series against England, saying he has the right to ask for personal leave.
"If a person, for the first time in a 15-year career, asks for personal leave, it's his right. Virat is not a player who will ask for leave for no reason. We need to trust our player and back him," Shah was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
"Virat Kohli will remain unavailable for selection for the remainder of the series due to personal reasons. The Board fully respects and supports Mr. Kohli's decision," said a statement from the board.
Meanwhile, when the BCCI secretary was asked whether Kohli would be part of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in June, Shah replied: "We will talk about him [soon]."

Sumit Nagal Battles Past Coleman Wong, Moves Into Quarterfinals
Sumit Nagal was put through his sternest test yet by Coleman Wong but the second seeded Indian had enough grunt in him to fight past the Hong Kong man to enter the quarterfinals of the Bengaluru Open on Thursday. Nagal won 6-2, 7-5 after an hour and 46 minutes of intense battle. But the beginning belied the struggles awaited Nagal in the later stages of the match. Nagal continued the pattern of earning an early break when he went up 2-0 in the opening set. But it was not all smooth sailing as the 26-year-old had to battle past from 0-30 down in the very next game to hold his serve.
Nagal got another break in the eighth game to bag the first set 6-2.
But the 19-year-old Wong had more fight in him in the second set.
After the first four games went by serve, the Hong Kong player broke Nagal in the fifth game, and it was the first time the Indian dropped his serve in this tournament.
Wong found his serves and ground shots going during this passage, as Nagal looked a tad perplexed by the unexpected fightback.
However, the world No. 98 broke back in the sixth game itself to restore the parity at 3-3, though it was more the result of his rival committing a couple of unforced errors.
In the seventh game, Nagal found himself 0-40 down as Wong pulled out a couple of fine winners on either flank of the court.
But Nagal lifted his game by a notch at this moment to make it a deuce and a couple of points later he managed to hold the serve to go 4-3 up.
The Indian star received a brilliant chance to close out the game in the 10th game when he went up 40-15 on Wong;s serve.
But Wong saved both the match points, hammering an ace down the middle first and followed it up with another bazooka serve that Nagal failed to retrieve from his backhand.
Wong eventually held his serve when Nagal drove a backhand into the net.
But Nagal did not miss his third match point which came in the 12th game.
Up 40-30, Nagal was pushed to a corner by Wong's strong volley, but the former champion found enough space to squeeze in a forehand cross court winner to finally walk off the court with a relived smile on his face.
Results (Singles, Pre-Quarterfinals): Sumit Nagal (2) beat Coleman Wong 6-2, 7-5, Stefano Napolitano (7) beat Vasek Pospisil 6-4 4-6 6-4, Moez Echargui beat Enrico Dalla Valle 6-2 6-2, Adam Walton (5) beat Gauthier Onclin 6-2 6-2.

Devdutt Padikkal's "Tough Few Years" Admission After Test Call Up
Karnataka batter Devdutt Padikkal was finally rewarded for his superlative form in First-Class cricket, as the selectors included him in the India squad for the 3rd Test against England. Though Padikkal's call-up came as a result of KL Rahul lacking 100% match fitness, the left-handed batter is elated to have finally been rewarded for his hard work. When asked about the call-up, the batter had no hesitation in admitting that the feeling was yet to sink in. Padikkla, however, was happy to have seen his tough run in the last few years, with regards to national selection, ending.
"The call-up is yet to sink in. The Test team is always a dream, and this has come after a tough few years. I feel very proud that all the hard work I've put in has paid off. Can't thank my family and well-wishers enough for sticking by me," said Padikkal in a chat with the Times of India.
"Returning from the illness was very tough. The biggest challenge was to get physically fit. I had lost 10 kilos and I had to eat right and concentrate on regaining muscle and strength. At this stage of my career every match counts and here I was missing a lot of games," Padikkal added.
Padikkal made his India debut in the T20I format against Sri Lanka in 2021 but he only played a couple of games. Since then, the player hasn't featured in international cricket. Subsequently, he struggled in the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy campaign but has bounced back this year.
Illness and injury issues played a large part in his underwhelming shows the last couple of years but the batter is past that.
"It was disturbing because there was a lot of competition. While it was challenging, I had to stay focused on doing well when I returned. I worked really hard. I began the season with the determination of winning as many matches as possible for Karnataka," he asserted.
Though Padikkal usually bats high up in the order, he is open to playing anywhere the team demands.
"I enjoy whatever opportunities I get. While each batting position comes with its challenges, I'm up for it because that's going to help me grow as a cricketer. It's part of my learning process," said Padikkal.

Rohit Sharma To Lead India At 2024 T20 World Cup: Jay Shah Confirms
India will be playing the T20 World Cup 2024, to be organised in the Caribbean and the USA, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, said BCCI secretary Jay Shah at an event in Rajkot on Wednesday. India have had Hardik Pandya as their full-time skipper in the shortest format but the heartbreaking loss in the final of the 2023 World Cup to Australia have reignited the murmurs of senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit returning for the T20 showpiece in June.
"In 2023 (final) at Ahmedabad, even though we did not win the World Cup after 10 straight wins, we won hearts. I want to promise you that in 2024 (T20 World Cup) in Barbados (venue for the final), under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, ham Bharat ka jhanda gaadenge (we will hoist the Indian flag)," Shah said at the end of his speech.

The Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium was on Wednesday renamed after veteran cricket administrator and former first-class cricketer Niranjan Shah.
The ceremony, held on the eve of the third Test between India and England, was attended by India head coach Rahul Dravid, skipper Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Axar Patel, members of the coaching staff and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar.
On the occasion, India cricketers Cheteshwar Pujara, Jadeja and Jaydev Unadkat were also felicitated.
Former India captains Anil Kumble and Sunil Gavaskar also felicitated players from Saurashtra who have achieved success in recent years.
Gavaskar credited Niranjan Shah for playing a vital role in turning around the fortunes of Saurashtra, who are now two-time Ranji champions.
Niranjan Shah, who played 12 first-class games from 1965 to 1975, is also a former BCCI secretary.

The junior Aussies followed the footsteps of the senior team and defeated Team India in the summit clash, denying them yet another ICC title. Earlier in November, the senior Australian team had defeated the Rohit Sharma-led side in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023. As the Australians are showing their sheer dominance in the game, they are also aspiring the young talents in their country.
Recently, a video went viral on social media, showing a three-year-old Australian kid, showing his batting prowess. The cute kid showcased his variety of shots and smashed some sixes, while imitating the style of a professional cricket.
He even celebrated his half-century by flaunting his bat and taking off his cute little hat. This adorable video went viral and left the fans in awe.
"Mini Steve Smith," wrote one user on the video.
"25.7 cr CSK right hand batsman" wrote another one.

Rohan Bopanna Sets Sight On Paris Olympics After Australian Open Triumph
The reigning Australian Open men's doubles champion Rohan Bopanna has set his sight on the Paris Olympics 2024 starting July 26 after winning his maiden men's doubles grand slam. "I think Olympics is very much in the pipeline. It is going to be amazing that we will be having a tennis team participating at Olympics but before that I have a lot of Masters series like Indian Wells, Miami then the clay court season begins. We have the French Open and Wimbledon. So, we have so many events before the Olympics. You know for tennis calendar it is pretty busy. Every week there is a tournament. So, a lot of wonderful things to look forward to and excited for the seaosn coming up," said Rohan Bopanna while speaking to ANI.
It has been more than two weeks but the feeling of winning his first Australian Open title is yet to sink in for the world no.1 doubles player who reached numero uno immediately after winning the quarter-final of Australian Open 2024.
"It has been incredible. Even though it has been couple of weeks but it feels like it was yesterday. It has been overwhelming the response. It is still sinking in to be honest. But it has been wonderful with a lot of messages. Lots of love towards this achievement of mine. I really feel proud for not only my family but well-wishers and many people I have met they have been inspired in some ways. It really feels special. I am extremely happy to achieve the number one ranking and a grand slam," said Bopanna.
Bopanna became world no.1 in men's doubles immediately after reaching the men's doubles semi-final of the Australian Open 2024 and winning the crown made it even more special.
"It is not easy actually you do not get such a response in between tournaments actually. I won that quarter-final match I knew I was going to be world no.1. So, did a lot of players. There were a lot of messages for that. I knew what was the task in hand. I don't think it would have been complete then. It would have been missing if I was world no.1 but had I not won the title then ideally there would have been mixed feelings. So, this would have been the perfect finish for the grand slam to win a grand slam title and also become world no.1 and especially if you see my record with Ebden in last year especially we have made it to semis in Wimbledon and final in US Open then winning an Australian Open then I think we derserve to be where we are today, " explained Rohan Bopanna.
The 43-year-old also credited his partner Matthew Ebden for his success as they share great chemistry on the court and have been very consistent in grand slams.
"It is a completely 50-50 percentage of sharing success. I don't think either one of us could have achieved where we are today without the other player. As much credit as I have of becoming a men's doubles champion or becoming world no.1. Its equal credit to Matthew Ebden with him being my by side I don't think I could have achieved this so you know I am really thankful that I found a wonderful partner as Matthew Ebden which we are able to build and successfully grow as a partnership. I mean you know also my coach and physio Scott and Rebecca are extremely to important people to make a major part in the growth of my journey and in the tennis front these are the three people who definitely deserve all the success as much as what I have received today. You know its equal laurels to all of them, " explained Bopanna.
When Bopanna clinched his second grand slam title after a long wait of almost seven years he exulted in joy and fell on the court in celebration. To witness this memorable moment his wife Supriya and daughter alongwith his in laws where there in Melbourne.
"It is a very very special moment, especially for Supriya who has been with me for such a long period of time travelling week in and week out has seen those disappointments and tough losses that I have been through. The sacrifices that I have made and emotionally it is tough I mean we go through so many ups and downs you know as a player and you know I think the closest people with you can see that. It was always incrdible and I am thankful that she was there to witness that victory of mine. Most importantly I was really happy that my daughter was also there to witness that grand slam title and for her she understands excatly what the magnitude of everything was. You know she asked me after the match that why I had fallen into the ground and after winning the match it was a different aspect of looking at things in a different angle, a different set of perspective. Hopefully one day she kept and understands that what this all meant to me and why that emotional side as well was there but I am really thankful that my wife and daughter were there. My in laws also were there so it was beautiful to have family because when you travel then it can get really lonely so having some family in this tournament makes a huge difference," said Bopanna.
The two-time Olympian came to India and also went to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was highly encouraged after meeting him.
"Its always encouraging for an athlete when the Prime Minister himself is meeting and supporting all the athletes from the country. I think it is a beautiful thing. You know when you have an understanding of how much spart can really make a change in the ecosystem. He is someone leading right from the front and he is constantly there to support all the athletes, meet the athletes whenever he can find time. So, I am thankful that he found little time to meet me. He was very encouraging and I mean I have heard so many wonderful things about him from other athletes. That is the first time I got to meet the honourable Prime Minister. So, I was really excited and its even more after how encouraging he is to you know to sportsmen and I got to meet the Sports Minister as well. So, that has been also amazing. Anytime sports getting a boost then it is encouraging for all the sportspersons. So, I am really thankful that this wonderful initiative has been taken up," told Bopanna.
"It makes a tremendous difference I mean sometimes you need the inspiration before going to a big event. You are prepared but we know suddenly the entire country starting from the honourable Prime Minister is also there to support you. You know tennis can get a little lonely out there at times then suddenly when you think back you are not only playing for yourself you are playing for the entire nation. A lot more people who are behind the scenes waiting and supporting you. It is very encouraging and I think thats a wonderful thing we get to see and I think all the players are really appreciative every time we meet him and get those encouraging words, " added Bopanna.
Rohan Bopanna recently met rising Indian cricketer Shubman Gill who later posted on his official Instagram handle calling him an 'Absolute Legend' on Saturday.
"I think we all grow up getting inspired by somebody. No matter what sport we are playing at the end of the day it says our name and it says India. I think thats where the inspiration comes from. I think I am really thankful that I got to meet Shubman and such encouraging words I think at the end of the day he loves to watch other sports and watch other sportspersons. So, that is really wonderful. I think we all should learn from each other and I think we should all encourage each other. That is where the sports wins and I think the sports wins here and this is what India need," said Bopanna.
India has unfortunately produced trifle grand slam champions like Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi, Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna. Bopanna feels to have more grand slam champions India as a country needs to host more future and Challenger type of tournaments to give youngsters the much-needed exposure.
"The biggest thing we need is to have tournaments in India to encourage all the athletes who are already playing here. We do not have a vehicle to get to the highest level. So, the minute we start bringing tournaments at future level, Challenger level and I am not just talking about three-four tournaments. Over 25-30 tournaments a year. So, this is what tournaments in Europe or US have got constantly and the players don't have to travel outside their country. So, this what they really need to get tournaments in India. This will get the structure that the country needs in the sport," explained Bopanna.

Hockey Pro league: India Women Outwit USA 3-1
Indian women produced a flawless effort to outwit United States 3-1 and end this leg of the Hockey Pro League on a winning note Bhubaneswar on Friday. Vandana Katariya (9th), Deepika (26th), and Samila Tete (56th) scored for the home side, while Sanne Caarls (42nd) netted the consolation goal for the USA. India started the game with an opportunity to score through a penalty corner but Deepika's drag-flick sailed wide of the post.
The USA answered back with a move of their own as Elizabeth Yeager shot from a tight angle, but India captain Savita Punia diffused the situation with a save.
But India soon found the target. Sangita Kumari ventured down the right wing and tried to find Sonika in the shooting circle but the ball bounced off the US goalkeeper.
Kealsie Robles and Katariya tapped the ball in to score India's first goal.
In the second quarter, Tete initiated a blazing run on the right wing but she couldn't find Lalremsiami in the circle and the move fizzled out.
But India pressed on for the lead. Monika threaded a pass to Katariya who shifted the ball to Deepika on the right wing and her reverse swing capped off the intricate passing sequence with a goal.
The first half ended 2-0 in India's favour.
In the third quarter, India continued to peg USA back in their own half and it wasn't long before they earned a penalty corner. However, Navneet Kaur shot just wide of the post.
With three minutes left in the quarter, Caarls picked up a loose ball outside the shooting circle and unleashed a tomahawk shot to beat ‘keeper Savita and give USA a foothold.
As the game drew to a close in the final quarter, Deepika went on a scintillating run across the left wing and crossed to Tete who deflected the ball into goal and restored India's two-goal lead.
India will now travel to Rourkela to face China on February 12.

Uday Saharan: New Captain Cool And Chip Off Old Block
During the U-19 Challenger tournament last year, India skipper Uday Saharan wasn't scoring runs and father Sanjeev was getting anxious as the national selection committee was about to pick the squad for junior Asia Cup. "I wasn't in best frame of mind as Uday wasn't scoring runs, but he would tell me, 'papa, don't worry, runs will come'. That's Uday for you. I am not saying because he is my son but at 19, he can remain uncluttered," Sanjeev, beaming with joy after his son led India to their fifth consecutive U-19 World Cup final, told PTI.
For the uninitiated, Uday plays national level cricket from Punjab but he hails from Shri Ganganagar district in Rajasthan.
"During matches, he travels from Shri Ganganagar to Bathinda which is a two-hour train journey. He is doing second year B.Com from Bathinda University. It was a friend of my mine, who suggested that Uday be shifted to Fazilka in Punjab for cricket," the father informed.
Fazilka is also Shubman Gill's village.
With one hundred and three fifties in six World Cup games so far, Punjab batter Uday is currently the highest run-getter in this edition, and his batting style resembles the 1980s and 90s' top-order accumulators.
He scores his runs at a strike rate of early 70s, something that he will need to address at senior level. As of now, it is serving the purpose.
"Uday tells me that papa jab single, double pe baat ban jaayegi toh chakka maarne ki kya zaroorat? Chakka maarna hoga toh woh bhi maar lunga (why try for sixes when I can get the job done by taking ones and twos. When the need arises, I will hit sixes too," said Sanjeev, who is an Ayurvedic doctor and a BCCI Level 1 accredited coach.
For him, technique is sacrosanct and he gave an insight into how Uday learnt to play copybook, conventional cricket.
"During my playing days, I represented my district in Rajasthan CA's biggest tournament Colvin Shield. I was known as 'Gavaskar' in my local circuit as bowlers couldn't breach my defence.
"I have taught Uday the value of technique. And as for IPL game, when he was 16, he scored 108 off 60 balls in a local district match, hitting Arshdeep Singh for sixes," the father said.
How was the mood in the Saharan household on Tuesday night when Uday was in the midst of a tense chase.
"Kya hi bolun. Uday ki didi, meri badi beti toh mandir wale ghar se nikli nahi. Woh toh roney lag gaayi thi. Meri patni ka bhateeje ki shaadi thi lekin woh bhi pura match mandir mein baithi rahi. Hum Pallu Devi maa ko bahot mante hai (My elder daughter and wife prayed the whole time and didn't step out of the temple at home. My wife didn't attend the wedding reception of a relative)." So how does it feel when he sees himself as father of an India team captain? "I don't have words to express that feeling. It is special. I had seen his leadership skills since he was young. When I would take him to the academy and teach him a drill, he would take a lead and teach other trainees. He has always been a responsible boy." What will be his advice to his son before the final? "Nothing bas cup lekey aa jaayein (Just bring home the cup)."

Dhas, Saharan 50s Give India 2-Wicket Win Over SA, Place In U19 WC Final
Fuelled by splendid fifties by Sachin Dhas and captain Uday Saharan, defending champions India battled past South Africa by two wickets to storm into the final, their fifth consecutive of the ICC Under-19 World Cup on Tuesday. Dhas (96, 95 balls, 11x4, 1x6) and Saharan (81, 124, 6x4), who were India's guiding forces in the last match against Nepal with a hundred each, garnered 171 runs for the fifth wicket as India hunted down the target of 245 with just 7 balls to spare. India will face either Australia or Pakistan in the summit clash to be played at this venue on Sunday, searching for their sixth trophy in the marquee event. But the beginning of India's chase resembled a debris yard, losing four wickets for just 32 runs in the 12th over.
The South African new-ball bowler Kwena Maphaka jolted India in the first ball of their innings, dismissing Adarsh Singh with a nasty climbing delivery that the batter had no choice other than snicking to wicket-keeper Lhuan-dre Pretorious.
His partner Tristan Luus soon joined the fun with the wickets of Musheer Khan, Arshin Kulkarni and Priyanshu Moliya as all three India batters were indecisive outside the off-stump while hanging their bats to dry.
But the Indians found their saviours in Dhas and Saharan, who dished out innings of vastly contrasting nature and tempo.
Dhas was aggressive despite the situation his team was in, but Saharan was happy to keep his end going.
Dhas' knock was a treatise on playing cross-batted shots as he cracked a six, pulled fours besides those well-placed nudges through the vacant spots on the on-side.
Saharan, on the other hand, was more traditional but was not entirely hesitant to bring out an exquisite drive or rasping cut whenever an opportunity was there for him to do so.
Dhas reached his fifty in 47 balls, fittingly, with a pull off pacer Riley Norton and Saharan reached his half-century in 88 balls with a cover drive off off-spinner Juan James.
In the process, Saharan also became the highest run-getter in this World Cup with 389 runs.
But these two youngsters showed immense maturity not to squander the start they got; piling runs to keep the pressure squarely on the hosts.
A second hundred in this event was there for his taking, but Maphaka, the tournament's highest wicket-taker so far, deceived him with a slower ball that Dhas just managed to scoop to David Teeger at covers.
But the breakthrough came a wee bit late as India hung on to squeeze past the line notwithstanding the run out of Saharan when the scores were level.
Earlier, bowlers played a significant part in shaping India's victory, limiting 2014 champions South Africa to 244 for 7 on a pitch that offered them considerable assistance.
SA found fight through wicketkeeper batter Lhuan-dre Pretorious (76, 102 balls) and Richard Seletswane (64, 100 balls) after early blows, but those efforts were not enough to rattle the visitors.
Pretorious and Seletswane milked 72 runs for the third wicket but they took nearly 22 overs for that.
The South African top-order just could not get going against India pacers Naman Tiwari (1/52) and Raj Limbani (3/60) who found appreciable pace, bounce and carry from the Willowmoore track.
Even when Seletswane and Pretorious were reconstructing the SA innings, they failed to score at a brisk pace, as the run-rate for a large part remained under four.
Left-arm spinners Saumey Pandey and Musheer Khan (2/43) along with off-spinner Priyanshu Moliya shackled the host batters' progress in this phase, bowling a tidy line and length.
Pretorious, who tried to bring in some momentum hammering Moliya for a six over mid-wicket, departed just as the alliance began to blossom.
The left-hander, who made his third successive fifty in this event, wanted to cart Musheer over mid-wicket but a leaping Murugan Abhishek held on to a stunner to end his stay.
Seletswane also could not build on the platform as he soon fell to Tiwari, as his hoick ended in the hands of a running-in Moliya in the deep.
James (24 off 19 balls) and Luus (23 off 12 balls) helped South Africa amass 81 runs off the last 10 overs but that was not enough to stop the Indians.

Sumit Nagal's Progress Depends On Fitness And Quickness: Anand Amritraj
Rising Indian tennis star Sumit Nagal's progress and entry into the top 100 would depend on his fitness and speed, feels Indian tennis legend Anand Amritraj. Nagal made headlines last month after making it to the main draw of the Australian Open singles before getting knocked out in the second round. "Sumit Nagal's progress depends on his fitness and quickness because he cannot overpower too many people. He has to outlast them and construct the points," Anand told PTI on the sidelines of a Davis Cup celebration event at the Madras Cricket Club here on Monday.
Currently ranked 121 in the ATP singles ranking, Anand backed Nagal to make it to the top-100 in the upcoming six months, besides expecting him to be a regular face in the Grand Slams.
"He is very close to making it to the top-100 in the next six months, which will earn him regular chances into the Grand Slams." Speaking about his game, Anand praised Nagal's ground strokes, his forehand and backhand, but advised him to work on his serve.
"He was a reserve in my Davis Cup team as the captain in 2018. A very nice boy with a very good ground stroke, much line Somdev (Devvarman).
" He doesn't have a huge serve, but he is very quick and is solid off both forehand and backhand, which makes him a smaller version of Somdev. We need to wait and see how far he can get with that game type.
"I will keep a close eye on him on how much he is improving. His serve needs to get bigger, and he needs one finishing shot - the forehand probably," he added.
"Nagal, Ramkumar, Sasikumar have potential to make it to top-100"
Besides Nagal, Anand also backed two more Indian players from the Tamil Nadu -- Ramkumar Ramanathan and Mukund Sasikumar -- to make it to the top 100 in the coming months.
While he lauded Ramkumar's serve, he feels that the 29-year-old needs to work on his forehand and backhand.
"I will tell the same thing about Ramkumar. His serve is big anyway. He needs to improve his first serve percentage and also work on that forehand to put the ball away, besides being more consistent off the backhand." "Mukund Sasikumar is also very talented. No reason why he cannot be a top-100 player. All three boys have the potential to make it to the top-100. Even if the two of them make it to that level, it would be great for Indian tennis," he signed off.
Ramkumar and Sasikumar, along with the 26-year-old Nagal, are currently participating in the Chennai Open ATP Challenger.

PSG Tightlipped Over Kylian Mbappe Switch To Real Madrid
With just five months remaining on his contract at Paris Saint-Germain Kylian Mbappe's much vaunted move to Real Madrid continues to dominate French football news. The transfer window closed last week with Mbappe insisting he is yet to decide where he will play after this current deal with PSG concludes at the end of June, when he becomes a free agent. On Saturday both ESPN and the 'Parisien' daily newspaper reported, without naming their source, that the superstar striker would leave France and join the world's biggest club Real Madrid. A source at the French club told AFP on Sunday, however, there had been no change in the longstanding deadlock.
He has "not informed the club of any decision", said the source, despite there being an agreement that the PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi will be first to know when his decision is made.
Madrid said they had no comment to make when asked about the Mbappe links by AFP on Sunday.
Mbappe last spoke on the issue in cryptic terms in early January.
"I haven't made my decision, I haven't made my choice. But we have an agreement with the president (Al-Khelaifi) which means that all parties are protected," the 25-year-old told French television.
The France captain who is expected to head the Olympic team at the 2024 Paris Games added he would inform Al-Khelaifi first and announce the news himself once any decision had been made.
PSG coach Luis Enrique, a former Real player, said Thursday, ahead of a game where Mbappe scored his 20th league goal of the season, that the player had revealed nothing to him personally.
What does appear certain is that Mbappe has signed no deal as yet but is, in fact, locked in negotiations with Madrid over the size of his salary, an issue where the Qatar-backed PSG could easily match Real.
Mbappe is paid some 70 million euros (75.6 million dollars) a year already and as a free agent will be able to negotiate a blockbuster signing on fee on top of any salary increase.
PSG themselves appear to be pulling out all the stops to cling on to Mbappe's sublime skills after allowing Lionel Messi and Neymar to leave the capital.
Neither Messi nor Neymar have been missed as new arrivals such as Randal Kolo Muani and Marco Asnesio have struck up an understanding with Mbappe.
If the 2018 World Cup winner and 2022 World Cup top scorer does join Madrid in July, he would join English sensation the 20-year-old Jude Bellingham and Brazilian strikers Rodrygo and Vinicius, one of whom would have to make way for the Frenchman.
