IPL 2023: Tim David Steals The Show As MI Beat RR By 6 Wickets In Run-Fest
An unbeaten 62-run partnership between middle-order batters Tilak Varma (29 not out) and Tim David (45 not out), coupled with a half-century by Suryakumar Yadav (55), helped Mumbai Indians defeat Rajasthan Royals by six wickets in an Indian Premier League match on Sunday. Mumbai Indians chased down the target of 213 with three balls to spare, reaching 214 for 4 in 19.3 overs. Young Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal's fine century and a 72-run partnership with skipper Jos Buttler went in vain as the team suffered a defeat despite putting a mammoth score on the board.
Jaiswal's 124 off 62 balls, studded with 16 boundaries and eight maximums, came off just 62 deliveries at a strike rate of 200.
Brief Scores: Rajasthan Royals: 212 for 7 in 20 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 124; Arshad Khan 3/39). Mumbai Indians: 214 for 4 in 19.3 overs (Cameron Green 44, Suryakumar Yadav 55, Tim David 45 not out; R Ashwin 2/27).

IPL 2023: Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen Star In SRH's 9-Run Win vs DC
Mitchell Marsh dished out one of his finest all-round performances but it wasn't enough as Sunrisers Hyderabad returned to winning ways with a comprehensive nine-run win over Delhi Capitals in the IPL on Saturday. The hard-hitting Australian all-rounder first snapped four wickets and then blasted six maximums in his 39-ball 63-run knock to conjure up hopes of a successful chase but once he was out, things went downhill for the hosts on the sluggish Kotla track. Batting first, Abhishek Sharma slammed a 36-ball 67 to set the stage for Heinrich Klaasen, who provided the final flourish with an unbeaten 53 as SRH posted an impressive 197 for 6.
In reply, Delhi lost skipper David Warner for a second-ball duck but Philip Salt (59) and Marsh took the attack to the opposition with a 112-run partnership off just 66 balls to lay a solid ground to their run chase.
With the duo in full flow, 57 runs came in the powerplay as left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein conceded 30 in his three overs.
Marsh clobbered Umran Malik for two maximums and Salt produced two good hits to amass 22 runs off the over, while Abhishek was punished for bowling wrong length with Marsh slamming a four and six.
An incredible caught and bowled effort from Mayank Markande finally broke the partnership with Salt back in the pavilion. Soon, Abhishek got rid of Manish Pandey and when Marsh holed out to Markram off Hosein, it left DC at 125 for 4 in the 14th over.
Needing 69 off 36 balls, SRH tightened the screws to limit DC to 188 for six in 20 overs with Axar Patel scoring 29 off 14 balls.
With the win, SRH snapped their three-match losing streak to remain alive in the competition. They are bow in the eighth spot with six points, while DC stayed at the bottom.
Earlier, back at the top, Abhishek seemed to be batting on a different track, slamming 12 fours and a six, even as the others struggled on the two-paced wicket.
While the southpaw looked in good rhythm, the rest of the top and middle order continued to disappoint, scoring in single digits.
But Klaasen's 27-ball-knock ensured that momentum is not lost with as many as 62 runs coming off last five overs.
The South African added 53 of 33 balls with Abdul Samad (28 off 21 balls) and 35 off 18 balls with Akeal Hosein (16 off 10 balls) as SRH posted the highest score at the Kotla this season.
For DC, Mitchell Marsh was the best bowler in display, returning with figures of 4-1-27-4, while Axar Patel (1/29) picked up a solitary wicket. Ishant Sharma also got one but he was expensive in his three overs.
The stylish Abhishek was particularly harsh on Ishant Sharma, picking up back-to-back boundaries before pulling him for another four in the midwicket region.
Mayank Agarwal, however, didn't look comfortable and his misery was ended by Ishant with a well-directed bouncer. Rahul Tripathi sent one from Mukesh Kumar over the keeper for a six before falling to Mitchell Marsh.
Ishant was again on the firing line of Abhishek, who smashed him for four boundaries more in the sixth over as 16 runs came off it, helping SRH to end the powerplay at 62 for 2.
Kuldeep Yadav could have dismissed Abhishek but Anrich Nortje spilled a regulation catch at the boundary and the opener rubbed salt on the bowler's wound with a slogsweep for a maximum to bring up his fifty. Abhishek took 25 balls to reach the milestone.
Marsh was rewarded for bowling his cutters and back of length scrambled seam deliveries as he dismissed Markram and Harry Brook in a double wicket maiden over. Sunrisers reached 83 for 4 in 10 overs.
Medium pacer Mukesh Kumar was next taken to the cleaners with Abhishek smashing two fours in the first two balls and Klaasen clobbering him for a four and maximum.
The 11th over yielded 24 runs, taking SRH over the 100-mark in the process.
Abhishek was finally dismissed in the 12th over when he tried to go for a slog off Axar. Klaasen then teed off during the death overs to ensure an above-par score for visitors.

Daryl Mitchell hit a second successive century while Tom Latham missed a ton by two runs as New Zealand piled up 336-5 in the second one-day international against Pakistan in Rawalpindi on Saturday. The stylish one-drop batter improved on his 113 in the first ODI on Thursday with 129 for 119 balls, and was ably supported by Latham (98) and Chad Bowes (51) after New Zealand were sent in to bat by Pakistan. Mitchell smashed three sixes and eight boundaries and consolidated the innings through a third-wicket stand of 183 with skipper Latham, as the pair took full advantage of a flat pitch.
Mitchell was finally caught brilliantly by Mohammad Nawaz off pacer Naseem Shah in the 46th over, while Latham was caught behind off Haris Rauf an over later.

It was Naseem who gave Mitchell an extra life four short of his hundred when he dropped a simple catch off spinner Usama Mir at mid-on.

That allowed Mitchell to complete his hundred off 102 balls -- his third in his ODI career.
Latham knocked eight boundaries and a six off 85 balls.
Bowes and Will Young gave New Zealand a 33-run start before pacer Rauf had Young caught behind for 19 in the sixth over.
Bowes, who hit seven boundaries in his maiden ODI half century, steadied the innings with Mitchell as the pair added 86 for the second wicket.
It was Rauf again who broke the stand when he trapped Bowes leg before wicket in the 19th over.
Rauf was the pick of bowlers with 4-78.
Pakistan lead the five-match series 1-0 after winning the first match by five wickets, also in Rawalpindi.

"Even Dhoni Has Spoken...": Ex India Star On Rahanes Resurrection At CSK
The revival of veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane in T20 cricket has been a surprise to many. Bought by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for his base price of INR 50 lakh, Rahane has done wonders with the bat for the franchise, emerging as one of the top run-getters in the competition. His heroics with the bat also seems to have played a role in his return to the national team for the ICC World Test Championship final. While Rahane has been the talk of the two for a few weeks now, former India batter Pravin Amre revealed that even MS Dhoni has been talking about the technique that the veteran India star has shown this campaign.
"We just reminded him how he came into the international arena through T20 (39-ball 61 at Old Trafford, in August 2011). It's a coincidence that his T20 performance has helped him make a comeback. Hard work always pays, when he was dropped nobody thought he will come back. He had a very good Ranji season, and got a double hundred. We are seeing the new version of Ajinkya, people are really surprised the way he is hitting the ball so long while playing proper cricketing shots," Amre was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Rahane has always been considered a technically sound batter. But, he was never really seen as a T20 specialist since the shortest format of the game has seen players with brute force and muscle excel more as batters. However, Amre debunked that myth as he revealed how much CSK skipper Dhoni has been impressed seeing Rahane use his technique to excel in T20s for Chennai.
"His game is built on timing and he has got it back," said Amre. "Even Dhoni has spoken about his technique. People wrongly say that technique is not important in T20s. I am very happy because as coaches we always insisted on technique, it really matters in T20," Amre said.

Earlier Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra on Friday came in support of the ongoing wrestlers' protest and said that he was 'hurt' to see athletes on the streets demanding justice.
"It hurts me to see our athletes on the streets demanding justice. They have worked hard to represent our great nation and make us proud," the Tokyo Olympics gold medallist said in a tweet on Friday. Indian wrestlers have been protesting at Jantar Mantar here in the national capital against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over allegations of sexual harassment.
Top Indian grapplers such as Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, and many other wrestlers are involved in the protest against the WFI chief.
Having waited for three months, star wrestlers like Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia again started their protest against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Sunday and said that they took the step after alleging that no action has been taken in the matter and said that the FIR had not been registered against the WFI chief.

Updated IPL Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap List After RR vs CSK Game
Rajasthan Royals played a near-perfect game as the Sanju Samson-led side defeated Chennai Super Kings in an IPL 2023 game in Jaipur on Thursday. Promising Yashasvi Jaiswal once again displayed his talent as he conjured up a brilliant half-century before Rajasthan Royals spinners choked Chennai Super Kings to register a comfortable 32-run win and move to the top of the IPL table. Jaiswal (77 off 43) continued his rich form with his third fifty of the tournament before Devdutt Padikkal (24 not out) and Dhruv Jurel (34 off 15) provided the final flourish to register the highest total -- 202 for five -- at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
Spinners Adam Zampa (3/22 in 3 overs) and Ravichandran Ashwin (2/35) then shared five wickets between them to restrict CSK to 170 for 6 despite Ruturaj Gaikwad (47) and Shivam Dube's (52) best efforts.
With the win, the Royals moved to the top of the table, while CSK drop down to third.
Orange Cap, Purple Cap
Royal Challengers Bangalore's Faf du Plessis continues to be the leading run-getter with a tally of 422 in eight games. CSK's Devon Conway (322) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (317) hold the third and fourth sports respectively. As far as the leading wicket-takers are concerned, RCB's Mohammed Siraj and and Gujarat Titans' Rashid Khan and CSK's Tushar have 14 wickets each.
Talking about the game, in contrast to RR, CSK openers found the going tough before Gaikwad, who was dropped on four, broke the shackles and hit Jason Holder (0/49) for a four over mid on before cracking a six over deep backward square leg in the fourth over.
RR skipper Sanju Samson intensified the pressure by bowling spin from both ends and the move paid dividends.
Devon Conway (8) continued to struggle and with the required run rate increasing he was forced to hit a Zampa delivery flat to Sandeep Sharma at mid off.
Unperturbed by the wicket, Gaikwad kept stealing boundaries every over to keep the scoreboard ticking before Zampa struck once again to get rid of the dangerman.
CSK were 72 for two at the halfway mark.
Ashwin (2/35) then snared the wickets Ajinkya Rahane (15) and "Impact Player" Ambati Rayudu (0) to further dent CSK's chances. But Dube had different plans. He upped the ante, hitting some much-needed sixes to give CSK a glimmer of hope.
The all-rounder brought his third consecutive half century with the help of four sixes and two fours. However, he couldn't take his side over the line.

Harshal, Siraj Drop Sitters To Give Rana Two Lives. Trolled Heavily
Kolkata Knight Riders batters made merry at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium against Royal Challengers Bangalore in an IPL 2023 match on Wednesday. Fiery knocks from Jason Roy, Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh helped KKR notch a huge total of 200/5 in 20 overs. While the batters had a smooth outing, the same cannot be said about RCB stars Mohammed Siraj (4-0-33-1) and Harshal Patel (4-0-44-0). While they were costly with the ball, they were also poor in their fielding efforts. First, Siraj dropped KKR captain Nitish Rana, who was batting on 5, in the 13th over by Vijaykumar Vyshak. Then, Rana got yet another reprieve as he was dropped by Harshal in the 15th over off Siraj.
The duo was trolled heavily for the dropped chances.

Jason Roy led the show with a fiery fifty as Kolkata Knight Riders got their mojo back to notch a fighting 200 for five against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL on Wednesday. Having slipped to eighth spot after four losses on the trot, KKR finally got into the act with Roy setting tempo up front when he smashed five sixes and four boundaries en route to his 29-ball 56 as he and Narayan Jagadeesan (27; 29b) gave KKR their best ever start -- 83 runs from 56 balls.

U left the catch of Nitish Rana and conceded 2 sixes from him
Plz leave our team man#RCBvsKKR #KKRvsRCB#HarshalPatel
KKR's batting came on either side of Sri Lankan legspin sensation Hasaranga's two terrific bowling spells as he returned with 4-0-24-2 that caused enough flutter.
First, his miserly spell after the powerplay gave the impetus for Vyshak's double blow when he dismissed Jagadeesan and Roy.
But Nitish Rana then ensured that they don't lose the momentum as he made full use of his two reprieves -- on five and 19 -- to race to his 21-ball 48 (3x4, 4x6).
KKR's new-found hero Rinku Singh (18 not out; 10b) then took charge as he smashed two fours and one six to ensure that they reach the 200-mark.
David Wiese smacked two sixes to make an unbeaten 12.
Roy showed KKR how it's done in the powerplay, blazing his way to a 22-ball fifty, his second in a row to hand KKR their best ever start this season.
The Englishman showed his intent against the likes of RCB new ball bowlers and Mohammed Siraj and David Willey and unleashed his fury when leftarm spinner Shahbaz Ahmed was introduced in the last over of the powerplay.
Roy smoked him for four sixes in five balls in a 25-run over as KKR cruised to their highest powerplay score this season with 66 for no loss.
But all credit to willy Lankan spinner Hasaranga for a tidy over after the powerplay where he conceded just two runs to mount pressure on the duo.
Vyshak and Harshal Patel too tightened the noose as boundaries suddenly dried up and it was all the more evident on the duo.
Struggling to get big hits, Jagadeesan was done in by a Vyshak bouncer, while Roy got a peach of a delivery from the uncapped Indian who got a perfect legstump yorker to clean up the Englishman round his stump.

IPL 2023: Shubman Gill, Noor Ahmad Star In GT's 55-Run Win Over MI
Gujarat Titans produced a clinical performance to outclass Mumbai Indians by 55 runs in a completely one-sided IPL match on Tuesday. Set a stiff target of 208, MI were stopped at 152 for nine. MI didn't get the kind of start they would have liked and were struggling at 29 for the loss of captain Rohit Sharma's wicket in six overs, the team failing miserably to utilise the powerplay. While trying to work the ball on the onside, Rohit got a leading edge and ended up giving a return catch to his opposite number, Hardik Pandya, in the second over.
After the seamers have done their job, star leg-spinner Rashid Khan came on and bowled a very economical first over.
MI managed to score 13 runs in the seventh over, before Rashid ended Ishan Kishan's painstaking stay in the middle. Ishan consumed an many as 21 balls for his 13 runs.
Three balls later, Rashid had Tilak Varma trapped in front of the wicket to leave MI reeling at 45 for three in the eighth over.
From there, five-time winners MI could not do enough to challenge the defending champions.
After a forgettable outing with the ball where he was smashed around for 39 runs in two overs, Cameron Green chipped in with 33 off 26 balls, while Suryakumar Yadav contributed 23 in 12 balls. Nehal Wadhera smashed his way to 40 in just 21 deliveries, but their efforts only delayed the inevitable.
Besides Rashid's 2/27 in four overs, Noor Ahmad, the other spinner from Afghanistan, finished with impressive figures of 3/37 in his full quota of overs.
Earlier, GT's lower middle-order used the long handle to good effect and powered their team to a formidable 207 for six.
David Miller blazed away to a 22-ball 46, Rahul Tewatia smashed an unbeaten 20 in just five balls, while Abhinav Manohar needed only 21 deliveries to make 42 during a vital partnership of 71 runs for the fifth wicket with the South African.
This was after Shubman Gill made a neat 34-ball 56.
Arjun Tendulkar began on a promising note and conceded four runs in the opening over after his skipper Rohit opted to bowl first on winning the toss.
Gill got the first boundary of the match as the opener played one behind square off a Jason Behrendorff delivery that was slightly short.
MI didn't have to wait long for their first breakthrough as Wriddhiman Saha missed an attempted pull shot to edge one to the keeper off Tendulkar in the first ball of the third over.
Having taken his partner Gill's advice, Saha reviewed, but the on-field umpire's decision was retained by UltraEdge.
It was a nice comeback by Tendulkar junior, four days after being smacked for 48 runs in three overs by Punjab Kings. Growing in confidence, the 23-year-old left-arm seamer gave away just five runs.
With the help of few fours and a six, Gill gave the GT innings the momentum it needed after a quiet first five overs.
Gill collected 17 runs off Green's first as GT reached 50 for one at the end of the six powerplay overs.
However, defending champions GT suffered a major blow when Piyush Chawla (2/34) snared skipper Hardik caught in the deep by Suryakumar after the batter had made 13 off 14 balls.
GT were in for another shock as Gill, having played some fine shots on way to his brisk half-century, was sent back by Kumar Kartikeya to leave the team 91 for three at the start of the 12th over. Gill hit seven fours and a six.
Vijay Shankar was dismissed for 16-ball 19 before Manohar and Miller accelerated with their big hitting.
Manohar accumulated 17 runs off Chawla's final over to ruin his figures after three economical overs.
The duo of Manohar and Miller then amassed 22 runs in the 18th over bowled by Green, who was smashed for three sixes.
Finally, Riley Meredith took out Manohar in the beginning of the 19th over, out bowled as the batter looked to loft the ball over long-off.
Tewatia had a first ball six, before Miller ended the over with two more maximums.

Watch: Rohit Furious At Piyush After Poor Fielding Effort in GT vs MI Game
The Gujarat Titans batters were on a rampage against Mumbai Indians in an IPL 2023 game on Tuesday. Shubman Gill hit a half-century while David Miller and Abhinav Manohar too came up with vital contributions. GT notched a huge total of 207/6 in 20 overs. MI captain Rohit Sharma would have liked the total to be lower clearly. The IPL-winning skipper also looked frustrated when his teammate Piyush Chawla displayed a poor fielding effort. The incident happened on the third ball of the 17th over of GT innings with Riley Meredith bowling to Abhinav Manohar, who directed the yorker length delivery towards third man. Fielder Chawla, stationed at short third man, could not stop the ball as it went between his legs towards the boundary. Rohit was not happy at all and looked frustrated.

Updated IPL Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap List After SRH vs DC Game
The David Warner-led Delhi Capitals clinched a low-scoring thriller against SunRisers Hyderabad at the latter's home-ground in an IPL 2023 game on Monday. Off-spin allrounder Sundar (4-0-28-3) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (4-0-11-2) exposed the batting frailties of Delhi Capitals' in the first half of the game to restrict them to 144/9 after David Warner opted to bat. But an inexplicable batting approach in which SRH never looked to dominate led to their downfall as they were restricted to 137/6. Despite the win, DC are still at the bottom of the 10-team league with four points (NRR -0.961) in seven games. SRH are just above them with four points (NRR -0.725) in seven games. Chennai Super Kings lead the points table with 10 points (NRR +0.662) from seven games.
Orange Cap, Purple cap
Royal Challengers Bangalore's Faf du Plessis lead the highest run-scorers' list with a tally of 405 in seven games. DC skipper David Warner is third in the list with 306 runs in seven games. In the leading wicket-taker's lost, RCB's Mohammed Siraj and Punjab Kings' Arshdeep Singh have the joint-highest tally - 13.
Talking about the game, having lost half of their side for 85 runs in 14.1 overs, SRH's recovery was led by Heinrich Klaasen (31; 19b, 3x4, 1x6) and Sundar who came up with 15-ball 24 not out (3x4s).
But it proved not enough as Anrich Nortje (4-0-33-2) dismissed his South African temmate, before Mukesh Kumar bowled a terrific last over to defend 13 runs to hand Delhi a narrow yet thrilling second consecutive win of the season.
Delhi Capitals gradually strengthened their grip on the game by taking four wickets -- Agarwal, Rahul Tripathi (15), Abhishek Sharma (5) and Aiden Markam (3) in quick succession in the middle overs, and allowing a mere three fours between overs 5 to 15 which highlighted SRH's plight.

Watch: Anushka's Dance After Virat's Wild Celebration As RCB Beat RR
The crowd at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium was witness to Royal Challengers Bangalore's brilliant victory over Rajasthan Royals by seven runs on Sunday. Playing in their green jersey's, RCB posted a huge total of 189/9 in 20 overs, courtesy of fiery half-centuries from Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell. Later, RR were restricted to 182/6 after Harshal Patel scalped three wickets. The moment when RCB sealed their win, stand-in skipper Virat Kohli celebrated in his usual aggressive style. However, Virat's wife Anushka Sharma's unique celebration was a highlight of the day.
— CricDekho (@Hanji_CricDekho) April 23, 2023
RR needed 10 runs off 2 balls to win when Harshal bowled a slower length ball to Abdul Basith, who could only get a single. As soon as the ball did not go for a boundary, Virat was seen giving his aggressive expression while Anushka was seen adorably dancing in the stands to celebrate RCB's win.
Talking about the match, a late charge led by a cameo from Dhruv Jurel was not enough for Rajasthan Royals as a century stand between captain Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell set up a thrilling seven-run win for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Invited to bat, Maxwell (77 off 44 balls) and du Plessis (62 off 39 balls) shared 127 runs for the third wicket from only 66 deliveries to power RCB to 189 for 9 in 20 overs.
Devdutt Padikkal (52 off 34 balls) struck his maiden fifty of the season and Yashasvi Jaiswal made 47 for a 98-run partnership for the second wicket but the Royals were lagging behind in the run chase before gaining momentum in the last five overs.
Jurel played a small cameo of 34 not out off just 16 balls (2x4; 2x6) as the Royals scored 61 runs off the last five overs, losing three wickets in the process. But they fell short by seven runs in the end, reaching to 182 for 6 in 20 overs.
The Royals needed 20 runs off the final over bowled by Harshal Patel but could score only 12.

Newcastle Hit Troubled Tottenham For Six To Shatter Their Top Four Bid
Tottenham's bid to qualify for the Champions League suffered a hammer blow as they conceded five times in the first 21 minutes of a humiliating 6-1 defeat at top-four rivals Newcastle on Sunday. Cristian Stellini's side were buried by an avalanche of goals from Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak, who both netted twice, and strikes from Joelinton and Callum Wilson. Harry Kane's reply was no consolation for woeful Tottenham, who look certain to miss out on a place in the Premier League's top four after a second successive loss.
The north Londoners are six points behind third-placed Newcastle and fourth-placed Manchester United, having played two more games than United and one more than Newcastle.
Fifth-placed Tottenham host United on Thursday and a defeat against Erik ten Hag's team would surely end their faint hopes of salvaging their troubled campaign.
"It was my responsibility to decide how we play. We decided to do it differently because of the injuries, but it was wrong," interim boss Stellini said of switching to a back four.
"It's very difficult to understand why the first 25 minutes were so bad. We were not prepared to play this type of tough game. To suffer, control the space and win duels."
There is a bleak future ahead for Tottenham, who have no permanent manager lined up for next season and no director of football after Fabio Paratici's resignation on Friday.
Paratici stepped down after failing in his appeal against a 30-month worldwide FIFA ban for his involvement in allegations of false accounting at his former club Juventus.
Tottenham's heaviest defeat of the season was a new low for a club already in turmoil after Antonio Conte's departure by "mutual consent" in March after just 16 months in charge.
Conte had exposed the rifts behind the scenes at Tottenham when he called the players "selfish" and criticised the club's culture in an explosive rant after their draw at lowly Southampton.
Tottenham haven't won a major trophy since 2008 and their latest setback could increase the chances of England striker Harry Kane asking to leave in the close season.
Fans are also unhappy with chairman Daniel Levy, who has gone through a host of unsuccessful managers since sacking the popular Mauricio Pochettino in 2019.
- Sorry Spurs -
Tottenham captain Lloris apologised to supporters, admitting the performance was "embarrassing", and accused his team-mates of lacking "pride".
In contrast to Tottenham's struggles, Newcastle are riding the crest of a wave that should carry them into the Champions League for the first time since 2003, when they were eliminated in the qualifying rounds.
Revived by the financial muscle of their Saudi-backed ownership group and boss Eddie Howe's astute leadership, Newcastle reached their first cup final since 1999 earlier this season when they lost to Manchester United in the League Cup showpiece.
"You don't expect that. The quality of our finishing was incredible," Howe said.
"Since I walked through the door here the players have responded so well. I can't thank them enough."
Newcastle took just 61 seconds to put Tottenham to the sword as Murphy fired into the roof of the net from close range.
They doubled their lead after six minutes when Joelinton rounded Lloris to slot into the empty net.
The rampant Magpies scored a stunning third goal in the ninth minute as Murphy unleashed a 25-yard drive that swerved past Lloris.
Howe's men were the first team to score three goals within the opening nine minutes of a Premier League match since Manchester City against Burnley in 2010.
By the time Isak scored Newcastle's fourth and fifth goals, Tottenham's shell-shocked fans were already heading for the exits.
It was the second fastest 5-0 lead in Premier League history after Manchester City, who took 18 minutes to do it against Watford in 2019.
Kane reduced the deficit in the 49th minute before Wilson stabbed home in the 67th minute to complete Tottenham's misery.
In Sunday's other game, West Ham boosted their bid to avoid relegation with a 4-0 victory at Bournemouth thanks to goals from Michail Antonio, Lucas Paqueta, Declan Rice and Pablo Fornals.

IPL 2023: Arshdeep Gets Due Credit From Rohit For His Stunning Show vs MI
After being trolled for delivering too many no-balls in international cricket, pacer Arshdeep Singh bounced back in style as he regained his status of being one of the best death bowlers in the current times. In the recent IPL match against Mumbai Indians, the 23-year-old pacer not only defended 16 runs off the last over for Punjab Kings but also finished the game with the figures of 4/29. Arshdeep dismissed the likes of Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Nehal Wadhera, where the last two were removed in the 20th over. The young pacer has been receiving a lot of praise from all over the world but one praise that he will definitely remember for many years was from India and Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma.
After the match, Rohit also expressed disappointment with his side's death bowling as his team conceded a total of 109 in the last six overs.
"Yes, a little disappointment there, we made some errors in the field which can happen, not gonna look too much into that (On his side's death bowling). Just keep our heads high, we have won three and lost three, pretty even-stevens at the moment. There is a lot of time left in the tournament. We cannot look down and start worrying about things. Yes, we did not come out on top today. We made some errors but something to go back and look into," said Rohit in a post-match presentation.
"(On Green and Suryakumar Yadav) Quite happy with the way those two guys batted today and they kept us in the game till the end. Credit to Arshdeep for the way he bowled in the last couple of overs," he added.
Arshdeep shattered stumps at will in a tense final over as Punjab Kings were back to winning ways with a 13-run victory over Mumbai Indians in a high-scoring entertainer in IPL, on Saturday.
After Sam Curran's 29-ball 55 led Punjab Kings to a massive 214 for 8, Mumbai Indians took the game into the final over due to fine counter-attack from Cameron Green (67 off 43 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (57 off 26 balls). The duo added 75 off only 36 balls.
Arshdeep struck a decisive blow in the 18th over to dismiss an on-song Suryakumar with Mumbai needing another 33 from 15 balls, and bowled an impressive final over while accounting for Tilak Varma (3) and Nehal Wadhera (0) to return with figures of 4-0-29-4.
However the hosts only managed 201 for 6 as Arshdeep broke the middle-stump in back-to-back deliveries to sent NT Tilak Verma and Nehal Wadhera packing.

Watch: MS Dhoni's Heartwarming Moment With SRH Pacer's 2-Year-Old Daughter
Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni shared a sweet moment with Sunrisers Hyderabad fast bowler T Natarajan's two-year-old daughter after their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 encounter on Saturday. In a video posted on social media, Dhoni can be seen interacting with Natarajan's family and the ex-India captain told Natarajan's daughter that he himself has a daughter and he then shook her hand. In a video that CSK posted after their match against Lucknow Super Giants, Dhoni was also seen interacting with Krishnappa Gowtham's daughter.

Devon Conway's fearless unbeaten knock of 77 runs and Ravindra Jadeja's magnificent spell helped Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clinch a 7-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
CSK started their chase of 135 with Ruturaj Gaikwad slamming a boundary off Bhuvneshwar Kumar's delivery. Gaikwad and Devon Conway were off to a spectacular start with the bat and released pressure straightaway. The duo made optimum use of the field restrictions and produced 23 runs off the final over of the powerplay as they moved to 60/0.
Both the openers complimented each other very well and the Chennai Super Kings were cruising in the chase. Devon Conway reached his half-century off just 34 deliveries as the home side were 86/0 at the halfway mark.
SRH finally produced a breakthrough in one of the most unusual ways as Gaikwad was run-out at the non-striker's end after the ball touched Umran Malik's hand in his followthrough. The visitors didn't give up as Mayank Markande claimed the wickets of Ajinkya Rahane and impact player Ambati Rayudu in no time.
However, Conway remained unbeaten in the end and finished the job for CSK, who completed a clinical victory by 7 wickets.
Earlier, Jadeja's three-wicket haul helped CSK restrict SRH to 134/7. For CSK, Jadeja bagged three while Akash Singh, Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana claimed one wicket each. For SRH, Abhishek Sharma scored the highest with 34 off 26 while Rahul Tripathi played a knock of 21 runs.
Opted to field first, CSK received a fine start as their bowlers kept Sunrisers Hyderabad openers Harry Brook and Abhishek Sharma on their toes with their quality bowling. In the 5th over of the game, Akash Singh drew first blood as he removed SRH opener Brook for his individual score of 18.
The right-handed batter Rahul Tripathi then came out to bat. Tripathi and Abhishek handled SRH's charge as they kept piling runs for their team, slamming boundaries regularly. However, their partnership was broken by Ravindra Jadeja who dismissed well-set batter Abhishek for 34 in the 10th over of the game.
Abhishek's wicket invited right-handed batter and captain Aiden Markram to the crease. Hyderabad lost their two main players in under two overs as Jadeja first cleared Tripathi for 21 and then in the 13th over Maheesh Theekshana dismissed Markram for 12.
Heinrich Klaasen kept the scoreboard ticking as wickets tumbled at the other end to 91/4. Jadeja bagged his third wicket of the match as he dismissed Mayank Agarwal for 2 in the 14th over of the game.
Klaasen showed some resistance and kept piling runs while Marco Jansen played an anchor role. The resistance from the Proteas batter, however, finally ended at the hands of Matheesha Pathirana. After troubling Klaasen with a sequence of intelligent deliveries, Pathirana finally outfoxed the troublesome batter and had him caught at cover.
Washington Sundar then came out to bat. However, some sensible batting by Sundar and Marco Jansen in the last two overs ensured that their team post a respectable total of 134/7 on board.

IPL 2023: KL Rahul Registers Unwanted Batting Record In Loss Against GT
India and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batter KL Rahul registered an unwanted record to his name on Saturday in the seven-run loss to defending champions Gujarat Titans in Lucknow. He played the third-slowest knock in IPL history, by a batter who has played atleast 60 balls in his innings. In the match, KL scored 68 off 61 balls. His knock consisted of eight boundaries. His runs came at a strike rate of 111.48. His knock is the third slowest in IPL history, behind JP Duminy, who played an inning of 59 (63) with a strike rate of 93.65 against Punjab Kings in 2009 while playing for Mumbai Indians (MI). Following him is Aaron Finch, who scored 68 (62) with a strike rate of 109.68 for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Mumbai Indians in 2014.
Though KL is the fourth-highest run-scorer in IPL this season, his strike rate is a concern. In seven matches, he has scored 262 runs at an average of 37.42 with two half-centuries and the best score of 74. His strike rate is 113.91 in IPL 2023 so far.
Coming to the match, GT put on a respectable total of 135/6 in their 20 overs after opting to bat first. Knocks from Wriddhiman Saha (47 in 37 balls with six fours) and skipper Hardik Pandya (66 in 50 balls with two fours and four sixes) helped their side reach a modest total.
Krunal Pandya was the leading bowler for LSG, with a spell of 2/16 in four overs. Marcus Stoinis took 2/20 in his three overs. Naveen-ul and Amit took a wicket each.
In the chase of 136 runs, Kyle Mayers (24) and KL were taking the side in the right direction with a 55-run opening stand. However, LSG batters lost their path and wickets in the final five overs, failing to get their 30 runs in these overs. With four wickets falling in the final over on four successive balls, including two run-outs, LSG ended at 128/7 in their 20 overs, seven runs short of the target.
Noor Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers for GT in their seven-run win, taking 2/18 in his four overs. Mohit Sharma took 2/17 in his three overs. Rashid Khan also got one wicket.
Mohit Sharma was given the 'Man of the Match' for holding his nerves to deliver an incredible final over.
With this win, GT is in the fourth position in the points table with four wins and two losses and a total of eight points. LSG is at the second spot with four wins and three losses and a total of eight points.

Updated IPL Points Table, Orange, Purple Cap List After CSK vs SRH Match
Chennai Super Kings secured their 4th win in the first 6 matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets. While Ravindra Jadeja led the wicket-taking charts for CSK, bagging 3 wickets for 22 runs in the match, Devon Conway scored another half-century to strengthen his case for the Orange Cap. With the win, Chennai remained at the third spot in the points table, behind leaders Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants on the basis of a slightly inferior Net Run Rate.
As the IPL Season 16 standings go, RR are still top with 8 points to their name and a positive NRR of +1.043, followed by LSG and CSK who also have 8 points each to their name. Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bangalore complete the top 5 with 6 points each in their kitty.
When it comes to the Orange Cap tally, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis continues to lead the list with 343 runs in 6 matches to his name. He is followed by Delhi Capitals' David Warner and RCB's Virat Kohli. Devon Conway comes in next at the No. 4 spot while Jos Buttler completes the top 5. CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad slots in at No. 6.

LSG's Mark Wood comes in next with 11 scalps in 4 matches. Yuzvendra Chahal of Rajasthan Royals and Rashid Khan of Gujarat Titans also have 11 wickets each to their name. Fellow GT pacer Mohammed Shami takes the No 5 spot with 10 wickets in 5 matches.
CSK's Tushar Deshpande and Ravindra Jadeja have also been productive with the ball this season. They find themselves at No. 6 and No 7 spots.

MS Dhoni Shatters Quinton de Kock's T20 Record To Claim Stunning Feat
One of the finest cricketers to ever play the Gentleman's Game, MS Dhoni continues to break records even at the age of 41. Up against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match on Friday, Dhoni smashed T20 cricket 'world record' as he went on to become the wicket-keeper with the most number of catches in the shortest format of the game. It was Quinton de Kock who earlier held the record but he was surpassed by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper in the list.
Dhoni and De Kock were tied at the No. 1 spot before the match started, with both taking a total of 207 catches in T20 cricket. After Dhoni grabbed the catch of Aiden Markram on the bowling of Maheesh Theekshana in the match, he went past De Kock to make the numero uno spot solely his own.
Dhoni isn't the only Indian in the top 5. Royal Challengers Bangalore wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik is only three catches behind Dhoni in the list.
Wicketkeepers with most catches in Men's T20 cricket:
- 208 - MS Dhoni
- 207 - Quinton de Kock
- 205 - Dinesh Karthik
- 172 - Kamran Akmal
- 150 - Denesh Ramdin
In the match against the Sunrisers, Dhoni also produced a stumping effort and a run-out. In total, the 41-year-old veteran of the game was directly involved in three different dismissals in the game.
The Super Kings produced a brilliant effort with the ball, limiting the SunRisers to just 134/7 in 20 overs. Ravindra Jadeja was the superstar with the ball for the 4-time champions, bagging three wickets for 22 runs in the match.

IPL 2023: Warner, Bowlers Shine As DC Beat KKR For First Win Of Season
Skipper David Warner found his perfect hitting arc after Ishant Sharma rolled back the years but even then Delhi Capitals stuttered badly in a modest chase before beating Kolkata Knight Riders by four wickets on Thursday to stay afloat in this edition of the IPL. With their backs to the wall after five defeats on the trot, the DC bowling line-up collectively came to the party as KKR managed only 127 on a spicy deck which aided both pacers and spinners alike. Warner, DC's best batter this season, was struggling with his strike-rate in earlier games but on Thursday, he smashed 57 off 41 with the target being reached with four balls to spare.
The DC batting, save Warner looked wobbly once again but a below-par score perhaps saved the day for the home team as the ball started gripping in the second half of the chase making it difficult for strokeplay. Axar Patel (19 not out off 22 balls) despite a groin strain managed to take his team past the finishing line.
DC's victory was about two veterans winning the Powerplay contest for their team.
The 34-year-old Ishant (2/19 in 4 overs), who is well past his prime, got his first opportunity and used his oodles of experience to peg back KKR inside the 'Bowling Powerplay'.
The 36-year-old Warner then showed his destructive avatar hitting as many as 10 boundaries in the 'Batting Powerplay' to kill the contest and earn his team's first win of the competition.
The manner in which he swept, the two KKR spinners Sunil Narine and Anukul Roy hardly had any answers. In all, he hit 11 boundaries.
The win doesn't alter DC's standing in the points table as they remain last but the victory does give them hope for a turnaround.
Once Warner won a good toss and opted to field, Ishant, playing his first IPL match in over two seasons, was bang on target with 13 dot balls and hitting those immaculate three-quarter lengths, just like yesterday.
In rhythm, he still hits 140 clicks but once he was done with his four overs, he literally collapsed in the dug-out chair as Prithvi Shaw came in as 'Impact Player'.
His India days are well over and Ishant certainly would like to remain an 'IPL to IPL' player till his body allows him to take rigours of top flight cricket.
Mukesh Kumar (1/34 in 4 overs) also bowled well in the Powerplay while Axar (2/13 in 3 overs), who hasn't enjoyed favourable match-ups against left-handers, removed the dangerous Rinku Singh as KKR lost wickets in clumps.
If Ishant, Mukesh and Axar were brilliant in the front 10, Kuldeep Yadav (2/15 in 3 overs), who got Jason Roy (43 off 39 balls), was brilliant as he created doubts in the minds of the batters by varying his pace.
The pitch had a liberal tinge of green and Anrich Nortje (2/20 in 4 overs) bowled an ideal Test match length and the grass covering helped in a bit of deviation as in-form Venkatesh Iyer just managed to dangle his bat and the ball flew to Mitchell Marsh standing at first slip.
It was undoubtedly the ball of the innings but credit goes to Ishant as he didn't let Roy get away with a good start.
The bit of moisture after a delayed start due to steady drizzle had also freshened up the track and the bit of extra bounce found the batters in a bit of a problem.
Mukesh got rid of Litton Das, who miscued a pull, and the ball that Ishant bowled to dismiss Nitish Rana reared up and he couldn't check his lofted shot.
However, the wicket that completely changed the course was Rinku's slog sweep and the ball bounced tad extra to take the top edge and flew at a comfortable height for Lalit Yadav to catch it at deep square leg.
Once Rinku was gone, KKR batting unit seemed like losing the battle in its head as Andre Russell (38 not out off 31 balls), despite hitting four sixes, couldn't do enough to get his team to a par-score which was surpassed easily.

Points Table "Can't Define Team": Kohli After Win As RCB Stand-in Captain
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) stand-in skipper Virat Kohli said that the target batters put on the board was enough and there was no need to take the game till the end against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium on Thursday. RCB won the match against PBKS by 24 runs. RCB opener Faf du Plessis's 84 off 56 balls and Virat Kohli's 59 off 47 helped the team score 174 which PBKS failed to chase, getting all not in 18.2 overs.
In the post-match presentation, Virat said that he did not want the game to go till the end especially after they had dismissed two-thirds of the Punjab team to the pavilion.
"The strategy was to bat deep to have a crack at 190. Told them (the bowlers) that the target was more than enough. Cannot afford to take the game deep, especially when they lost 6-7 wickets," Kohli said in a post-match presentation.
When asked about their team's position in the points table, Virat said that the points table cannot define how good their team is and he also said that he would be concerned about points after playing the 13 or 14 games in the tournament.
"The table can't define your team. It's towards game 13 or 14 we can try and focus on what we need to do," Virat said.
Since Bangalore had gotten a solid start in the start, there was a feeling that they were 20-25 run short. However, in the second innings, the total seemed unachievable.
Siraj took a total of four wickets whereas Wanindu Hasaranga claimed two and Harshal Patel and Wayne Parnell scalped one wicket each.
"Faf batted really well on that pitch. His innings ensured we had that 20-30 extra at the end. The pitch was very rough underneath, there was not enough water there I guess. There were hardly any sixes hit off the back foot against the spinners," the RCB captain continued.
"The batting lineups are deeper, but we also have options in our bowling. At the halfway stage, the talk was to take the game to the opposition and you kind of break the game open when you pick up 4 wickets in the powerplay," Virat concluded.

"I Am Of No Use With The Bat": Chahal Reveals RR Tactic That Worked In IPL
India and Rajasthan Royals spinner Yuzvendra Chahal claimed on Tuesday that the new rule of impact substitute has worked well for last year's Indian Premier League finalists Rajasthan Royals, who are at the top of the points table with four wins in first five matches. While none of the three Rajasthan Royals' bowlers — Adam Zampa (1/43 against Chennai Super Kings), Murugan Ashwin (0/11 against Delhi Capitals) and Navdeep Saini (0/34 against Sunrisers Hyderabad) — have been able to make an impact as substitutes, it is their batters who have played crucial knocks.
Dhruv Jurel's 32 not out off 15 balls against Punjab Kings almost won the game for RR — who lost by five runs — in Guwahati, whereas Devdutt Padikkal scored a vital 26 against Gujarat Titans to help RR record their first win over the IPL 2022 champions in four meetings.
"It has worked in our favour given the way Dhruv (Jurel) and Dev (Devdutt Padikkal) have batted. It is a plus point because I am of no use with the bat. It helps when you are chasing a big total and an extra batter gets added, which is a plus point," Chahal, who has been substituted out twice in five matches, told the media ahead of RR's contest against Lucknow Super Giants.
RR played their first two 'home' games at Guwahati and the contest on Wednesday night will be their first at the home ground in Sawai Mansingh Stadium here.
"It is a bigger ground here so as a spinner I am happy," Chahal said.
The ace Indian spinner said he is enjoying the challenge of bowling in tandem with senior Ravichandran Ashwin and Australia's Zampa.
"The management decides as per situation (on playing them together). We have a good bonding between us, having played the last two games together," he said.
"My main motive this year is to win the trophy, not just the Purple Cap," said Chahal, who has claimed 11 wickets in five matches so far, having finished as the highest wicket-taker last IPL with 27 scalps.
