Broad's Momentous 'Last Ball' Sees England Beat Australia, Draw Ashes 2-2

England beat Australia by 49 runs to win the fifth Test at The Oval on Monday and end the Ashes series all square at 2-2. Australia, chasing 384 to win, collapsed from 264-3 to 334 all out, with England's retiring paceman Stuart Broad taking the final wicket. England did the bulk of the damage when, after a rain break of more than two hours, they took four Australia wickets for 11 runs in 19 balls. Off-spinner Moeen Ali took three wickets on his way to innings figures of 3-76 and all-rounder Chris Woakes ended with 4-50.

Broad, England's all-time leading Ashes bowler, then polished off the tail. Australia, as the holders, had already retained the Ashes but they remain without an Ashes series win in England since 2001.

"It was absolutely wonderful," Broad told Sky Sports. "I thought Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali set the tone absolutely unbelievably.

"Woakesy picked up a couple of wickets, particularly Steve Smith, who has just been a wonderful player to play against all these years.

"Once we got a couple we really started to believe. The crowd were unbelievable. It was so loud and we just jumped on the back of that. To contribute to the team with two wickets is very special.

"When you make that decision you wonder what your last ball will be so to take a wicket to win an Ashes Test match is pretty cool."

Watch: Fairytale End! Broad Dismisses Carey With Last Ball Of Test Career

England beat Australia by 49 runs to win the fifth Test at The Oval on Monday and end the Ashes series all square at 2-2. Australia, chasing 384 to win, collapsed from 264-3 to 334 all out, with England's retiring paceman Stuart Broad taking the final two wickets in the form of Todd Murphy and Alex Carey.  Australia suffered a dramatic collapse in the last session, reduced to 294-8 as England's Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes ripped through their batting order at The Oval.  Rain kept the players off the field for about two hours before Australia, who as the holders have already retained the Ashes at 2-1 up, resumed on 238-3.

That still left the tourists needing 146 more runs to reach an imposing victory target of 384.

Steve Smith, dropped at leg gully by England captain Ben Stokes just before the interval, was 40 not out and left-hander Travis Head 31 not out.

The pair had extended their fourth-wicket stand to 95 when off-spinner Moeen, in what could be his last Test appearance, turned a ball out of the rough.

Head, on 43, tried to drive, with Joe Root holding a routine catch at first slip.

Australia then lost their star batsman when Smith, having completed an 89-ball fifty, fell for 54 when he edged an excellent full-length delivery from paceman Woakes to Zak Crawley at second slip.

And Australia fell to 274-6 when Moeen had all-rounder Mitchell Marsh brilliantly caught by diving wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow.

Australia's collapse continued when Woakes and Crawley combined again to dismiss Mitchell Starc for a duck and captain Pat Cummins was next to go, caught by Stokes off Moeen for nine.

Earlier, Woakes removed Australia openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja in a dramatic burst of two wickets for one run in seven balls on an overcast morning and with a pitch freshened by rain.

Express quick Mark Wood then had Marnus Labuschagne caught in the slips for 13 to leave Australia 169-3.

England pace great Stuart Broad, who on Saturday made a shock announcement he would retire after the match, took up the attack as the 37-year-old sought to dismiss Warner for the 18th time in Tests.

But it was Woakes who made the breakthrough England desperately needed when a good-length ball, angled across Warner, nipped off the seam and took the outside edge to give Bairstow a simple catch.

Warner was out for 60 and it was not long before Khawaja, the leading run-scorer in the series, followed him.

Khawaja was lbw to Woakes for 72 after being caught on the crease in front of middle and leg stumps by a full-length delivery.

Wood then squared up Labuschagne with an 86 mph (138 kph) delivery that angled in and swung away to take the edge, with Crawley holding a fine low catch at second slip.

Stokes then gave Smith, who has scored three hundreds in five Tests at The Oval, a reprieve on the stroke of lunch after he gloved Moeen.

The ball looped to Stokes at leg gully, who grabbed it one-handed above his head. But as his arm came down, his hand clipped his leg and he dropped the ball.

Namibia Qualify For U19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2024

Namibia were crowned champions of the Africa Qualifier and have booked their berth for the ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka next year, informed ICC on Sunday. Namibia became the third team to punch their tickets for the U19 World Cup 2024 through the Qualifier route. Last month, New Zealand went through from the East Asia-Pacific Qualifier while Nepal advanced from Asia in February 2023. The three teams join 11 others — Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe — who automatically qualified as the best-placed Full Member nations from the previous edition in 2022.

The Eagles were unbeaten through their run in the Africa Qualifier, winning all their games after their first match against Uganda was abandoned due to rain. The bowlers were at the top of their game as they managed to defend low totals, with Namibia's highest score being only 170 throughout the tournament.

After the washed-out game, Nambia faced off against Tanzania on 24 July. Captain Alexander Büsing-Volschenk top-scored with 39 to help Namibia post a decent total of 139. The bowlers all chipped in with wickets to skittle Tanzania out for just 33, recording a big 106-run win.

Kenya too suffered a similar fate in the next game as they were bowled out for just 64 after batting first against Namibia. The Eagles made light work of the chase, winning the game by 7 wickets inside 17 overs.

They brushed aside Sierra Leone by 83 runs with left-arm pacer Morris Gerhardt Kariata leading the way with a four-wicket haul.

Namibia finished the tournament on a high, defending a target of 149 against Nigeria with Peter-Daniel Blignaut recording a five-wicket haul in their 53-run win.

Two more spots are still up for grabs for the U19 Men's marquee event next year which will be determined through the Europe Regional Qualifier and Americas Regional Qualifier.

The Europe Qualifier will be held between August 6 to 12 in the Netherlands where the hosts will battle Guernsey, Italy, Jersey, Norway and Scotland for qualification. The Americas Qualifier will commence on August 11 with Argentina, Bermuda, hosts Canada, Suriname and USA participating in the event.

"No IPL For One-Dayers": Dravid Reviews Suryakumar's ODI Performance

Indian cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid reviewed Suryakumar Yadav's ODI batting performance. The star player, who is the top-ranked T20I batter in the world, has failed to impress with his stats in the ODI format. In 25 ODIs, Suryakumar has scored 476 runs at an average of 23.80. He has hit only two half-centuries in those games with his highest score being 64. Not only the stats but the modes of his dismissals have also been disappointing.

While reviewing the ODI batting of Suryakumar, Dravid defended the player, giving an Indian Premier League (IPL) reference.

"Surya is a really good player, there is no doubt about that. He has shown that. Especially in T20 cricket, in domestic cricket, in white-ball cricket. He has some very good performances. He would be the first one to admit that his ODI numbers haven't been up to the standards or the standards that he has set in T20. He's also probably learning ODIs. He has played a lot of competitive T20 cricket through the IPL before he made his debut for India. In One-dayers he hasn't played as much competitive cricket, because there is no IPL for one-dayers," said Dravid in the press conference after the second ODI.

In the ongoing three-match ODI series against West Indies, Suryakumar has scored 19 and 24 runs in the first two games.

"He's also learning about his game, and learning to bat in the middle overs. He is a talent and we want to give him as many opportunities as we can. It is really up to him now to take those opportunities and use those opportunities. In the kind of setup we are, we give people as many chances as we possibly can," Dravid added.

Max Verstappen Wins Wet, Wild Sprint Race At Belgian Grand Prix

Max Verstappen increased his lead by a further eight points in the world championship with a calculated and convincing victory ahead of Australian rookie Oscar Piastri in Saturday's rain-delayed sprint race at the Belgian Grand Prix. Red Bull's double defending world champion rode his luck when McLaren's Piastri snatched the lead by making an early pit-stop to switch from wet to intermediate tyres, to storm back and win by 6.6 seconds. Verstappen's win extended Red Bull's record this year to 14 wins from 14 races -- 11 grands prix and three sprints.

"It was all under the control, the car was quick, tyres were holding on," said the Dutchman.

Piastri came home a strong second ahead of Pierre Gasly, who gave the beleaguered Alpine team something to celebrate, with Carlos Sainz and his Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc finishing fourth and fifth. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton came home fourth on track for Mercedes, but was demoted to seventh behind Lando Norris, in the second McLaren, after taking a five-second penalty for a clash with Red Bull's Sergio Perez.

George Russell was eighth in the second Mercedes ahead of Esteban Ocon in the second Alpine and Daniel Ricciardo, enjoying his second weekend with Alpha Tauri.

"I am very happy," said Piastri. "We tried out best and led for a few laps, but we were no match for Max. But it's nice to be up there in P2. All credit to the team."

The race began 35 minutes late, after delays caused by heavy rain, with all 20 cars on full-wet tyres for the start behind the safety car. The race distance was reduced to 12 laps, but it was obvious that in the improving conditions all 20 cars would dive into the pits for intermediates – a chaotic spectacle – as the race was reduced to 11 laps, allowing for one more formation lap.

Finally, the safety car came in and Verstappen accelerated into Pouhon while Piastri, Sainz, Perez, Gasly and Hamilton all dived in immediately for intermediates leaving Verstappen leading Leclerc at the front.

'Suffering'

"We need to box this lap," said Verstappen, who then pitted, emerging second behind Piastri with Gasly, Perez and Hamilton behind him, all three gaining from their instant pit-stop decisions. By lap three, the Australian was eight-tenths ahead, his wet-set-up car resisting the Red Bull, which had superior straight-line speed, before Fernando Alonso spun out at the exit of Pouhon.

He was unhurt, but he had his first non-finish of the season to mark his 42nd birthday. The safety car was deployed while Red Bull told Verstappen Piastri's left-hand tyres were "suffering".

"I'm not surprised, he's drifting everywhere," said the Dutchman who picked his moment after the re-start, with five laps to go, to blast past Piastri down Kemmel Straight.

Gasly stayed third as Perez and Hamilton tangled when the Briton dived down the inside at Stavelot, but he succeeded later in the lap at La Source and both Ferraris followed in overtaking the Mexican.

"I have no rear grip," said Perez, before slithering across a gravel trap to re-join 16th. "We're going to box and retire the car," Red Bull informed him.

His team-mate made short work of establishing himself as leader and was four seconds clear of Piastri by lap nine as Hamilton, fourth, was given a five-second penalty for his earlier contact with Perez.

Ashes: Stokes Makes History, Surpasses Pietersen To Hit A New 'Most 6s' Record

England skipper Ben Stokes made history on Saturday as he became the batter with the highest number of sixes during a single Ashes series against arch-rivals Australia.  Stokes accomplished this during England's fifth and final Ashes Test at The Oval. In the second innings, he scored 42 off 67 balls. His knock consisted of three fours and a six. His runs came at a strike rate of 62.68. In the previous innings, he could score just three runs.

With this, he has smashed 15 sixes in the series, the highest so far. Previously, the record was held by Kevin Pietersen, who had lit up the 2005 Ashes series with his batting, which consisted of 14 sixes. Stokes had also hit 13 sixes in the 2019 edition of the series.

Stokes also has the second-highest number of sixes in a Test series. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has the highest number of sixes in a Test series, smashing 19 maximums during the series against South Africa in the 2019-20 season.

In the ongoing Ashes, Stokes has scored 405 runs in five matches across nine innings at an average of 45.00. He has scored one century and two fifties in the series, with the best score of 155. He is the third-highest run-scorer in the series next to Usman Khawaja (424 runs) and Zak Crawley (480 runs).

Coming to the match, England's second innings is going on and they have a lead of over 300 runs.

In their first innings, Australia was bundled out for 295 runs and they had a 12-run lead. They lost wickets at regular intervals. At the top of the order, Steve Smith (71 in 123 balls, with six fours) and Usman Khawaja (47 in 157 balls with seven fours) delivered key contributions which kept Australia's innings together.

Down the order, skipper Pat Cummins (36) and an aggressive Todd Murphy (34 in 39 balls with two fours and three sixes) helped the Aussies gain the lead, putting on a 49-run stand. Smith and Cummins had also put on a 54-run stand for the eighth wicket.

Chris Woakes (3/61) emerged as the pick of the bowlers for England, while Root, Wood and Broad took two wickets each. James Anderson got one wicket.

In their first innings, England was bundled out for 283 runs after being put to bat first by Australia. Harry Brook (85 in 91 balls with 11 fours and two sixes) top-scored for England and had a 111-run stand with Moeen Ali (34 in 37 balls with three fours and two sixes) after England slipped to 73/3. Later a 49-run stand for the eighth wicket between Mark Wood (28) and Chris Woakes (36) helped England reach a decent first-innings score.

Mitchell Starc (4/82) was the pick of the bowlers for Australia. Josh Hazlewood and Todd Murphy took two wickets each while skipper Pat Cummins and Mitchell Marsh got a wicket each.

Australia is leading the five-match series 2-1. Though Australia has regained the Ashes urn, England can still go out of this home series respectfully after a 2-2 draw.

Rain Spoils Day Two After Pakistan Take Lead Against Sri Lanka

Abdullah Shafique and skipper Babar Azam steered Pakistan to a 12-run lead but rain halted their charge early on day two of the second Test against Sri Lanka on Tuesday. The tourists were 178-2 after resuming under gloomy skies on 145-2 with Abdullah Shafique, on 87, and skipper Babar Azam, on 28, batting in a stand of 57. Only 43 minutes of play were possible before the downpour began and forced officials to call lunch, tea and finally stumps with the ground fully covered. More rain is predicted on day three and Pakistan, who lead the two-match series 1-0, will depend on an aggressive approach to clinch the series.

Shafique and Azam took on the Sri Lankan bowlers with a string of boundaries after a couple of maiden overs to push for a big lead in response to Sri Lanka's total of 166.

Shafique has smashed eight fours and two sixes in his 131-ball stay so far. Azam, who began the day on eight, took on the bowlers with a six and two fours in the 10 overs since play resumed.

Pakistan bowlers combined to dismiss Sri Lanka in the second session on the opening day after the hosts elected to bat first.

Shafique extended Pakistan's domination with a second-wicket stand of 108 with Shan Masood, who made 51, to put Sri Lanka on the back foot with their attacking play.

'Thanks To PM Modi': India Football Coach After Asian Games Clearance

The football fraternity of India was on cloud nine on Wednesday after the sports ministry gave a clearance to both men's and women's team to participate in the upcoming Asian Games. The continental event will be held in Hangzhou, China, starting from September 23. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) had earlier refused to clear the Indian football teams for the Asian Games on the ground that they were not ranked in the top-8 in Asia. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) then made an appeal to the Sports Ministry to allow the men's and women's sides to take part in the prestigious event.

After the news of India getting the clearance came to light, national senior team head coach Igor Stimac, who had earlier asked for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention, expressed his gratitude towards the authorities and stated that he will be using the upcoming King's Cup in Thailand to prepare the players for the Asian Games.

"Let's not forget to give special and big thanks to sports minister Anurag Thakur and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to our general secretary Shaji Prabhakaran and especially to our president, Kalyan Chaubey for great efforts they put so that we can celebrate today. I am especially glad because so many of our supporters who were behind, sending message, emails, supporting the football culture in the country. So, it's a really important moment for us and hopefully a great chance for our youngsters to prove themselves on a big stage," said Stimac on Revsportz.

"I have great trust and faith in our youngsters and we will see what happens. It's still far away towards the end of September, and we need to work really hard on the preparation camp for such a tournament. First thing I have in mind is that I might use King's Cup in Thailand to prepare these boys, which is the only possible situation. Maybe give them opportunity to play against Iraq, Thailand, and whoever else is there to prepare them," he added.

The national team under Croatian coach Igor Stimac has entered sub-100 club in FIFA ranking once again having won SAFF championship where it played against Lebanon and Kuwait.

Apart from Stimac, AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey also said, “It's indeed an important day for Indian Football and a testament to our resolution to develop the sport in India. We thank the Government of India and the Ministry of Sports & Youth Affairs for their support and for providing special compensation to Indian Football for the 19th Asian Games."

“Indian Football has been on an unprecedented rise recently, and I believe this impetus will further boost our players' morale in all upcoming events. It's my honour to represent the All India Football Federation and with moments like this, it further encourages our steadfast commitment to continue developing the ecosystem in the country," he added.

According to a report in the news agency PTI, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) is bullish on sending its first team to the Asian Games, led by its talismanic skipper Sunil Chhetri.

The national team under Croatian coach Igor Stimac has entered sub-100 club in FIFA ranking once again having won SAFF championship where it played against Lebanon and Kuwait.

What Virat Kohli Brings To Indian Test Team, Skipper Rohit Sharma Sums Up

Despite having an upper hand in the game, Team India failed to clinch a victory in the second Test against West Indies as the final day of the match got washed out due to rain. Asked to bat first, the Rohit Sharma-led side posted a total of 438 and then bundled out the hosts for 255. Later in the second innings, the visitors declared at 181/2 on Day four to set the West Indies an imposing target of 365 runs to win the match. Fiery half-centuries from skipper Rohit Sharma and wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan helped India to post a huge total.

The most memorable performance in the match came from the bat of Virat Kohli, who smashed his 76th international century. At the end of Day 5, Rohit praised Virat and stated that a team needs players like him, who can stabilize an innings in Test cricket.

"In Test matches, you need guys who stabilise the innings like what Virat (Kohli) did, he played superbly. You need the mixture of everything. We have depth, we have got variety. We are in the right place. It's about getting the job done. I always believe in getting better as a team. I said after the World Test Championship final as well. We've played consistent cricket. That's what we are looking at. We want to focus on all three aspects of the game. We need to be a good fielding unit. Bowlers - how they respond under pressure. What sort of mindset batters go in with under challenging conditions. That's what I am looking forward to," Rohit said.

The skipper also lavished praise on young batter Ishan Kishan, who brought up maiden half-century in the longest format in just 33 balls.

"You need guys like Ishan. We wanted quick runs, we promoted him, he wasn't afraid. He was the first one to put his hand up," he added.

The Indian cricket team was denied the opportunity to take full points from the two-match Test series against West Indies after the second game ended in a draw due to a complete washout.

India were able to get 16 points from the possible 24 which took their PCT (percentage of points won) to 66.67 percent. As a result, they are currently second in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table behind Pakistan who have 100 percent after winning their first Test against Sri Lanka.

On the other hand, West Indies are currently fifth in the points table after getting 4 points for the draw which took their PCT to 16.67 percent.

Both West Indies and India will be squaring off against each other in the upcoming three-match ODI series, starting from Thursday at the Kensington Oval.

Did Not Run Away From Trials; Good To See Youngsters Fighting: Vinesh, Bajrang

Facing the wrestling fraternity's wrath for accepting exemption from the Asian Games trials, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia on Monday said they are hurt that young wrestlers dragged them to the court but are at the same time delighted to see the junior grapplers starting to fight for their rights. The IOA ad-hoc panel conducted trials in all 18 categories for the Hangzhou Games but decided to give direct entries to Bajrang (65kg) and Vinesh (53kg), triggering angry reactions from many in the wrestling fraternity. Junior wresters Antim Panghal and Sujeet Kalkal approached the Delhi High Court, appealing that the exemption be set aside but their petition was dismissed.

Both Bajrang and Vinesh, who are abroad at different locations for training, came live on social media to respond to the allegations and recent developments.

"We are not against the trials. I can't blame Antim. She is not wrong. She is fighting for her right and we are fighting for our right. She is too young, she does not understand. But we are not wrong," Vinesh said.

"We fought against the system, against the powerful. We took blows on our heads, no one came forward (then).

"She says she was cheated, but did I cheat (during CWG trials)?  If at all it was done, it was done by Brij Bhushan, or got it done. My job was to wrestle, and I did that.

"If she felt cheated then she should have gone to court at that time. It hurts. But I am glad the kids have started speaking, they are gathering courage now. It's positive for wrestling," said Vinesh, the two-time World Championship medallist.

Bajrang said they wanted to speak on the issue only after the trials and after the decision of the Delhi High Court order on the petition.

"It was said that there are 3-4 wrestlers who can beat Vinesh but dear Antim, Vinesh has not lost (as yet), and will not lose."

"Antim, you said you became first Indian to win U-20 championship but Vinesh is also the only woman wrestler to have won two Worlds medal. You filed court case against us?," he said.

Vinesh said they do not fear trials.

"We have given 20 years to wrestling. She says I have not practised but I was at protest site. We are still hungry. We put everything at stake when we were at the peak of our career.

"The effort that they have put in getting these trials done, if that much they had done at dharna, Brij Bhushan would not have been outside today and all of us would have been wrestling.

"We did not run away from trials, we just wanted enough time to train. Take our trials, we have not run away from country. Someone wins and someone loses but we can't be given even one-month time to train?," she said.

Vinesh also asserted that she is not going to quit like this.

"It's been 20 years I have been in this sport. Twice I have returned from Olympics without a medal. My mother and I have dreamt of winning at the Olympics. Why should I quit.

"The youngsters are being misled. If they say we have done nothing, it's wrong. It hurts. We also made contributions by winning medals but the sport is being destroyed. People who call themselves God of wrestling do not know how to respect women," she said.

Bajrang said they won't issue clarifications every now and then.

"The whole wrestling fraternity can sit together. You answer our questions and we will answer yours. If we are proved wrong, we will quit wrestling." They also lambasted London Olympic medallist Yogeshwar Dutt for siding with outgoing WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who they have accused of sexually exploiting women wrestlers.

4th Test: Australia Retain Ashes After Washout, Lead Series 2-1

Australia have retained the Ashes after the fourth Test against England ended in a rain-affected draw, with bad weather at Old Trafford washing out Sunday's final day. The result ensured Australia, as the holders, kept the Ashes at 2-1 up with one match left in the series -- regardless of the result of next week's fifth Test at The Oval. Heavy overnight rain left the outfield sodden and meant play was unable to start as scheduled at 11:00 am (1000 GMT) in Manchester. No sooner had it been announced that play would resume at 1200 GMT, provided there was no further rain, the ground was subjected to a fresh downpour lasting several hours.

The match was officially abandoned by the umpires as a draw at 1624 GMT.

Despite this draw, Australia will still have to avoid defeat at The Oval if they are to secure their first Ashes series win in England since 2001.

"The group should be pretty proud. Our preference is to come over here and win the Ashes but it's nice to retain it, albeit not in the best of circumstances," Australia captain Pat Cummins said.

England skipper Ben Stokes was understandably downbeat, saying: "It is a tough one to take, playing the cricket we did over the first three days, but it is all part of the journey.

"We knew what we needed to do and that played into our hands. It was another do-or-die game for us and I don't think we could have done much more -- bowling them out and then scoring 590.

"We have got one game left and we want to go out with a win and draw the series, like in 2019."

Australia finished on 214-5 in their second innings, 61 runs behind England's first-innings 592, after rain meant only 30 overs' play was possible on Saturday's fourth day.

England managed to take just one wicket in that time when part-time off-spinner Joe Root had Marnus Labuschagne caught behind, but not before the Australian had held up the hosts' victory charge with 111.

'The weather cost us'

Old Trafford is notorious for weather delays -- the ground has now had 25 complete days rained off in Test cricket, plus an additional two entire Tests abandoned.

England restricted world Test champions Australia to 317 in their first innings before racing to 592 all out, thanks largely to opener Zak Crawley's breathtaking 189 and an unbeaten 99 from Jonny Bairstow.

Fast bowler Mark Wood ripped through Australia's top order on Friday with three wickets.

But Australia kept England at bay on Saturday during a stand of 103 between Labuschagne and Mitchell Marsh (31 not out).

Crawley, the player of the match, added: "We are quite flat. We were in a good position to win this game but the weather cost us."

Sunday's result ended England's bid to become just the second side in Ashes history to win a series from 2-0 down.

The Australia team of 1936/37, inspired by batting great Don Bradman, overturned that deficit to win 3-2.

Australia won the first Test of the current series with a thrilling two-wicket victory at Edgbaston where Stokes controversially declared at 398-8 on the opening day, even though star batsman Root was 118 not out.

The tourists went 2-0 up with a 43-run win at Lord's, a match where England collapsed from 188-1 to 325 all out in their first innings before Stokes gave his side hope of achieving an improbable run-chase with a stunning 155.

England bounced back to take the third Test at Headingley by three wickets, but the Manchester rain ensured that wasn't enough to spark an Ashes-winning fightback.

Max Verstappen Delivers Red Bull Winning-Streak Record In Hungary

Max Verstappen cruised to another majestic victory on Sunday, reeling off a record 12th straight win for Red Bull as he dominated the Hungarian Grand Prix with a textbook drive from lights to flag. The defending double world champion grabbed the lead from pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton at the start and remained in control for his seventh successive victory, his ninth in 11 races this year and the 44th of his career. More significantly, it was Red Bull's 12th consecutive win, breaking a 35-year-old record they had shared with McLaren, who won 11 straight races in 1988 with Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna as their driver pair.

Verstappen came home a massive 33.7 seconds ahead of McLaren's Lando Norris with his Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez in third.

"For the team 12 wins in a row is incredible. Hopefully we can keep this momentum going for a long time," said Verstappen

Verstappen's seventh straight win stretched the double world champion's lead over Perez to 110 points in the championship.

Seven-time world champion Hamilton, who started the race from a record 104th pole position, was outpaced at the start and finished fourth for Mercedes ahead of Oscar Piastri in the second McLaren and the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc.

Leclerc, however, took a five-second penalty, and was 'passed' by George Russell in the second Mercedes with Carlos Sainz finishing eighth in the second Ferrari ahead of the Aston Martin paid two-time champion Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll.

"What an unbelievable race," said Verstappen on his cool-down lap.

"It was good to drive, so enjoyable. It was unbelievable and thank-you everyone."

He added: "I had a good start and had good 'bite'. I had the inside, so I knew the corner was mine and it all worked out well. Then, it was my race and the car was fantastic."

Norris said: "It was a tough race and it wasn't easy to hold off Checo at the end when he was catching up. But it's another podium for me and for the team. We're making great progress."

The race began in hot conditions with an air temperature of 30 degrees Celsius and the track at 54, factors sure to affect tyre performance. Verstappen wore an ice-packed vest on the grid under a parasol.

Hamilton made a strong initial start, but was swamped at Turn One, Verstappen squeezing through on the inside and both McLarens taking advantage to push him down to fourth.

Gifted the lead, Verstappen took control as Hamilton, so delighted by his record 104th pole position, apologised. "It's a long race," Mercedes reminded him.

On a busy opening lap Russell, from 18th on the grid, moved up to 13th as the two Alpines collided and retired, Zhou Guanyu having pushed the returning Daniel Ricciardo into Esteban Ocon who hit his teammate Pierre Gasly. The Chinese driver was given a five-second penalty.

Red Bull pitted Verstappen for hard tyres on lap 23 without him losing his lead.

Perez, in the mood, passed Piastri forcefully at Turn Two on lap 48 as Leclerc was penalized for speeding in the pit-lane before Hamilton made a second stop for mediums.

He re-joined fifth, close to a minute behind Verstappen who led imperiously ahead of Norris, Perez and Piastri with 20 laps remaining, the Dutchman afforded a luxurious 2.6 seconds stop on lap 51 before clocking the fastest lap as he surged to the flag.

Watch: Ashwin Produces 'Magic Delivery' To Bowl Out West Indies Captain

Ravichandran Ashwin produced the delivery of the series to breach a dogged Kraigg Brathwaite's defence as West Indies crawled to 174 for 3 at tea against India on the third day of the second Test on Saturday. West Indies skipper Brathwaite (75 off 235 balls) used his enormous powers of concentration to frustrate the Indian attack on an insipid track before world's No. 1 Test bowler held the centre stage with a magical moment that brought the smiles back in Indian camp.

The track on offer here is a poor advertisement for Test cricket and if it gets any rating other than 'Average' from ICC that will be a real surprise.

If West Indies were indiscreet in their shot selection in the opening Test, the home team batters were over-cautious and a lifeless pitch helped their negative approach and a draw seems an inevitability.

Toiling for close to 73 overs on a track which at best can be called 'dead', Ashwin (30-10-57-1) got delivery that had flight and required inward drift which was good enough to entice Brathwaite to plonk his front-foot for his umpteenth defensive prod.

But to his horror, the ball turned sharply, an off-spinner's dream delivery that went between bat and pad to hit the stumps.

Watch: Ashwin Bowls 'Magic Delivery' To Bowl Out West Indies Captain

A compact defensive player, Brathwaite's only fault was pushing his bat ahead of his pad allowing the ball to exploit the gap to the fullest.

The dismissal came just when Brathwaite and an equally stodgy Jermaine Blackwood (16 off 89 balls) brought their ultra-defensive 'A' game to the fore adding only 40 runs in 21 overs in the post-lunch session.

The Queens Park Oval track has literally nothing in it for bowlers and with West Indies batters intent to block more deliveries, creating chances became all the more difficult.

Having lost better part of the first session to rain, Indian bowlers were left high and dry with the track not showing considerable wear and tear.

The figures of Ravindra Jadeja (19-10-19-1) was an indication enough that defending wasn't difficult as he hardly bowled any wicket-taking deliveries.

Ashwin also had his moments of frustration when he over-flighted a few deliveries and was dispatched to the boundary.

In the morning session, debutant Mukesh Kumar was rewarded for his nagging channel bowling as his maiden wicket in the form of fellow debutant Kirk McKenzie.

Bowling a line which is right on off-stump or shade outside of it, Mukesh bowled a delivery on fuller side with not enough room to cut which McKenzie (32 off 57 balls) edged it to Ishan Kishan for a regulation catch.

McKenzie, who hit four boundaries and a six, looked in fine touch and played with a lot of purpose during his 57-ball stay.

With the pitch not having any purchase for either spinners or pacers, it has indeed been a hard toil for the Indian bowlers so far.

However, one man who would be itching to get into the wickets column will be veteran Saurashtra left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat.

The domestic workhorse undoubtedly is the weakest link in the Indian bowling attack as he has so far given away 32 runs in 12 wicket-less overs so far.

More than not getting the wickets, Unadkat hasn't even looked incisive enough to create problems for Brathwaite, who has a compact defensive game.

The lack of pace and not having enough movement off the surface meant that Unadkat was the easiest bowler to negotiate.

With the next series in South Africa, Unadkat with two wicket-less Tests in the West Indies might find it extremely difficult to hold onto his place in the squad.

The difference between him and Mukesh has been the length that the Bengal pacer found which is slightly fuller despite both of them bowling at the same pace.

There is also that slight hint of movement inward or outward that can cause confusion for batters while Unadkat's stock delivery is one that is pushed across the right-handers, which is quite predictable.

Russia's Vera Zvonareva Denied Entry To Poland For WTA Tournament

Russian former world number two Vera Zvonareva has been denied entry to Poland where she was to participate in next week's Polish Open WTA tournament, the interior ministry said on Saturday. "Vera Zvonareva was trying to enter our country with a visa granted by France, via a flight from Belgrade," according to a statement issued by the Polish ministry. "On July 21, Polish border guards made it impossible for the Russian tennis player to enter Poland."

Polish authorities said that the former Wimbledon and US Open runner-up remained in the transit area of Warsaw airport before catching a flight to Podgorica in Montenegro.

The 38-year-old is on the list of "undesirable" people in Poland following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the ministry said.

"Poland steadfastly opposes the regime of (Russian and Belarusian Presidents Vladimir) Putin and (Alexander) Lukashenko, not allowing people who support Russian and Belarusian actions to enter our country," the statement added.

The WTA, which runs the women's game, said they are aware of the situation. "The safety and well-being of all players is a top priority of the WTA. Vera has departed Poland and we will be evaluating the issue further with the event," they said in a statement.

Former Olympic singles bronze medallist Zvonareva has won 12 career singles titles. She is also a four-time Grand Slam champion -- twice in doubles and twice mixed doubles  -- and helped Russia to victory in the Fed Cup in 2004 and 2008.

The Muscovite has fallen to 655th in the world from her career-high number two ranking in 2010.

Denmark Stun China In 90th Minute For Winning World Cup Return

Denmark ended a 16-year Women's World Cup absence with victory as a 90th-minute header from Amalie Vangsgaard broke China's hearts in Perth on Saturday. Having come on five minutes earlier, the substitute soared highest to give Denmark a 1-0 victory and stun the crowd of 17,000 fans, most of whom were loudly supporting the Asian champions. "It's really been surreal, I'm very happy that's for sure," said 26-year-old Vangsgaard, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain.

"It was really important to get three points, (so we can) try to get further in the tournament."

It was a significant victory for Denmark between two similarly ranked teams in Group D, which is headlined by England. The Danes face them next.

"We expect a tough game, they are the European champions," Vangsgaard said.

"If we bring the energy that's in the locker room right now, I'm sure we're going to win."

Led by dynamic 22-year-old Zhang Linyan, China had been the aggressors in a match that failed to live up to great heights until the dramatic ending. Having been an early powerhouse in women's football, finishing runners-up in 1999, China had hoped a shock triumph at last year's Asian Cup could fuel a return to their former glory.

"I appreciate their efforts, but we didn't meet our goal (of a win) which is a pity," China coach Shui Qingxia said.

"We realise that we have some issues, but overall the strategy was fine and we'll improve in the future."

Star striker Wang Shuang surprisingly started on the bench, as an enterprising China dominated the early exchanges with their speed on the left wing rattling a nervous Denmark.

But they were let down by poor finishing with their best chance, from Zhang, forcing Denmark goalkeeper Lene Christensen into a low save to her left. Denmark, whose entire line-up comprised World Cup debutants, finally settled, with captain Pernille Harder assertive in her return from hamstring surgery.

But Denmark failed to penetrate a gritty China defence and their frustrations boiled over when Rikke Sevecke received a yellow card for shirt pulling just before half-time.

Wang came on after half-time and made an immediate impact, rifling a long-range shot, only to be thwarted by Christensen.

The contest opened up as both teams pressed, but Denmark's Josefine Hasbo missed a header in the 52nd minute with the goal at her mercy.

Djokovic's Father Hits Back At Journalist Over "Loser Of All Time" Post

Novak Djokovic's father has hit back at a journalist who labelled the 23-time Grand Slam champion as the 'loser of all times' following the defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in the final of Wimbledon last week. In the final, Djokovic was chasing unprecedented mark of a 24th Grand Slam in Open Era, but the top speed Spaniard Alcaraz came from a set down to outlcass the second seed in five sets. The defeat to Alcaraz was Djokovic's 12 in a Grand Slam final, the most among any player in men's singles tennis.

After the final, a Montenegrin journalist used the stat to take a swipe at Djokovic.

"Loser Of All Time". What did you do to him, Carlitos? So many illegal crazy volleys, slices and bombs that should be banned. And to inflame so much anger among lumberjacks who don't even know how to count games, but know enough to curse a 20-year-old boy who amazed the world? How many shepherds will stop watching tennis and cry in anguish on my wall? The Spaniard has given Novak a new nickname. LOAT, as many as 12 lost finals, the most in the Open Era, he is the 'loser of all times'," Nebojsa Sofranac, a Montenegrin journalist posted on Facebook.

Sofranac comment, however, didn't go down well with Djokovic's father, who slammed the journalist for the same.

"May God help that man. If he can even be helped, and if he really means everything he wrote," Srdjan Djokovic, Novak's father, told Serbian outlet Republika in an interview.

Notably, Djokovic overtook Roger Federer and Ivan Lendl as the player with most defeats in Grand Slam finals.

"Miracle": Twitter Reacts As Pakistan Achieve First Test Win In 365 Days

Pakistan opened their ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle campaign with a four-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test match at Galle on Thursday. With the win, the Babar Azam-led side ended a 365-day drought for a win in the longest format of the game. Saud Shakeel stood out for Pakistan with his maiden Test double century as Pakistan overcame a top-order collapse in the first innings to take a sizeable lead, and eventually come out on top against the hosts.

With Pakistan winning a Test for the first time in a year, fans took to Twitter to express their emotions.

Here's how Twitter reacted:

Notably, on this day last year, Pakistan had defeated Sri Lanka, also in Galle by the same margin.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam said on Thursday his team's latest Test hero Shakeel had stepped up his game and showcased new shots in his match-winning unbeaten 208.

The visitors won the first Test in Galle by four wickets after opener Imam-ul-Haq hit an unbeaten 50 to anchor a tricky chase of 131 on the final day to lead the two-match series 1-0.

"Saud has improved a lot. He has been working hard after the New Zealand series," Azam said of the man of the match.

"He attended two camps in Lahore and Karachi. I spoke with him and he told me he had developed a few shots which he applied in this innings.

"As captain, I am very satisfied with his performance. When he came to bat we had lost four wickets and Saud and Salman built the partnership."

Australia Retain David Warner For Fourth Ashes Test

David Warner has kept his place in Australia's XI for the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford despite the opener's ongoing struggles against England paceman Stuart Broad. But spinner Todd Murphy could be omitted when the match starts Wednesday as Australia contemplate going into a Test without a frontline slow bowler for the first time in 11 years. Australia captain Pat Cummins, bidding to lead the side to a first Ashes series win in England since 2001 at 2-1 up with two to play, said Tuesday that Warner would continue to open alongside Usman Khawaja. Warner managed just five runs in total as he fell twice to Broad during England's three-wicket win in the third Test at Headingley.

Broad has now dismissed the left-hander 17 times in Tests and could equal the record for most dismissals by a bowler against a single batsman at this level -- held by Australia great Glenn McGrath, who claimed the wicket of former England captain Mike Atherton 19 times –- if he does another double over Warner in Manchester.

But Cummins said Warner's role in three partnerships over 50 had helped Ashes-holders Australia establish their series lead and backed the 36-year-old, averaging a meagre 23.5 after six innings, to return to form this week.

"Davey didn't have his best game last week at Headingley but prior to that, I think he's looked really good –- he's had three fifty-run partnerships which can be rare over here in England," Cummins told an Old Trafford news conference on Tuesday.

The fast bowler added: "We back Davey, absolutely. We know how tough it can be to open over here. He's doing all the right things, he's shown some great signs and I'm sure a big score is just around the corner."

Cummins also confirmed Josh Hazlewood would replace fellow seamer Scott Boland, who has taken just two wickets in two Tests at a hugely expensive average of 115.5.

Meanwhile, fit-again all-rounder Cameron Green could replace Murphy after the novice spinner bowled just 9.3 overs at Headingley following Nathan Lyon's tour-ending calf injury in the second Test at Lord's.

"Nathan Lyon is the greatest off-spinner we've ever had so it's not quite apples for apples (in comparing him to Murphy)," Cummins said.

"We are really excited by Todd, we think he's fantastic. He's got a big future. It was more conditions or the way I used him, as opposed to how he bowled."

Australia only need a draw in Manchester to retain the Ashes. But having been in the shared 2019 series in England, Cummins is determined to lead Australia to an outright Ashes campaign win this season and so crown a tour that has also seen his side defeat India in the World Test Championship final at The Oval.

Rain is forecast to fall in Manchester later this week, with Tests at Old Trafford infamous for being interrupted by bad weather.

"The first preference is always to try to win," said Cummins. "We drew the 2019 series and we've all come back pretty clear we want to win this one."

Watch: Alcaraz Has Surprise Well-Wisher In Djokovic Jr. Post Wimbledon Win

Carlos Alcaraz left everyone impressed with his brilliant performance to beat Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon men's singles final on Sunday. It was the first Wimbledon title for the 20-year-old Spaniard who had earlier won the US Open 2022 title after defeating Casper Ruud. In a video posted by the official Wimbledon handle on YouTube, Alcaraz could be seen waving at the fans inside the All England Club before he meets Djokovic's family. He shook hands with Djokovic's son Stefan and then he was greeted by Djokovic's wife Jelena who had a small chat with the youngster.

World number one Alcaraz recovered from dropping the first set and saving a set point in the second to win 1-6, 7-6 (8/6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 after four hours and 42 minutes on Centre Court.

It was a second major for the 20-year-old Spaniard following his US Open title last year as he became Wimbledon's third youngest men's champion.

The result will also spark feverish speculation over the start of a generational shift, with 36-year-old Djokovic carrying the torch of the 'Big Three' now that Roger Federer is retired and Rafael Nadal is sidelined, perhaps permanently.

Australian Open and French Open champion Djokovic had been bidding to equal Federer's record of eight Wimbledon titles, match Margaret Court's all-time mark of 24 Slams and become the All England Club's oldest men's champion.

"You inspire me a lot," Alcaraz told Djokovic after becoming the third Spanish winner of the title, following in the footsteps of Manuel Santana in 1966 and Nadal in 2008 and 2010.

"I started playing tennis watching you. Since I was born you were already winning tournaments. It is amazing," he added with a smile after firing 66 winners past the Serb, off-setting his 45 unforced errors.

"I fall in love with grass right now. It's amazing."

Sindhu, Srikanth Restart Quest For 1st Title Of Season In Pre-Olympic Year

PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth will look for consistency in their quest for the season's maiden title when they begin their campaign at the Korea Open, which lost a bit of sheen following the withdrawal of some key players, including Lakshya Sen. A title has eluded Sindhu this year with more than half the season already over. She has not been able to string together a series of wins in a week after returning from a five-month long injury lay-off following a stress fracture on her ankle. The two-time Olympic medallist had reached the final of the Madrid Spain Masters, her best finish this season. She showed sparks when she reached the semifinals of Canada Open but made a quarterfinal exit in the next event after going down to China's Gao Fang Jie in the US Open.

The world No. 12 Indian will have to quickly recover from the loss when she opens her campaign in the Super 500 tournament against Chinese Taipei's Pai Yu Po. A favourable result is likely to pit her against China's Olympic champion Chen Yu Fei.

With new coach Muhammad Hafiz Hashim, a former All England champion, also travelling with her this week, Sindhu will hope she finds her footing quickly in the Olympic qualification period which ends in April next year.

Srikanth, the 2021 World Championships silver medallist, too has blown hot and cold, reaching the quarterfinals at Spain Masters, Malaysia Masters and Indonesia Open.

The former world number one will hope to put up a good show this week when he opens against Japan's Kento Momota after having trained with his new coach Wiempie Mahardi of Indonesia.

While titles eluded Sindhu and Srikanth, Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy managed to claim Super 500 crowns at Canada and Malaysia this year.

But this week, Sen will be out of action as he pulled out of the tournament but fifth seed Prannoy would be hoping to hold on to his form when he opens against Belgium's Julien Carraggi, who was promoted after the withdrawal of India's Sameer Verma.

All eyes will also be on Indonesia Open champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty when they take the court against Thailand's Supak Jomkoh and Kittinupong Kedren in the men's doubles.

The third seeded Indian pair, who also claimed the Swiss Open Super 300 title, has been simply sensational this season and will be one of the favourites to clinch another title.

The men's singles draw will also have Orleans Masters champion Priyanshu Rajawat, national champion Mithun Manjunath and 2022 Odisha Open winner Kiran George.

While Rajawat will face a qualifier, Mithun is pitted against Malaysia's Ng Tze Yong and Kiran will square off against Wang Tzu Wei of Chinese Taipei.

In the women's singles, Aakarshi Kashyap and Malvika Bansod will face uphill task against China's Zhang Yi Man and Olympic silver medallist Tai Tzu Ying respectively.

Ashmita Chaliha, Tasnim Mir and Tanya Hemanth were also promoted to the main draw after a series of withdrawals in the women's draw.

Among others, men's doubles pair of Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala also pulled out of the event but MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila are in fray.

Arjun and Dhruv will face eighth seeded Chinese pair of Liu Yu Chen and Ou Xuan Yi.

Commonwealth Games bronze medallists Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand too will look for a good outing. The duo has been handed a walkover by their first-round opponents, Bulgarian sisters Gabriela Stoeva and Stefani Stoeva.

The World number 18 pair will face second seeded Korean pair of Baek Ha Na and Lee So Hee in the second round.

However, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa, and Panda sisters -- Rutaparna and Swetaparna -- pulled out at the last moment.

N Sikki Reddy and Ashwini will also pair up with their respective partners Rohan Kapoor and B Sumeeth Reddy in the mixed doubles competition.

BAN vs AFG: Bangladesh Win T20I Series Against Afghanistan For First Time

Opener Liton Das top-scored with 35 as Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by six wickets in the second Twenty20 international to take the two-match series 2-0 on Sunday. Liton laid the foundation for the win with a 67-run opening stand with Afif Hossain (24) as Bangladesh raced to 119-4 in 16.1 overs after Taskin Ahmed's 3-33 helped the side restrict Afghanistan to 116-7 in a rain-reduced 17 overs. Bangladesh won the opening match of the series by two wickets on Friday, and Sunday's follow-up -- both of them in the northeastern city of Sylhet -- earned them their third consecutive T20 series win, and their first against Afghanistan in three attempts.

They defeated world champions England 3-0 and Scotland 2-1 earlier this year.

Off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman gave Afghanistan a lifeline to save the series by removing Liton and Afif in the space of three balls after their solid stand before Azmatullah Omarzai bowled Najmul Hossain for four.

But skipper Shakib Al Hasan and young Towhid Hridoy forged a 31-run stand for the fourth wicket to prevent further collapse.

"We lost couple of wickets, but given the start we had, we were always ahead," Shakib said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

"Given the ground conditions, I knew their spinners would have it tough."

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan refused to make any excuses.

"Weather is not an excuse for a team. T20 should be decided on skills and we were not good enough there, especially in batting," he said.

Omarzai dismissed Towhid for 19 before finishing with 2-17 but Shakib, with his unbeaten 18, took Bangladesh home.

Shakib also played a hand with the ball to claim 2-15, and Mustafizur Rahman claimed 2-30 as Bangladesh, electing to bowl first, made Afghanistan struggle.

Rain halted play for one-and-a-half hours after just seven overs, prompting the match officials to reduce the contest to 17 overs per side.

Afghanistan were already struggling, losing both openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (eight) and Hazratullah Zazai (four) to Taskin with 16 runs on the board.

Mustafizur removed Mohammad Nabi for 16 after play resumed, and in the next over Shakib dismissed both Ibrahim Zadran (22) and Najibullah Zadran, reducing Afghanistan to 67-5.

But Omarzai and Karim Janat put on 42 runs for the sixth wicket to revive the innings.

Mustafizur ended Omarzai's 21-ball knock of 25 forcing him to give Shamim Hossain a catch at deep third man.

Janat was out to Taskin in the final over for 22.

Bangladesh won the one-off Test match by a record 546 runs while Afghanistan won the three-match one-day international series 2-1.

Watch: Alcaraz Breaks Down On Court After Clinching Maiden Wimbledon Title

Carlos Alcaraz defeated seven-time champion Novak Djokovic to claim his first Wimbledon title on Sunday, shattering the Serb's dream of a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam crown.

Australian Open and French Open champion Djokovic had been bidding to equal Federer's record of eight Wimbledon titles and match Margaret Court's all-time mark of 24 Slams.

When he won his first major at the Australian Open in 2008, Alcaraz was still three months shy of his fifth birthday.

Djokovic was playing in his ninth final at Wimbledon and 35th at the majors, while for Alcaraz it was just a second in the Slams following his US Open triumph.

The Serb went into the match not having lost on Centre Court since his 2013 final defeat to Andy Murray and he hit with relentless precision in the first set.

Alcaraz, who had been crippled by body cramping in his loss to Djokovic in the French Open semi-final in June, was unable to settle and let a break point slip away in the seven-minute opening game.

Djokovic took advantage and raced into a 5-0 lead on the back of a double break before the Spaniard got on the board.

It was too little, too late as Djokovic claimed the opening set with a smash.

But Alcaraz finally freed himself of his shackles and broke for 2-1 in the second set.

Djokovic hit straight back in the third game before saving a break point in the fourth, coming out on top of a 29-shot rally.

The Serb was hit with a time violation in the tie-break before seeing a set point saved.

Alcaraz needed no second invitation when he carved out and converted a set point to level the contest with a backhand winner.

The marathon set had taken 85 minutes as Djokovic's run of 15 tie-breaks won in a row at the majors ended.

Alcaraz broke in the opening game of the third set and again after an exhausting 26-minute fifth game, which went to 13 deuces and saw Djokovic save six break points before he cracked on the seventh.

Alcaraz backed it up with a rapid-fire service game which took just two minutes in comparison and broke again against the dispirited defending champion to move two sets to one ahead.

Djokovic argued with umpire Fergus Murphy over his monitoring of the shot clock and did little to endear himself with the crowd by taking a lengthy toilet break before the fourth set.

However, the break worked wonders as the Serb broke twice in the set, levelling the final courtesy of Alcaraz's seventh double fault of the final.

Djokovic wasted a golden chance to break for 2-0 in the decider with a wild smash and Alcaraz made him pay, breaking for 2-1.

A frustrated Djokovic collected another code violation for destroying his racquet against the net post before he slipped 3-1 down.

Alcaraz was not to be denied and he claimed a famous victory when Djokovic buried a forehand in the net.

'My Most Painful Loss': Tearful Ons Jabeur Vows To End Grand Slam Misery

Tearful Wimbledon runner-up Ons Jabeur described her third defeat in a Grand Slam final as the "most painful" of her career as she vowed to learn from the tennis greats who were also jinxed at the majors. World number six Jabeur was beaten 6-4, 6-4 by unseeded Czech Marketa Vondrousova on Saturday, one year after she lost the Wimbledon final to Elena Rybakina. More pain followed at the US Open later in the year where she was runner-up again, this time to Iga Swiatek. The 28-year-old is only the eighth woman to lose her first three Grand Slam finals. However, she can take comfort from knowing that the likes of Chris Evert, Kim Clijsters and Simona Halep also suffered the same fate before going on to capture Grand Slam titles.

"It will be tough to speak. I am going to look ugly in the photos so that's not going to help," said Jabeur after again being thwarted in her bid to become the first Arab or African woman to win a Grand Slam singles title.

"I think this is the most painful loss of my career."

She added defiantly: "I promise I will come back one day and win this tournament."

Former world number one Clijsters lost the 2001 and 2003 French Open finals, the US Open title match in 2003 and the Australian Open final in 2004.

But the Belgian eventually ended her career as a four-time major champion, winning her first in New York in 2005.

"I love Kim so much. She's a great inspiration for me," said Jabeur who was consoled by Clijsters behind the scenes at Centre Court.

"The fact that she takes the time to give me advice and to really hug me, always be there for me, I think it's priceless.

"She was telling me all the time she lost four. That's why I know the information, otherwise would have been tough. But, yeah, that's the positive out of it. You cannot force things. It wasn't meant to be."

The popular Jabeur also received a warm embrace from Kate, the Princess of Wales, who presented the trophies.

"She didn't know if she wants to give me a hug or not. I told her hugs are always welcome from me. That was a very nice moment and she's always nice to me," Jabeur said.

When asked what Princess Kate told her following, she revealed: "Same thing after last year.

"To encourage me to be strong, to come back and win a Grand Slam, win a Wimbledon. Obviously she was very nice."

Jabeur led 2-0 and 4-2 in the first set on Saturday before the 24-year-old Vondrousova hit back.

The Tunisian's 15 unforced errors in the first set were key as the Czech left-hander committed a miserly six.

Jabeur was 3-1 ahead in the second set but still couldn't convert the advantage as Vondrousova, who missed last year's Wimbledon due to wrist surgery, mounted another comeback.

"It's painful because you feel so close to achieving something that you want, and actually back to square one," added Jabeur.

"Again, I just try to get rid of these negative thoughts and continue being positive."

Watch: Ravichandran Ashwin Scalps Chanderpaul For Unique 'Father-Son' Feat

The first session of the first Test between India and West Indies at Dominica belonged to the visitors. Ravichandran Ashwin removed both the hosts' openers with his sheer artistry as West Indies crawled to 68 for 4 at lunch against India on the opening day of the first Test, here on Wednesday. Shardul Thakur (1/7 in 3 overs), operating as the third seamer in overseas conditions for the first time, continued with his happy knack of picking wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja (1/6 in 2 overs) also found his name in wickets column due to a magnificent catch by Mohammed Siraj to dismiss Jermaine Blackwood (14).

Opting to bat first, West Indies openers Tagenarine Chanderpaul (12, 44 balls) and Kraigg Brathwaite (20 off 46 balls) went into a shell during the first hour as both Siraj (0/17 in 8 overs) and Jaydev Unadkat (0/7 in 5 overs) settled down to a nice fuller Test match length, beating the outside edge of both openers on multiple occasions.

The pressure created by the pace duo did reap dividends as Ashwin (2/25 in 10 overs) slowed the pace of his deliveries, used the available drift to a good advantage to make life uncomfortable for the two openers.

There was a nice loop and he did challenge both inside and outside edge during the second hour.

Tagenarine's stance and trigger shuffle from leg to off-stump does have an uncanny resemblance with his illustrious father Shivnarine although he is slightly more side-on compared to his 'Old Man'.

Sensing his shuffle, Ashwin got one to hang in the air and drift into the southpaw, who played inside the line only to find it beat his outside edge after pitching and there was a death rattle. His wicket made Ashwin the first bowler to scalp a father-son duo. Ashwin had earlier dismisses Shivnarine's father in a Test match in Delhi .

West Indies skipper Brathwaite, easily the best Test batter in the side over the last five years, was increasingly getting frustrated as Ashwin bowled slightly quicker at times to him.

He did try to hit out of trouble with a slog swept boundary but the canny operator fired one across the line, inducing Brathwaite to go for a mindless bottom-handed slog over mid-on. However the mistimed slog only became easiest skiers for skipper Rohit Sharma stationed at cover.

Left-handed Raymon Reifer (2 off 18 balls) never looked in control as Siraj softened him up with some short balls.

So when Shardul, who is a notch slower came into the attack, he wanted to come on front-foot and get his cover drive going. Shardul quuckly slipped one across the stumps and the thick outside edge was snapped by a diving Ishant Kishan behind the stumps.
